Experience the Hawaiian culture and practice yoga in a natural environment, surrounded by nature! Yoga Alliance certified, this yoga teacher training will be guided by Troy McPeak and will not limit you to one style of teaching or practice. The core philosophy of Peak Beings is to create a fun, safe, and creative space for future teachers to develop and deepen their yoga teaching.
Kalani Oceanside Retreat offers accommodations to suit diverse preferences and budgets. Their rustic accommodations are simple, outside-in spaces that offer comfort and tranquility. Angular octagonal or pentagonal structures are a contrast to box-based architecture and invite a departure from routine.
Their accommodations are not equipped with heating or air-conditioning, as Kalani is situated on the east coast of Hawaii Island, benefiting from the persistent east-to-west Pacific trade wind flow. Windows in the accommodations are screened, maximizing airflow and views, and there are no phones or televisions in the rooms.
The bungalows are located on Kalani property and are free standing structures that have high, slanted ceilings and tall screened windows. Bungalows house up to two guests and each room contains one queen bed and one twin bed, private bath, mini fridge and offer views of the jungle or pastures. Rooms are approximately 225 square feet and are less than a 5 minute walk to the training practice space. Roommates will be assigned if you are coming by yourself.
The lodge rooms are located on Kalani property and are housed in three two-level lodges or Hales (pronounced Ha'-lay, Hawaiian for "house") and have several rooms on each floor with access to common areas on both levels. The lodges are on the central lawn and are very close to the Dining Lanai and a 5 minute walk to the training practice space.
Triple, double, and single occupancy rooms are available. Rooms are approximately 200 square feet with twin, queen, or king beds, shared or private bath, fan, and a garden view. The private bathrooms have 1 bathroom right in the room and the shared bathrooms have the bathrooms outside of the room, down the hallway. Roommates will be assigned if you are coming by yourself and registering for any of the multiple occupancy accommodations.
Peak Beings tackles the learning process using many different approaches, such as communicative, contemplative, and experiential. They welcome students who are looking to teach yoga or those who are just looking to deepen their practice. In addition to learning to guide a yoga class, the training covers many other topics, including yogic philosophy, history, meditation, and chanting.
The yoga teacher training will take place at the beautiful Kalani Oceanside Retreat on the Big Island of Hawaii. This private and secluded resort is located near the town of Pahoa and is just a short walk to the nearby black sand beach.
Three delicious meals per day are served on Kalani's open-air lanai (veranda) and are included in the cost of the training. Kalani celebrates the abundance of Hawaii by serving local tropical fruits and vegetables and fresh caught fish. Seafood is often served at dinner (chicken and beef are served occasionally), and vegetarians are well cared for.
Any special dietary requirements must be confirmed with your booking through Kalani lodge as they must order your food in advance. All food is prepared and served with the spirit of Aloha.
Kalani cuisine encompasses a variety of styles including Thai, India, and Italian, and their chefs have extensive training and a common interest in creating healthful and delicious meals. A sample menu of the meals at Kalani is provided below. Tea, water, and coffee are available in the restaurant area throughout the day. There are also sports and other health drinks available for sale in the restaurant.
Most importantly, their chefs firmly believe that the care and love invested in the cuisine is transmitted to the diner, and everything is prepared with aloha.
Let nature be your mirror as you discover Hawaii's spectacular interplay of elements: lava fire, pristine waters, abundant gardens, cultural heritage sites, tall mountains, and cool, scented tropical breezes.
Kalani recommends many established and experienced tour companies to showcase a variety of Hawaii Island's natural attractions. You can choose from a variety of tours including:

Please book your flight to arrive at Hilo Airport (ITO). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.
There is a Hele-On county bus that leaves from downtown Hilo. This is a slow but inexpensive (2 USD each way) option that comes right to Kalani if you can coordinate your arrival schedule with the bus schedule. You will have to take a taxi from the airport to the bus stop (15 USD). Please plan for enough time to retrieve your bags from baggage claim and to get a taxi outside and take the 10 to 15-minute taxi ride to the nearest bus stop (Prince Kuhio Plaza - Ohuohu Street).
The bus will be like an airport shuttle vehicle and will have the word "Kalapana" highlighted above the windshield. The Hele-On bus drops off at Kalani three times per day, Monday through Friday, and two times per day on Saturday. Note that there is no bus on Sunday. Also, note that the Saturday schedule is different than the Monday through Friday schedule per the Hele-On website.
You can check out the bus schedule on the Hele-On Bus website and look at the Pahoa/Pohoiki - Hilo Routes. When looking at the schedule, Kalani is located between Pohoiki and Sea View Estates. Please make sure to contact the bus company directly to see if there are any local holidays on your arrival day and/or if the bus schedule will be impacted for any other reason.
