4 Days Writing and Yoga Retreat in Massachusetts, USA

  • Stump Sprouts, Massachusetts, USA

Writing Yoga Retreats USA

At the heart of this retreat is the joining of creative writing, hatha yoga, and meditation. Patricia Lee Lewis and Charles MacInerney have combined their energies for 19 years to offer this powerful path to the creative self. The yoga, led by Charles, creates in you a sense of physical well-being, while bringing you back to your body and your senses. Patricia leads the writing circles in a way designed to help you bypass your inner critic and go directly to images, feelings or memories to the places steeped in story and natural language. Because this is also the time to generate new writing, rather than to critique what you have already prepared, you will be encouraged to write freely to the extent possible, without editing.

Writing and yoga vacations USA by Patchwork Farm

Each Yoga class ends with a deep guided relaxation which calms your mind and helps it to relax into a creative Alpha brainwave pattern. Gathering in small, intimate groups, you will also be invited to read what you have written. Group members respond only with what is strong in the piece, what they remember, what is vivid. The process is highly encouraging and supportive to the natural voice and to you as a writer, whether you are beginning again after years away; an experienced writer in need of a jump start; or you are in the middle of a project and are looking for new ideas and time dedicated to writing.

"It was one of the few experiences that I got more than what I bargained for in more ways than one."

  • Review by Diane N. from United States

"The Isle of Cumbrae retreat was absolutely the only time, in my adult life, when I have gained inspiration to write and the encouragement to let the pen stroke the page without inhibition. There is nothing to compare to flying under Patricia’s wing and feeling safe enough to reach my writing potential."

"I expected a lot from my first ramble across the pond but the retreat exceeded my expectations and then some. It was indeed magical and was so lucky to be a part of it."

  • Review by David M. from Scotland

"Patricia created a truly supportive and creative sacred space within which I could continue my search for self-expression. I was inspired and aided by the care and committment that they both generously provided in helping me to find a more authentic ‘voice’ and in such a wonderful setting. Their guided meditations ‘connected’ me with both the energy of this island and my own inner promptings."

  • Review by Nancy S. from United States

"I have come to see the craft of a writing life as a form of meditation – and greatly important in my life. Thanks for the opportunity of connecting to my writing in the context of a respectful group."

  • Review by April from United States

"I learned more at this retreat about the surrendering nature of yoga than I had in three years of practice. I never knew I had so much quality writing inside me. I loved the Amherst Writers method of feedback. It makes you want to write!"
