The retreat has six cabinas (cabin-like buildings), set apart from one another, and perched on the mountainside along winding pathways, offering breathtaking views of the countryside and the Pacific Ocean. They are Costa Rican wood framed construction with stone or tile floors, a porch, hammock, tile bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower with hot water, and adorned with handmade artwork. With the environment in mind, each cabina has a powerful ceiling fan and windows on both sides for cross ventilation.

You will be taught techniques and practices that will enrich your knowledge to grow on your path of teaching yoga. The minimum requirement is to have had a committed practice of yoga for one year, and a desire to deepen your practice. It is not necessary that you have the desire to teach others, although that is what you will be qualified and certified to do at the completion of the training. Marys approach to the science and art of yoga is grounded in teachings that have been around for thousands of years.

You will learn the basic, and some of the advanced, asanas and how to teach them safely and effectively to a wide range of students. You will also practice and learn how to incorporate the other important limbs of yoga: pranayama, meditation, as well as bandhas, mudras, and kriyas. You will learn to use these yogic tools to find the greatest guru of all: your inner one. Through the Panacea yoga teacher training program, you will find the voice of your authentic inner teacher, allowing you to then share your knowledge in meaningful ways out in the world.


Acquire skill in the use of props and modifying poses

Develop a personal plan for how you will move forward after the training

Discuss the basic history and philosophy of yoga, including the Hatha yoga Pradipika and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and understanding their relevance to teaching yoga classes

Examine the ethics of teaching yoga, and working to develop your own ethical code

Explore class sequencing

Learn how to use verbal cueing, demonstration, and adjustments to lead students into poses

Practice daily: asana, pranayama, meditation, mantras, bandhas, mudras, kriyas

Practice teaching and receive constructive feedback

Study anatomy and physiology, along with physical and energetic alignment as applied to the practice of yoga

At Panacea de la Montaa, you will enjoy deliciously healthy vegetarian cuisine prepared by chef and owner Debbie Marcos, or directly supervised by her. The food is as local and fresh as possible, farm to table. With Costa Ricas climate, that means plenty of fruits and vegetables that are picked when ripe so the taste is vibrant. Menus are based on what is in season, fresh, and nutritious - chosen and prepared to support and deeply nourish you in your intensive study and yoga practice. All meals and snacks are served in the open-air dining room by the pool, with spectacular vistas of the lush Costa Rica mountain ranges and the peaceful valley below.

In the area, you can go surfing, stand up paddlebroading, kayaking, sunset tours on a catamaran, biking, diving, estuary and nature tours snorkeling. Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Liberia International Airport, also known as the Daniel Oduber International Airport. The airport is a 45-minute drive from Tamarindo.
