Paje by Night is located in Paje, along the south-east coast of Zanzibar. It is located in a very verdant plot just 100 meters away from the beach. A minute's walk through an alley of fine white sand will lead you there and it’s a great beach with stunning turquoise, emerald, and aquamarine colors.
While you have white sand, palm trees, and many traditional building techniques, Paje by Night also wanted their resort to be unlike any other hotel in Zanzibar. A place with its own personality and its unique atmosphere, a starting point for all your adventures on the island, and a spot where to chill-out and regain your time. At their Shala deck, shadowed by flamboyant trees and whispering coconut palms, you will practice Ashatanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vinyasa Folow.
Paje by Night wishes you to know that the program is not a strict yoga retreat, their intention is to offer you the possibility to practice yoga, at any level, followed by a professional teacher, while being on holiday on a tropical island. You can do yoga, sunbath, snorkel, swim, walk on the beach, hang out in a hammock between classes, or you might combine your yoga lessons with kitesurfing choosing between their beginners course or one-on-one clinic lesson to enhance your skills and still there is time to go on excursions, take a walk into the Jozani tropical forest, visit a spice farm, swim with dolphins, explore Stone Town - certainly one of the most important historical places in eastern Africa.
The atmosphere is relaxed, not as intense as at a yoga retreat, and it is a great place to meet other like-minded people. About 50% of the guests are solo travelers, while the remainder are families and couples. On food, they are flexible, from a la carte menu you can choose a variety of dishes vegetarian and not. They also offer wines, beers, coffee, and tea. Whatever food you will choose, they cook it in the most wealthy way. Responsibly, they do not use palm oil. In their kitchen, you will only find extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil. Welcome!
This yoga holiday consists of 10 sessions typically one morning and one afternoon drop in led yoga classes. The morning class lasts 90 min and focuses on Ashtanga Vinyassa Yoga. The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga includes all fitness components in one workout. It strengthens the body from its natural state through balanced and harmonious work. In Ashtanga Vinyasa the breath is deep, long and active (Ujjayi Pranayama) resulting in increased range of movement, muscle extension and flexibility of the joints. In every morning class we are focusing on the 4 elements: Banda (contract), Pranayama (breath), Vinyasa (flow), Drishti (focus).
The afternoon class lasts 75 minutes. Each lesson is based on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga flow with adaptations and will emphases on specific postures in order to work on hip opening, backbends and balance.
Classes will take place on the open air terrace at the beachfront or at their Shala deck, shadowed by flamboyant trees, and whispering coconut palms overlooking the lush garden of Paje by Night.
There are no lessons on Sunday.
Everyone can practice yoga. Yoga practices every part of the body: strengthening the muscles, joints, spine and entire skeletal system. The Asanas also benefit the internal organs, glands and nerves. They contribute to the health of the entire system by releasing physical and mental stress and by doing so it energizes the body and calm the mind. The philosophy of yoga is not in dispute with any religion or belief and every person can engage with it.
You can spend the rest of the day sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, walking on the beach, hanging out in a hammock between classes or combine your yoga lessons with kitesurfing, diving, eco-biking. If you are expert already, you can just take advantage of the facilities offered at Paje by Kite, their kite center on the beach front. Should you need, they offer rentals too. If you are a beginner you can choose between their beginner course or the one-on-one clinic lesson to enhance your skills. %And still, there is time to go on excursions and explore the island visiting the Jozani tropical forest or a spice farm, swimming with dolphins or exploring Stone Town, certainly one of the most important historical places in eastern Africa.
Dikla is a certified yoga teacher with over 15 years experience in teaching. Her classes embrace all aspects of yoga, including the yoga philosophy. She started practicing in India in 2003, and since then, she never stopped to teach and study yoga. She teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa, Ashtanga-Vinyasa flow, and yoga therapy. She studied and practiced with Swami Omesh-Yogi, Gilad and Miri Harovi, Dr. Gil Solverg, James A Marks, David Swenson, Danny Paradise, John Scott, Maty Ezrati, Richard Freeman, Chuck Miller, Laruga Glaser, and many more.
The menu a la carte of our Italian restaurant offers a variety of dishes to chose from, most notably organic breakfasts, fresh home made pasta, fish and seafood responsibly fished from the ocean, healthy salads, traditional soups and real Italian wood-fired pizzas. All ingredients are freshly outsourced locally with the exception of those which are not available in Tanzania such as Italian cheese and Italian cured meats.
