If you are looking for a yoga retreat, Manali is a great option for yoga, meditation, asana, and hiking. You will stay in a family house, where you will be served homemade cooked food, and enjoy village life in the Himalayas. You will practice yoga, meditation, and pranayama: regular practice of yoga and meditation will help you to live a healthy and happy life. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi, everyone is welcome.
The Amar Family House is a homestay and yoga shala located in the center of Vashisht, a lively village in the Kullu-Manali Valley nicknamed the Valley of Gods. It is a 2-minute walk away from the hot springs, temples, local shops, and rooftop cafés.
There are plenty of walking paths that lead to picturesque waterfalls, abundant apple orchards, and other surrounding villages. The house offers double rooms with attached bathrooms. Most rooms offer scenic views of the mountains and the rushing waters of the mighty Beas River can be heard below.
The bedrooms and balconies offer scenic views of the mountain, Manali Valley, and the river, perfect for watching the sunset, meditating, or reading. The twin beds can be combined to form one single bed.
The bathroom comes equipped with a shower and warm water. Bottled water is not included in the rooms, but you can ask the staff to purchase water if needed. Laundry service is also available upon request, perfect for weary travelers wanting some clean clothes.
The yoga studio is attached to the homestay: the newly built yoga shala offers the best environment to practice yoga and meditative exercises at any time of the day. Windows encompass the studio space creating a warm environment with natural light.
The following program is an example of what your days will look like:
Open Lotus Yoga will welcome you in Manali and organize your transfer to the family house in Vashisht. You will have time to explore your new environment, and afterwards you’ll be introduced to your yoga and meditation teacher. You will attend a Gentle yoga class at 16:00 (1.5 hours) and a meditation session at 18:30, followed by dinner.
Yoga and pranayama will start at 07:00 and end at 08:30. After a well-deserved breakfast, you will be able to spend your day as you please. After breakfast, you will have the option of going on a guided trek to Jogini Falls.
These beautiful waterfalls are about an hour along the wall of the valley from Vashisht. These falls descend from high above and run into the Beas River below. Afterwards, you will have lunch, free time, yoga and meditation, dinner, and a night in the family house.
After the 07:00 yoga, pranayama, and asana class, and breakfast, you will visit the villages of Goshal, Old Manali, and the beautiful Hadimba Temple. The Hadimba Temple is about one kilometer from Manali, very old, and surrounded by the tall cedar pine trees on the edge of Dhungri village.
According to legends, Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, fell in love with an aboriginal woman named Hadimba (the sister of the local chief by the name of Hadimba) and married her. In your own time, you will be able to take an auto-rickshaw back to Vashisht, to attend the 16:30 yoga and meditation class.
You will start the day with yoga, pranayama, and asana practice, followed by a late breakfast, time to relax, and check out before 12:00.
Please note that on excursion days, the schedule will change. You will be informed of such changes the day before.
Yogi Ganesh learned yoga from his father and other yoga teachers from different places and gurus in Vashisht and Rishikesh. He is an expert in meditation techniques and the art of pranayama. He is also a good mountain trekking guide. He has done many high-altitude treks in Manali and Ladakh. He teaches yoga in the different parts of the Himalayas and high mountain places, as well as during camping and trekking trips.
This program will take place in the village of Vashisht which is in the town of Manali in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India.
The retreat will take place in a small village called Vashisht, in Himachal Pradesh, India. Vashisht is located 3 kilometers northeast of Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh and is known for its two beautiful temples (Rama and Shiva temples), natural hot spring baths located 200 yards from the homestay, and diverse shops and restaurants.
