During the retreat, you will be staying at Lotus Shores. The Lotus Shores is a commune for the yogi, surfer, or conscious adventurer traveling to Siargao. Immerse in a way of life oriented towards unity, inspired the tradition of the locals, the philosophy of yoga, and the effortlessness of meditation in the ocean.
The place gives as much importance to the moments between the practice of yoga, surfing, and meals by finding in them equal opportunities to grow in contentment and non-attachment. The atmosphere of the retreat highlights the joy of stillness and the wealth in emptiness or silence.
Because of the Zen-like treatment and the use of indigenous building materials, the retreat neatly fits in the jungle where you will often find wild birds, water dragons, butterflies, and other beautiful creatures at play.
The overall atmosphere encourages deep, unfiltered listening, absolute presence, trust in yourself and in life, qualities that allow you to make the most of your vacation, creating the conditions in the mind and body that promote healing, learning, and creativity. There are four different lodging options: dorm room to be shared with three people, single room, double room, and a private villa, which offers a queen bed with the option to have extra beds for four people.
The word Vinyasa can be translated as “arranging something in a special way,”. In this class, students coordinate movement with breath to flow from one pose to the next. Ashtanga, Baptiste yoga, Jivamukti, Power yoga, and Prana flow could all be considered Vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa yoga is not about exercise. It is a very subtle, beautiful, and introspective practice, and exercise can be a side benefit. Yoga is about getting to know yourself better and learning how to love yourself.

There will also be several workshops to help you nourish your mind. Once Upon A Yoga have carefully curated workshops to delve deeper and to learn how to help you implement new healthy habits into life when you go back home. The workshops will focus on pranayama, meditation, mindfulness, manifestation, self-healing, home practice, and communication.
Yin yoga is a slower, quieter practice of staying for an extended period in passive postures, while softening the muscles around a specific area of the body. As you soften the muscles in the specific area, the joints, ligaments, and deep connective tissues will benefit from a healthy amount of stress, enabling them to open and release tension. Over time, this allows greater freedom and ease to develop in movement.
Yin Yoga is an effective way of self-healing as it helps the release of previously unresolved emotions held and stored in the body. Giving emotions room to breathe allows them to be felt and processed, while teaching you how to let go. The Yin yoga practice will help you to develop compassion for yourself and for others by seeing life as it really is. This will lead you towards self-acceptance, a path in which you treat all sentient beings with loving kindness which flows from a peaceful place within.

Sarah brings a depth of knowledge and skill from experience and trainings in Dubai, India, Thailand, Philippines, and Bali. She brings a gentle calmness to her classes while guiding the awareness inwards with the breath and the sensations of the body. Sarah is especially interested in teaching beginners and has a strong focus on alignment and what that means in your body. She takes out the fear and awkwardness and will leave you feeling calm and confident. Her Vinyasa classes are a balance between strength and ease with a focus on breath connection and mindfulness with each movement.
The retreat will take place in Siargao Island, Philippines. Siargao Island is the island paradise that people picture when they think the words “island paradise”. Sparkling turquoise waters that are so saturated with color is hard to believe they exist. Soft white sand that hides exotic seashells, an abundance of gently swaying palm trees that offer shade and fresh coconut juice, and the beauty of the island are breathtaking.
There are also plenty of natural features that lend themselves to outdoor activities such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding, rock jumping, cave exploring, and more. In addition to that, Siargao Island has a vibrant community of locals and foreigners that visitors are immediately welcomed into. The retreat place is located 150 meters from the beach and 300 meters from the nearest surf break.
During the retreat, you will be served three daily healthy, locally sourced meals a day. There are plenty of options for you to buy healthy snacks and smoothies throughout the day. For the majority of your meals, it will be a beautifully curated vegan menu. There is a great variety of options and you won't even realize you are eating healthy vegan food.
For the island hopping and lagoon trip, the lunch menu will be fresh caught seasonal fish, cooked over the coals by the local island people and served with rice, a special local sauce, and a selection of fresh mango and fruits.
Please book your flight to arrive at Sayak Airport (IAO). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Once Upon A Yoga will pick you up from the airport.
