During this retreat, you will stay in Omassim Guesthouse. They have two houses to offer to all surfers. The guest house is an oasis of bright, homely accommodation located in a quiet and lovely residential area in the small village Palhais, Ericeira with an open view over the surrounding green hills. Omassim Guesthouse can accommodate 20 guests with double, triple, and quintuple rooms including one bunk bed with shared bathroom. The dining and living rooms are the perfect meeting point to take breakfast, read a book, or on cold days enjoy the warmth by the fireplace. Relax and enjoy the peaceful nature, soak up the sun next to the swimming pool in its lovely garden, or feast on the delicious vegetarian menu. Ericeira's charming Fisher town is about four kilometers south walking distance away, and the next beach (Ribeira D’Ilhas) is reachable in about 20 minutes walk in a beautiful nature reserve with stunning, breathtaking views.

Program

Ericeira Surf Progress provides surf classes for different levels in separated groups. The surf courses are specifically designed for your level of surfing, combining theory and practice in the most effective way. As a complete beginner, you will learn how to surf with them from the start. Well-experienced surfers will get the chance to perfect their surfing techniques. Riding a wave requires focus, a clear mind, and a strong, lean body. That's why they give you the opportunity to join additional yoga classes. If you can find your focus and clear your mind through yoga, you will progress more in your surfing skills.

The program starts with a welcome dinner on Sunday. This weekly course will include five days of surf classes from Monday to Friday. You can join as much surfing lessons as you want (up to two lessons per day) approximately 22 hours per week including wetsuit, board, transport, and insurance. Surf material is included in the price. There is a maximum of twelve students per course. They will be accompanied by minimum two qualified surf teachers. The surf classes are made out of theory and practice. With the manual and personal approach, photo and video coaching your progress are guaranteed. Transport from a meeting point to the beach is also provided. After being surfed out, you will have a nice yoga session to end your wonderful day. After a few days of surfing, get some relaxing massage to get back in the water.

For intermediate surfers who want to take their surfing to the next level, Ericeira Surf Progress offers surfing progress course which will suit you well. It is the goal of four sessions to experience four different spots and to gain more knowledge about these world-class waves. This course has between two and six participants. Each class lasts for approximately three hours.

IMPORTANT NOTE: surfing is entirely dependent on the weather and sea conditions, Progress Surf School does their best to guarantee the hours of surfing experience. When the conditions do not allow you to surf at Ericeira beaches and you need to go further north or south, they ask for a small donation (approximately 5 EUR per person) to support the extra costs of transportation.

Yoga classes will take place on Monday to Friday. You can choose between five morning Vinyasa Flow yoga classes and fice evening Restorative, Soft Flow or Yin Yoga classes. All classes are 75 minutes long.

Retreat location

This surf and yoga retreat will take place in Omassim Guesthouse, Rua das Taipas, 2640 068, Ericeira, Palhais, Portugal. Ericeira has a beautiful rocky coastline with steep cliffs and lovely sandy beaches. There are many surf spots and the waves are incredible. The surf spots of Ericeira are known by surfers from all over the world and it has been the stage of many world and national competitions. Ericeira has been dedicated as a World Surfing Reserve in 2011. It is the first surf spot in Europe and the second place in the world to receive such nomination. The habitants of Ericeira are friendly people and they warmly receive tourists with their traditional parties, little bars, and local shops. If you like dancing, you should go to Ouriços: the oldest dance club in Portugal. Ericeira offers everything that your heart desires!

How to get there

Arrival by bus

Finding your own way from Lisbon Airport (LIS) to the venue is possible by taking the Metro to Campo Grande where there is a bus that runs to Ericeira. The bus journey will take about 45 to 90 minutes depending on the type of bus. The bus ride will cost you less than 7 EUR. Once you arrive in Ericeira, Progress Surf School can pick you up from the bus station which is a 5-minute drive to the guesthouse. The cost of transport is 6 EUR.
