Located in the northwest of Koh Phangan, Thailand, The Yoga Retreat is nestled in the jungle just ten minutes away from Haad Salad beach and provides a nurturing environment to develop your practice and cultivate a better life. They believe in self-healing and that students are their own best teachers. Their aim is to provide you the tools to deepen your personal awareness.
Available only for students on courses or retreats, there are six rooms that offer an encouragement towards the simplicity of living in the midst of natural surroundings. Open your windows to the tropical weather of southern Thailand or enjoy the cool breeze from a fan. There are en-suite private rooms.
Yoga classes at the retreat are combination of familiar postures (asana), as well as more challenging poses, with adjustments and variations given to students. Emphasis is always placed on the breath, which brings awareness to the body and mind simultaneously. The result is that the body becomes energized, the mind becomes centered, and awareness is increased. The aim is to increase vitality at the same time as promoting a sense of well-being.

Ashtanga yoga is a traditional method of practice inspired by T. Krishnamacharya and Pattabhi jois from Mysore, India. It is a style of yoga that is physically demanding due to the constant movement from one pose to the next (Vinyasa) practiced in its correct sequential order, Ashtanga gradually leads the practitioner to rediscover his or her fullest potential on all levels of human consciousness, physical, psychological, and spiritual. Through this practice of correct breathing (Ujjayi pranayama), postures (asanas), gazing point (driste) and energetic locks (bandas), we gain control of the senses and a deep awareness of ourselves. By maintaining this discipline with regularity and devotion, one acquires steadiness of body and mind.
Mysore style has everyone doing their own set practice The teacher guides you by giving you the next posture only when you are ready. The students are given responsibility for their own practice. You learn the sequence to memory. Your cue to move on to the next posture comes from your breath. The practice becomes a part of you. There is a community everyone is addressed by name and the teacher knows your practice inside and out. This creates an energy, which makes everyone feel connected. You have to challenge yourself, not wait for the teacher to challenge you! It's inspiring. Every morning you witness ordinary people achieve extraordinary things in their practice. The most inspiring part of all is that they all started in the same place and put in a tremendous amount of work to get where they are. Mysore is traditionally practised early morning as prana is highest and all is still.
Born in NZ many moons ago (1955) Bill was Authorized to teach in 2000 by Sri K Pattabhi Jois Level 2 Bills intentions as a teacher are to keep the teaching as authentic as possible. For Bill the attraction to this method is the depth of it. One never stops learning, everyone can do it and can practice it for as long as one can breath. It's a very practical approach to self realisation which strips away the unnecessary by its flexibility to be adapted to the individual using the breath as the binding thread. He move to Stockholm Sweden in 2005 and has been teaching Mysore style there since.

Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Vegetarian Restaurant and Raw Organic Caf serve an assortment of healthy foods, fresh juices, and probiotics. Also, they serve their delicious chai tea and have Friday night Indian buffet by 7:00 p.m. Veggie, vegan and raw options are available to make sure you get all the nurturing your body needs.
There are many other activities that you can do apart from yoga in Koh Phangan. There is kirtan, chanting singing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, elephant rides, a jungle, mountain walking, beach hopping, and waterfalls. And of course there is always a party during the night.

You will be responsible in booking your flight from and to Koh-Samui Airport (USM).
Getting to Koh Phangan is quite straight forward, with regular rail and air links running daily from Bangkok. Whether you are travelling from Malaysia in the south or Bangkok in the north, you should make your way to the town of Surrathani on the mainland and catch any of the numerous boat services from there.
When you arrive on a ferry into Thong Sala, you will have a massive selection of taxis to choose from, each of which is usually accompanied by a young Thai sales person. Choose whichever one you want, and be prepared to pay just over 200 THB for the journey.
The Yoga Retreat-Koh Phangan can arrange your taxi service from Thong sala port if required.
Take a taxi from the boat jetty direct to the retreat, which is situated close to Haad Salad in the North West of the island. Prices will vary but should not cost you more than 300 THB at the very most.
