Surround yourself with nature and beauty while staying in the Lake District. Sunny Brow Farm is nestled in 33 acres of woodland, tarn, limestone beck and pasture land, that are on the doorstep for your enjoyment.

Sunny Brow Farm welcomes guests to stay in their five-star, self-catered, barn conversions. Enjoy your own stylish and well equipped, self catered apartment with views of the Sunny Brow and Lake District countryside. The four fantastic barn conversions offer a fantastic accommodation for couples, or friends, to holiday in the lakes.

Sunny Brow Farm UK Yoga Retreat Program

This is the basic package. The barn cottages, and Sunny Brow itself, ensures your own personal space for relaxation and rest, giving you a perfect base to connect to nature, and yourself.

Throughout your stay, you will also get to enjoy two hours of holistic massage, three hours of yoga, and a chance to experience organic whole food meals with a breakfast on your first morning and two evening meals of your choice.

Allow Sunny Brow's team to work their magic with this perfect package made to rest and rejuvenate. You are free to pick the date that you prefer, entering on Friday and leaving on Monday.


Suzy-Anne Saunders
Suzy is the owner and manager of Sunny Brow Farm Holistic Retreat. Suzy is a professional yoga teacher, Shamanic practitioner, Inner Dance facilitator, holistic therapist and Reiki Master, Macrobiotic and healing food practitioner, and a devoted and blessed mum of three beautiful souls. She came to holistic living and spiritual development in her early twenties, starting her holistic teacher and facilitator training with yoga in 2006, and is currently still adding to her skill set and 'All Nations sweat lodge training. In April 2018 her cook book ‘Conscious Cookery’ was published.

Sunny Brow's cuisine is dedicated to organic whole foods, unprocessed and nutritious, without compromising on taste or culinary beauty. The great taste and simple energy of wholesome ingredients gives you so much more to experience in the cooking and eating.

Suzy, Sunny Brow's chef, has a passion for healthy eating and works using macrobiotic principles and nutritional super-foods. She uses fresh, unprocessed foods, energetically balanced, so the body can get back to, and remain, in balance and good health.

At Sunny Brow, animal produce eating is limited; they mainly eat food from organic plant sources, such as fruit, vegetables, seeds, beans and pulses, and whole grains.

The food is prepared with awareness on cooking styles, combining many varieties, such as steaming, baking, pickling, pressing, stir-frying, and pressure cooking. Refined foods are avoided, especially sugar, that have damaging effects on the body.

Beautiful deserts that are sugar free have a calmer effect on the body, allowing simple enjoyment and relaxation.

Macrobiotic cuisine

100% macrobiotic cuisine using yin and yang and the five elements can be provided. This diet's strength is in the fact that it can be designed for each of your individual needs. Modern macrobiotics can be a great way to either help balance the body after a serious illness, or to simply enjoy a richness and variety of cuisine to sustain daily life.

You can have the opportunity to experience exciting macrobiotic cuisine, or for deeper healing at the start of, or during, a macrobiotic healing diet.

Wholefoods menu


  • Rolled oat porridge with rice syrup or honey homemade granary and seed bread with sugar-free jam or;
  • Sunny Brow organic eggs served with homemade granary toast choose from scrambled, boiled or poached eggs or;
  • Oat and buckwheat breakfast pancakes with seasonal fruit compote served with maple syrup, rice syrup or honey

Evening meal 1

  • Seasonal vegetable and lentil soup with homemade sunflower seed bread or croutons
  • Spelt penne pasta with wild garlic and basil pesto roasted seasonal vegetables (e.g. butternut squash) mixed salad with dressing or;
  • Seasonal vegetables seasonal fruit crumble (refined sugar and dairy free) served with oat cream

Evening meal 2

  • Seasonal vegetable soup with homemade sunflower seed bread or croutons
  • Mediterranean fish stew with fennel served with wholegrain rice and seasonal vegetables
  • Seasonal fruit crumble (refined sugar and dairy free) served with oat cream

Local villages and towns

The nearest village is Hawkshead and the nearest town is Ambleside.

Pubs and places to eat

Within walking distance from Sunny Brow is the well renowned Drunken Duck, Inn and restaurant.

A couple of miles away is Chesters by the River, a top spot for tea and cakes. It is run by the same people from the Drunken Duck, so great quality food is always in store. There is also a superb shop which has excellent gifts for the loved ones back home.

On the farm

You can watch badgers, woodpeckers and other awesome birds, spot deers and squirrels, or take a walk to collect fallen wood for your campfire.

What if it's raining?

The Langdale Hotel and Country Club offers day membership. Enjoy their spa, swimming pool, restaurant, and bar. Maybe if you are feeling adventurous, there is a rock climbing wall in Kendal.

Rufty Tuftys in Ambleside provides indoor play areas for the younger kids and a cafe area for the parents to relax.


There are many local walks which can be started right from Sunny’s door step, including Tarn Hows, Claife Heights, and Latterbarrow.


Additional treatments and therapies are available at extra costs. A varying selection of therapies, massage, reiki, soul readings and healings, hot stones, shiatsu, crystal healing, reflexology, sacred dance, and transformational healing.

Driving directions from the M6

  • Take exit 36 and head northwest towards Kendal and Windermere, at Sizergh the road becomes the A591 but keep driving straight ahead towards Kendal and Windermere.
  • You will pass Kendal and arrive at a large roundabout, take the second exit (straight on) towards Windermere.
  • When you arrive at Windermere, carry on following the A591 to Ambleside.
  • When you arrive on the outskirts on Ambleside (Waterhead), you will come to a junction with traffic lights, turn left here onto the A5059 Borrans Road, you will pass the Waterhead pub, and through a twisting section of roadway.
  • When the road straightens out, take the left hand turning after the rugby club ground (signposted to Coniston and Hawkshead).
  • Follow this road around to the bridge, then turn left going over the bridge. You will now be on the A593.
  • After approximately one mile, take a left hand turn onto the B5286 towards Hawkshead, driving over the Brathay bridge.
  • After approximately 1.5 miles, take a sharp right hand turn, there is a signpost here for The Drunken Duck Inn.
  • Drive up the hill and straight past the Drunken Duck Inn and after 3/4 mile, the driveway to the farm is on the right hand side.

Arrival by bus

From the Windermere train station, you can catch the 505 bus. If you are feeling adventurous, you can ask the driver to drop you at the junction for The Drunken Duck Inn and Sunny Brown Farm, it’s a short two miles walk from there.

Please note, if you choose to use public transport to get there, not only will they pick you up and drop you off in Hawkshead, but they will also pay for your first full days bus pass (worth up to 22 GBP), which will give you unlimited travel within the Central Lakes Bus network.

Arrival by train

The nearest train station is in Windermere. From Windermere’s train station, you can use local transportation to reach Hawkshead Village.

Free of charge transfer from Hawkshead Village is available upon request but you have to call or email at least two weeks prior to your arrival to arrange this. On your departure, they would take you to Hawkshead Village too.
