You will be staying at Slow Villas and Spa. The villa has ten contemporary luxury villas with Balinese concept. Each room offers the same comfort - one or two bedroom villas with terrace, swimming pool, kitchenette and office space, comfortable sunbeds, and lovely coconut garden.

Yoga shala - Slow Spa

Designed by the architect Christian Lechien, the spa at Slow Villas adds a wellness appetite to the villa complex, which is essentially designed for you to recharge and fully relax: three massage rooms, a bath for relaxation and a pilates or yoga studio. The Slow Spa’s architecture is inspired by the round curves of the island, making you think of a bamboo cathedral. The central window adds air and light to the whole ensemble with gentle curves.

The peaceful feeling and the silence are supporting the architecture that’s built around the natural elements, thus recalling Slow’s philosophy. The treatments: massages, facials, treatments for hands and feet, and therapy through movements, respond to their belief at Slow in relation to wellness. For Slow Spa’s signature treatments, Slow Retreats use products that are natural and alive, especially fresh aloe vera cultivated on-site.

The retreat will be led by Michelle and Jess. Michelle and Jess met in 2011 at Tracey Anderson Method Studio where they trained many of New York City and Hollywood’s elite clientele. Their combined expertise in dance, fitness, and yoga are commensurable with industry leaders. Along with this and their passion for holistic wellness and travel, they’ve curated a retreat that will detox, re-energize, and inspire your mind and body.

    Michelle Brugal is a professional dancer and trainer based in New York City. She is the creator of brugalbodymoves, a fitness based dance class that incorporates cardio, strength training, and yoga to achieve a toned, lean, and agile body. Michelle’s acute attention to detail pertaining to form, style, and execution is what enables her clients to achieve transformation.

  • Jess Klein

    Jess Klein is a former professional dancer and yoga teacher residing in Bali, Indonesia. She has had the good fortune of working as a yoga and fitness instructor with various wellness centers and retreats since moving from New York city over three years ago. She currently holds a 200-hour certification from Yogaworks America and has found her strength is in guiding her students on their own personal journey to wellness by making yoga accessible regardless of their background.

This retreat will take place at Slow Villas and Spa, Gili Air, Indonesia. As soon as you set foot on Gili Air, you will feel your body and soul fill up with an extreme sensation of relaxation. An eco-friendly island, there are no motorized vehicles on Gili Air, the only way to get around is with the wonderful local horse-carts (Gili taxi), by bicycle, or by foot. The friendly locals will help you climb aboard a horse-cart, to ensure your safe arrival at Slow - Gili Air - Private pool villas.

The island has plenty of things to do. It's surrounded by white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue water and pristine coral reefs. Ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, kite surfing, surfing, wake boarding, and any other water sport.

Gili Air is located in the coral triangle, which is an area in the tropical marine waters, where the biodiversity underwater is the most developed in the world, 50 percent more species are discovered here than in the Red Sea. You can see up to 12 turtles on a dive.

Acro yoga for beginners or advanced practitioner

AcroYoga is a mix of partner acrobatics, Thai massage, and yoga. Essentially, it builds a practice of the understanding of trust. Trust within the body, trust within the community, and trust in the fact that it’s a lot of fun to do these amazing things you never thought you’d be able to do.

Day trip to Lombok

Lombok has beautiful scenery and is more pristine than its sister island of Bali. It has beautiful temples and beautiful rice paddies. Lombok is also famous for its pottery and textiles. In central and southern Lombok, there are several small villages where you can visit pottery, weaving, wood, and coconut handicraft centers.

In the north of Lombok lies Senaru, a traditional village and below Senaru are two beautiful waterfalls. The most common is to visit the first waterfall. For those who enjoy walking, why not take a walk in the jungle and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The waterfalls are a bit down in a valley and surrounded by jungle, trees, and flowers. After a visit to the waterfalls, it’s nice to take a cool drink with a beautiful view of the volcano, the rice fields, and the sea!

Diving

The Gili islands are known for their rich underwater world. Bali and Lombok are situated at the meeting point for the Indian Ocean and the Java Sea. This is why Slow Retreats are famous for their wide variety of aquatic life.

Gili Air has several dive centers if you wish to do some diving during your stay. It does not matter if you have not dived before or you are an experienced diver, there is diving for everyone.

Fire shows for beginners

Fire performance typically involves equipment or other objects made with one or more wicks which are designed to sustain a large enough flame to create a visual effect. Fire performance includes skills based on juggling, baton twirling, poi spinning, and other forms of object manipulation.

Gili creative Sunday music sessions

Join the Gili Magic Crew monkeys for their weekly meeting point at Lucky’s Bar, from sunset. Live DJ’s, acrobatic performances, fire show and much more! This is a walk-in jam session!

Gili kite surf, water sport center

Gili kite surf is the first water sports center to offer kite surfing lessons on Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. The center offers kite surfing lessons and equipment rental. Kite surfing, surfing, stand up paddle board, kayak, hobie-cat (catamaran), and wakeboarding activities are available at the center.

Golf

A speed boat can drive you in 15 minutes from Gili Air to the Hole 1 of Golf Lombok Rinjani, located in Tanjung, Lombok. Your golf day can be organized by the Slow Retreats.

Hula hoop for beginners

Hooping is a fantastic way to tone the troublesome tummy area, but there are many other benefits that can be gained from spinning a hoop, namely improved strength, coordination and calorie burning, as well as the undeniable enjoyment factor!

The most important thing, Slow Retreats hope to achieve is quite simply, a lot of fun! Some people come for an intense abdominal and cardio workout, some come for the first time just hoping to learn how to keep a hoop spinning around their hips!

It is an undeniable truth that how you feel on the inside, affects how you feel on the outside, so Slow Retreats hope your mind will focus on the fun as they help your body focus on the fit. Slow Retreats love hooping, and hope that after a Hula Hoop class, you will be left feeling lighter in both step and spirit, which is a great place to start (or continue) the journey towards long- term success of a happy and healthy mind and body!

Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination. The health benefits of Pilates include improved flexibility, increased muscle strength and tone, particularly of your abdominal muscles, lower back, and hips.

Poï for beginners

Poï refers to both a style of performing art and the equipment used for engaging in poi performances. As a performance art, poï involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns. Poï artists also dance whilst swinging poï.

Snorkeling

The three islands have many coral reefs surrounding them. You can snorkel right outside of the dive shop and follow the current all the way down to the southern part of the island. The Gili islands are famous for turtles and colorful marine life.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Lombok International Airport (LOP). Slow Retreats will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.

Arrival by ferry / boat

Several boats arrive daily, directly from Bali to Gili Air. Estimated traveling time from the hotel is four to five hours including the one and half hours to two hours of boat ride. Open return tickets are available in Bali and on Gili Air.

The price for a ticket is 350 000 IDR to 700 000 IDR, depending on the season. Before you buy your boat tickets, make sure to check the meteorological conditions. If the sea is rough, it's sometimes better to fly to Lombok International Airport (LOP) and then take the 20 minutes boat ride.
