Private dormitory (private room and bath)

The most popular accommodations are dormitory accommodations - shared room and shared bath. There are two dormitories, Vivekananda Vihar and Ramalinga Nilayam, which are centrally heated and air-conditioned and convenient to meals and programs. The rooms are able to comfortably accommodate from two to eight people in upper and lower bunk beds.

A limited number of private dormitory rooms with shared bathrooms are also available for one or two people. Dormitory accommodations are not coed. Please advise if you are not able to climb stairs.

Lotus guest house (private room and bath)

Each room in the six unit guest house is equipped with a small refrigerator, queen size bed, and full bath. Each room in the nine unit guest house is equipped with a queen sized bed and full bath, and no refrigerator.

The newest Lotus Guest House has twenty-two private rooms with private baths. Twelve have a full size bed, two have a single bed, and eight have two single beds.

They have rooms available for the physically challenged. All of the guest houses have wireless internet access.

Programma

Yogaville Satchidananda Ashram offers a quiet place in a rural setting to personalize your retreat experience. Immerse yourself in daily yoga and meditation and meet with a mentor to help you make the best use of this time, or you can practice silence, rest, and take walks in the peaceful countryside.

Yogaville Satchidananda Ashrams new personal retreat

Yogaville Satchidananda Ashram have created a new type of personal retreat; a special interest retreat for their guests who would like to focus their attention on particular areas of personal development. These new monthly midweek retreats will not only allow you the time, space, and guidance to relax and go within but also offer talks and workshops to enhance your knowledge and understanding of a topic.

At any time of year you may reach a point in which you need to step outside of the everyday routine of your life and ask yourselves: Do I feel run down and in need of a tune-up? Do I need to calm my mind? Am I experiencing too much stress in my life? Or am I tired a lot of the time? Or, perhaps, if you have time on your hands but no get up and go, you might ask: Am I in need of more energy and more enthusiasm for life? Whatever your situation, you can find something here at Yogaville to help you on your way to a richer, more fulfilling life.

You will be able to join the ashram daily schedule, take morning classes in your area of interest and still have time to enjoy Yogavilles beautiful natural setting and to spend time in their sacred spaces. All of these special interest retreats offer tools that will lead you on pathways to healthier, happier life experiences. Driving directions from the North

From Boston: (approx. 12 hours)

  • Choose route to New York City or take Mass Pike West to Sturbridge
  • Then follow I-84 West to Scranton, PA
  • From Scranton, take I-81 South to Staunton, VA
  • From Staunton, I-64 East to Charlottesville (about 30 miles)
  • Leave I-64 at exit for Route 20 South, Scottsville
  • Follow directions from Charlottesville, via Route 20 South

From New York City: (approx. 4 hours to Baltimore)

  • Take George Washington Bridge, Holland or Lincoln Tunnels to New Jersey Turnpike South until it ends (or switch off at exit 7 or below to I-295 South to avoid toll)
  • Both Turnpike and I-295 take you to Delaware Memorial Bridge
  • Cross Bridge and continue through Delaware on I-95 South to Baltimore, following signs

Continuing from Baltimore: (approx. 4.5 hours)

  • Stay on I-95 and take the Harbor Tunnel-Thruway over / under Baltimore and stay on I-95 South, following signs, toward Washington, DC
  • Before you reach DC, exit onto the Capitol Beltway, I-495, West, Silver Spring, toward Frederick/Bethesda
  • Following I-495 from Maryland into Virginia, around Washington, until exit 49 (22 miles) for I-66 West toward Manassas
  • After about 12 miles, exit off I-66 (exit 52) to Route 29 South until Charlottesville.

From Washington, DC: (approx. 3.5 hours)

  • Take Constitution Avenue toward the George Washington Monument
  • Go onto I-66 West. Take I-66 out of Washington and continue for about 45 minutes to exit 43A toward Warrenton and Gainsville
  • Take Route 29 South into Charlottesville

Continuing from Charlottesville: (approx. 1 hour)

  • Take the exit for I-64 West toward Lynchburg on 29 (South) Bypass
  • Continue for about 4 miles on the Bypass
  • Take I-64 East toward Richmond
  • After about 3 miles, take exit 121 A onto Route 20 South, follow 20 through Scottsville
  • Cross the James River and continue on Route 20 for about 8 miles into Buckingham County
  • Look for Route 655 on right (small rectangular white sign). 655 is on the right immediately after Midway Market. Go right onto 655 (Rt. 655s name changes from Glenmore Rd. to Jerusalem Church Rd. to Manteo) and continue for 5 miles to a stop sign (there are small stores on both sides)
  • Continue straight through stop sign on 655 for 7 miles (655 becomes 601 after a short time.) At the end of a winding hill is the intersection of 601 and 604
  • (Route 604 is named Woodland Church Road) Turn left onto Route 604
  • After 3/4 mi., turn right at the sign: Sivananda Hall, Visitors
  • Proceed to Sivananda Hall reception area

Alternate route from Charlottesville:

  • Leave I-64 for 29 South (towards Lynchburg)
  • Go about 30 miles to Lovingston
  • Turn left (East) on Route 56 (James River Highway) towards Shipman
  • Travel about 15 miles, cross the James River
  • In 2 miles turn left onto Route 604 (Woodland Church Road)
  • Continue 4 mi. on 604. Pass the first large green sign on the corner of 604 and Karuna Road that reads Satchidananda Ashram - Yogaville, Visitors, continue straight ahead 0.8 mile and turn left at the second large green sign on 604 that reads: Sivananda Hall, Visitors.
  • Proceed to Sivananda Hall reception area.

Driving directions from the East

From Richmond:

  • Take Route 60 West about 60 miles through Buckingham Courthouse
  • About 1.5 miles past the Courthouse on Route 60, turn right onto Route 56
  • Continue on Route 56 about 8 miles, past Route 604 on the left, and then after .06 miles, turn right onto Route 604
  • After about 4 miles, continue pass the first green sign that reads Welcome to Yogaville. (on the corner of Route 604 and Karuna Road)
  • Continue on Route 604 for another 0.8 miles and turn left at the second large green sign that reads Sivananda Hall Visitors.
  • Proceed to Sivananda Hall reception area.

From Roanoke:

  • Take Route 460 East toward Bedford to Lynchburg

From Lynchburg:

  • Take Route 29 North (towards Charlottesville)
  • Go about 30 miles to Lovingston
  • Turn right (East) on Route 56 towards Shipman
  • Travel about 11.5 miles cross the James River
  • In 2 miles turn left onto Route 604
  • After about 4 miles, continue pass the first green sign that reads Welcome to Yogaville. (on the corner of Route 604 and Karuna Road)
  • Continue on Route 604 for another 0.8 miles and turn left at the second large green sign that reads Sivananda Hall Visitors
  • Proceed to Sivananda Hall reception area

From Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill, North Carolina:

  • Take 15 North to the outskirts of Farmville, Virginia
  • Take 15 bypass
  • Follow 15 North to Route 60
  • Take a left onto Route 60 West and continue through Buckingham Courthouse
  • About 1.5 miles past the Courthouse on Route 60, turn right onto Route 56
  • Continue on Route 56 about 8 miles, past Route 604 on the left, and then after .06 miles, turn right onto Route 604

Arrival by airplane

In making your travel arrangements, you may book the following airlines for Charlottesville: US Air, United Express (United Airlines), American Eagle (American Airline), and Comair (Delta).

There is no public transportation from Charlottesville to Yogaville. You may wish to rent your own car or contact the Ashram reservation center to arrange transportation to the Ashram. Avis, Budget, and Hertz rental car companies are located at the airport and in Charlottesville.

Arrival by bus

In making your travel arrangements, public transportation from your area into Charlottesville is available via Amtrak, Greyhound Bus.

Arrival by train

You may order pick-up and / or drop-off service to and from Yogaville from the train station. Pricing info and details can be found at Super Shuttle website or with a quick search on Google. Visit the Greyhound or Amtrak website if you require a reservation from DC to Charlottesville.
