Dappled amongst the forested landscape of the Ratna Ling grounds are 14 modern private cottages. Each bright and spacious cottage is within a three to eight minute walk from the main lodge and can provide accommodations for one to four guests.
You enter the doors of the lodge at 3 p.m., remove your shoes, and are warmly greeted with tea and the wholesome serenity of the Ratna Ling community. A friendly staff member will give you detailed instructions for your well-being on retreat, a schedule of classes, and the keys to your new home away from home. You will walk a short distance to your beautiful private cottage and begin to feel grounded and supported as you breathe in the cleansing fresh air. Along with redwood and oak trees, you may see many of the peaceful animal friends going about their routine. Families of deer, wild turkeys, ravens, rabbits, and fox, just to name a few.
Enjoying a hot cup of tea or coffee in the privacy of your cottage balcony, you soak in the natural beauty as all of your cares and worries seem to dissolve into space. Freed from the demands of modern life, you will reconnect with the healing qualities of steady breath and an open heart. The walk to the dining hall for 05:30 p.m. dinner is refreshing as the sun begins to settle for the evening. A lovingly prepared meal awaits and begs to be eaten with mindfulness and care as the food nourishes your body and soul.
Back at your cottage, an abundance of stars gleam overhead while the nurturing quietude lulls you into a restful nights sleep. Upon waking, you feel rejuvenated and ready to make the most of the day. You walk to the yoga room while the stars fade into the light. This space is a safe and sacred environment open to all, with plenty of yoga and meditation props for everyone. Your instructor will guide you through gentle and effective movement and stillness practices in the Buddhist tradition, in an attempt to awaken the fullness of your potential.
Your body and senses awake and energized, you head to 08:00 a.m. breakfast. The day is full of possibilities and to get the most out of your Ratna Ling experience, you will want to take advantage of the wonderful regularly scheduled meditation or yoga classes. In your free time, you may want to enjoy a healing massage (2-week advanced reservations necessary) or bodywork, schedule private instruction in Buddhist studies, venture into Salt Point State Park for a hike through the redwoods, explore the local beaches, share conversation with new friends, catch up on your reading or journaling, or simply enjoy the art of being. This full day also includes a healthful and delicious lunch, served at 12:15 p.m., and dinner, served at 05:30 p.m., and you are more than welcome to bring your own special snacks or beverages.
In the evening, you light the fireplace in your cottage and reflect upon the day. Perhaps you learned something new in one of the classes or discovered a delicate flower that seemed to have appeared just for you. You feel recharged, rebalanced, and ready to implement these new discoveries into your life at home. In the morning, you may decide to join a second yoga class, or maybe sit for meditation by your fireplace. After breakfast, you are excited to share your experience with the loved ones in your life as you prepare to depart at 11:00 a.m. On your drive home, colors seem a little brighter. You are certain that this personal retreat is exactly what you needed and plan to return very soon.
Ratna Ling welcome guests of all levels of experience to join in their spiritual study and practice. Many of the classes are deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhist teachings and are designed to create the conditions for the exploration of your inner environment. Curiosity and an open mind is all that is required. Beginner and expert level students are welcome. Please check for class times and availability when you check in. All classes are complimentary and no prior registration is necessary.

Kum Nye (Tibetan yoga) is a gentle healing system that relieves stress, transforms negative patterns, and helps you to be balanced and healthy. Components of the class include simple (though not necessarily easy) postures and mindful movements, as well as working with the breath and meditation. Meditation is an ongoing practice of self-knowledge that attunes you to your true inner nature. Once you experience even a glimpse of this nature, you naturally begin to live more meaningful and harmonious lives - lives that benefit yourselves and others. This class will introduce the basic components of sitting meditation: posture, relaxation of the body, awareness of the breath, and neutrality toward thoughts and other mental activity. Coming from the ancient Chinese practice of combining breath and regenerative movement, this class will begin with the inner practice of balancing the elements in the body and the mind. The surroundings at Ratna Ling support this slow, introspective interaction with nature, the breath and life. Class held in the Healing Buddha classroom.
Experience a guided, slow, moving meditation, for relaxation and body-mind awareness. This is an opportunity to learn what moves you and how you have infinite choices in how you move through life. This class can free your body to move with ease and grace while bringing joy to your mind. A perfect way to acclimate to your new environment, and prepare to rest peacefully for the night. A favorite with guests is the nature walk. Stroll through the serene and beautiful wooded paths filled with unsurpassed vistas. Reflect and meditate among the redwoods and witness the untamed wildlife interaction. No matter what season, the environment will feed your spirit. This will be a brisk walk to enhance cardiovascular circulation. Meet at the circle of redwoods across from the lodge entrance.
