Pura Vida Wellness Retreat is an eco-retreat which is mostly EMF-free. There is Wi-Fi limited to certain hours in the common area. There are spots on the property where you can get cellular reception. Pura Vida Wellness Retreat invites you to retreat from the media, computers, and phones. Unlike other hotels in the area, you are not limited just to your room. It’s a communal spiritual retreat experience.
For cleansing and spiritual rejuvenation, Pura Vida Wellness Retreat offers temazcal, a type of sweat lodge used traditionally by pre-Hispanic indigenous people of Mexico. For meditative Vipassana walks, there is a labyrinth in the zen garden. You will also find a way to enjoy your aloneness on meditation decks on the rocks by the ocean. To ensure your meditative retreat experience, loud music or alcohol is not allowed at the property.
The word holistic comes from Greek word holos (whole). It means that healing needs to embrace the whole and not just separate parts. It also means that nothing can be discarded or ignored, it rather needs a full integration of all parts.
Each human being displays multiple aspects of spirit and they all need to be addressed. In the holistic approach, you don’t just acknowledge a complete person, physically, mentally, and psychologically. You move beyond the person, into transpersonal, as the 'whole' doesn’t exist just as a separate person. You explore spiritual and human dimensions of being or in other words: vertical and horizontal, being nothing, and everything at the same time.
There are two basic breathing techniques being practiced during the Holistic Breathwork session, which help to facilitate both human vulnerability in the personal and human spirituality beyond the personal. The session integrates sharing, spiritual counseling, conscious feedback, inquiry, transformation of negative core patterns and beliefs, life coaching and conscious, connected, deep breathing.
The benefits are:
Reiki is Japanese for 'vital life force energy'. As a healing modality, it is a transmission of spiritually guided subtle energy that balances body, mind, and spirit through clearing energetic blockages.
The effect of Reiki is deeply relaxing and soothing, allowing the recipient to reconnect with one’s essential nature. It promotes healing and pain relief on many levels and is especially supportive of issues of stress, anxiety, addictions, weight loss, depression, fear, and grief.
The treatment is received fully clothed through gentle hands-on placements of the practitioner. The energy flows wherever required and is usually felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body, leaving a wonderful glowing radiance within.
Ozone’s effect on damaged cells is quite specific. It attacks the pathogenic materials that don’t have a protective coating; it assaults diseased cells that proliferate but exist without adequate cell wall enzymes. Pure oxygen does not do this in quite the same way. Unlike oxygen, ozone selectively kills cancer cells.
Herein lies the major difference between ozone, as a natural treatment for cancer, and traditional medical therapies. Ozone only kills the pathogenic cells. Chemotherapy and radiation are just as efficient at killing cancer cells, but they kill healthy cells too. Because ozone possesses an extra atom of oxygen, it is “electrophilic.” In other words, it is unbalanced electrically and it wants to balance itself by finding another unbalanced charge.
All diseased cells, including cancer cells, as well as viruses, harmful bacteria, and other pathogens, are also similarly electrically imbalanced. Because of the imbalance that ozone shares with all diseased cells, they find each other. Quite beautifully, it is a mutual attraction dance between the disease (the pathogenic cells) and the remedy for the disease (ozone).
Both oxygen and ozone are enemies to viruses. Because viruses are anaerobic, blasts of high concentration of oxygen and ozone are very effective in killing them.
Shallenberger describes the specific methods by which ozone helps to fight cancer:
Benefits of an oxygen / ozone sauna are:
Thus, ozone has the impressive talent of being toxic to damaged and dying cells, and simultaneously non-toxic to healthy ones. For cancer, it is an important adjunctive therapy to a good nutritional program, combined with aggressive detoxification procedures.
Ozone can selectively kill cancer cells amongst all the other sick cells in the body. It is important to understand that repeated exposure to ozone, however administered, is necessary to reverse any disease. In addition, it is useful to expose oneself to various methods of ozone application. Small, infrequent doses will be significantly less effective.
Regular ozone exposure brings many benefits beyond suppressing cancer activity. As it enhances circulation, it also provides the perfect environment for cellular rejuvenation. It can clear plaque from arteries, restore acid / alkaline balance, improve nutrient assimilation, and remove toxic deposits from the intestines and colon. All these actions make ozone a powerfully potent tool for realizing longevity, and anti-aging.
In the evening, you may enjoy rest and relaxation, occasional live music, and spiritual cinema where you can watch inspirational / educational DVDs. On Sunday, Pura Vida Wellness Retreat may schedule a day or half a day of structured silence, which includes silent meditations, mindfulness walks, group breathwork.

Yelapa is a small fishing village located by a bay within Puerto Vallarta Bay and accessible only by boat. Nestled between a tropical jungle and a sandy beach, with no cars and roads, it is a perfect place for a healing retreat. Yelapa is a unique, safe, and peaceful place with no crime, so do not get discouraged by stories and news about Mexico. It is a town of about 1000 native Mexicans living in an indigenous community, peacefully co-existing with around 200 expats (in a high season).
The retreat center is at the Point, the area removed from the village (12-minute walk), just three-minute walk from a small beach and 20 - 25 minutes' walk from the main beach. The venue is only a three-hour flight from the San Francisco Bay area and a 40-minute boat ride from Puerto Vallarta (15-minute taxi drive from the airport to water taxi).
Three green vegetable juices with the option of protein shake / citrus juice will be served daily as well as cleansing spice and herbal teas, daily liquid multivitamins and minerals. There are also options of hot or raw soup, chia seed pudding, and fresh fruits.
Pura Vida Wellness Retreat serves five large glasses of juice a day, liquid supplements, unlimited tea, and water. Most people feel quite full and do not get hungry and feel lighter with more energy than when eating since the digestive process normally consumes a lot of energy.
Some people, on the first or second day, have a temporary sense of hunger because the organism is conditioned to want food and have a full feeling in the belly. This usually passes quickly. If you need extra nourishment, Pura Vida Wellness Retreat can add blended raw green soups and miso broth.
In order to receive more benefits from your cleanse, you should be eliminating acidic foods like processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, meat, dairy and wheat from your diet, at least two to three days before the retreat. Eat more alkaline, whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, almonds, quinoa, red rice. Drink plenty of fresh water, at least eight glasses a day.
If you would like to do half fasting and half cleansing diet Pura Vida Wellness Retreat can arrange that. It is best to schedule this in advance. Usually, people choose one meal per day, either lunch or dinner.
