During this retreat, you will be staying at Suryalila Retreat Centre. Suryalila is a beautiful old renovated olive farm consisting of eight houses that form the cortijo. In typical Spanish style, there are two inner courtyards, one of which blooms with orange and lemon trees. The property sits on 45 acres of land and is still a working olive farm with 350 olive trees. Suryalila also grows organic vegetables and fruits and keeps chickens for eggs.
Suryalila is nestled serenely in a large open valley in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazalema. This majestic mountain range can be seen looming large on the horizon behind Suryalila. A striking part of the natural beauty of the property is the breathtaking vista extending in all directions: rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, and lakes. The sense of vastness and expansiveness is very uplifting.
The houses on the property are all artfully and tastefully furnished and decorated with careful attention to detail. Every room is uniquely beautiful with impeccable Feng Shui. You may choose among three different accommodations; twin rooms, the small dormitory for four people, or small dormitory for eight people.
Suryalila has three yoga halls. Ganesha yoga shala has a gorgeous wooden ceiling as well as a wooden floor and is filled with light from windows on both walls as well as a skylight. It also has a lovely balcony with benches for enjoying the expansive views. Ganesha yoga shala comfortably holds 30 people.
The Om Dome has been dubbed the most magnificent yoga hall in Europe. The sacred geometry creates a cathedral-like space, which is awe-inspiring. The dome overlooks rolling hills, olive groves, and a ruined convent. Inside, the dome boasts underfloor heating and cooling and two long walls for practicing inversions. The walls have been beautifully decorated with colorful murals of Indian gods and Tibetan imagery.
There is a state of the art sound system as well as atmospheric lighting. The dome can comfortably hold 60 people practicing yoga and a lot more for concerts and other events. Both of the yoga spaces are fully outfitted with yoga props.
Morgan Palmer Hubbard
Morgan teaches a flowing, dynamic form of yoga practice, very influenced by the work of a teacher called Simon Borg-Olivier and the Yoga Synergy school, which teaches traditional yoga for the modern body which is a blend of Indian, Chinese and Tibetan yogas, and Western physiotherapy, aimed at making yoga practice safer and more effective for modern practitioners.
Malwina is a Barcelona-based Synergy yoga teacher. Her journey started with Iyengar and Hatha yoga, with tough attention to detail and proper alignment. Later on, she joined more dynamic styles such as Vinyasa and Anusara, where she discovered more fluidity in the practice. The same year, she began practicing meditation and studying Buddhist philosophy with a curiosity to deepen her inner exploration and mindfulness. For the last three years, she has been practicing Synergy style with Simon Borg Olivier and Bianca Machliss.
Yogaroom Barcelona (Vinyasa Yoga)
Carlota Amargos moved to Michigan, USA, in 2008 to continue her music studies and there she connected with the yoga state community, where she studied Vinyasa yoga with Jen Hayes, Christopher Venetis, and Justin Barnes. In 2013, she decided to take the teacher training in Yogaroom Barcelona, and since then she combines teaching yoga with her music career. Carlota's classes are dynamic and energizing, finding a challenge, but in a conscious way, respecting the body’s needs.
