Holycombe Holistic Retreat offers a beautiful indoor space for workshops of all varieties, providing the space and ambiance all people need. There are five bedrooms in the main house. There are three double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms upstairs. One of the twin bedrooms has an en-suite and there is the use of two other bathrooms for the other guests. It also has a beautiful healing room downstairs, with an en-suite bathroom which residents may also sleep in.

There is a kitchen, but residents on retreats eat together in the conservatory, using the course kitchen in the main house, but tea and coffee can be made in the kitchen. The kitchen is small but very well-equipped. It has a cooker, two small fridges, a sink, and all the kitchen equipment that you will need.

The workshops happen in the "angel room", a lovely light room with wooden floors, with the option for a big rug, and French windows that open up onto a terraced garden and a fireplace. This room can comfortably hold yoga students when lying down but can hold more people, depending on the course that is running. Adjoined to this room is the conservatory, a large communal eating room filled with plants and glorious views of the gardens can be seen. This has a large table and chairs which can seat 18 people or 20 at a squeeze.

    British Wheel of Yoga (Yoga)

    With a background in journalism, science, travel, and well-being, Kym has always wanted to combine her passions to inspire others with a focus on creative relaxation. Having started off organizing retreats which merged writing with yoga, she has since introduced photography and drawing and combined it with meditative and mindful techniques. Although quite often it's not the creative part that is challenging, the relaxing part! Kym trained in Sun Power yoga (known as SPY) - a combination of Hatha, Sivananda, and Ashtanga yoga, and has also trained in Kids yoga and Yin.

    Working in the criminal justice and prison systems has taught Julia that the only way to keep going is through yoga. She decided to train as a teacher 20 years ago and still works within the criminal justice system, where she also teaches yoga. Her no-nonsense but energetic and fun approach to teaching has ensured she has a dedicated following.

  • Helen Slater

    With English, Swedish, Dutch and Czech influences in her life, Helen brings her own expressive identity to MindfulThinking@Play. Always trying new experiences and even making up her own (like painting her own body and using it to decorate her living room!). Her focus is on strength and balance but, it is in Autogenics (a form or relaxation) and belly dancing where she comes into her own as a unique, charismatic and confidence-building teacher.

The retreat takes place at Holycombe Holistic Retreat, set in a verdant wooded valley on the edge of the Cotswold village of Whichford, United Kingdom. This yoga retreat is in the enchanting grounds of a former Norman castle, surrounded by an ancient wood and adjacent to a water-filled moat. With six acres of land to play with, you can find your own space to explore, find peace, and hideaway.

You can find many rare species of trees and plants and an abundance of wood anemones, primroses, and bluebells in spring; chestnuts, blackberries, and sloes in autumn, and observe the wildlife from muntjack to polecats and kingfishers. It is the ideal place to escape and enjoy the feeling of being lost in tranquility.

During the retreat, you will be served two breakfasts, lunches, and three vegetarian suppers included in the package. In the kitchen, you can also make tea and coffee to accompany your day. An additional charge of 15 GBP will be added to those with dietary requirements.

During this retreat, you can relax with mindful art, music, and mindful-inspired games. You can also join the optional activity to create artful desserts and learn about raw food nutrition.

Driving directions from the South

  • From London M40 north, take junction 8 (A40) for Oxford, leave on A44,
  • Take A3400 going north at Chipping Norton roundabout.
  • At north, end of Long Compton take right turn up steep hill signposted Whichford (where the main road bends steeply to the left, 200 yards past the church).
  • After two miles along the high ridge and 100 yards after Whichford 30 miles per hour sign, take first right down steep lane.
  • Holycombe is on your right at the bottom of the dip

Driving directions from the North

  • From Stratford-upon-Avon take A3400 (or from M40 (Junction 15) and take A429 towards Stow-on-Wold
  • At Halford join A3400 and drive south through Shipston-on-Stour.
  • Take the fourth turn left (four miles south of Shipston) to Whichford and proceed as from above.

Driving directions from the East (main road way)

  • From Banbury, take A361 to the Chipping Norton roundabout (intersection of A3400 and A361) then turn north on A3400.

Driving directions from the East (cross country route)

  • From Gt. Rollright, Banbury, you will drive down a steep hill into Whichford, where the village green and telephone box is on your left, the pub on your right.
  • At war memorial, turn left off the main road and drive past the church which is on your right, then go round the right-hand bend, down to the bottom of the dip, and Holycombe is on your left.

Arrival by train

The nearest railway station (five miles away) is Moreton-in-the-Marsh which is on the Oxford-Hereford line. From London, you leave from Paddington Station. From Moreton, you will need to get a taxi. Since it is a small country station, so booking is a good idea.

Arrival by buses

Buses from Oxford (Gloucester Green Station) come as far as Chipping Norton (five miles away) so again a taxi is necessary. There are regular buses from London Victoria to Oxford, Oxford Citylink, and Oxford Tube.
