You will be accommodated in single or double rooms in either the Griss Lodge and Villas or the Otro Lado Lodge and Restaurant. These hotels were selected because the Lucero team believes they are two of the best places to stay in town, and since they are only 25 meters from the ocean.
This surf house is located in the untouched jungle of Santa Teresa on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula. It has six luxury apartment houses that are within walking distance from the beach and are wisely-built with local wood. The rooms are air-conditioned and furnished with a mix of modern and traditional items. They also have nice open spaces and great ventilation that are perfect for a tropical climate.
Otro Lado is just steps away from the best surf beaches in Santa Teresa. There are two excellent beach breaks and one point break within walking distance from the hotel. Otro Lado caters to surfers and non-surfers alike who want to experience a relaxing wellness vacation. The hotel's theme is inspired by a blend of Asian and Caribbean worlds. It is located close to surf shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and bicycle rentals.
The hotel has six spacious rooms that offer simplicity and comfort to its guests. They all have a private lounging area surrounded by a relaxing tropical garden, a private bathroom, and a terrace where you can admire the surrounding tropical vegetation and pool view. Each room has either one king-sized bed or two single beds that all have orthopedic mattresses, air-conditioning, a safe, and free Wi-Fi connection.
For surfing, you need focus, a clear mind, and a strong body which are also three benefits of yoga. Learning to breathe, clear your head, and hold poses to strengthen muscles is a perfect out-of-water practice for catching that ride in the ocean. The Lucero team has found the perfect balance between the two so you can enjoy both activities to the fullest during your time in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, a town that is truly a surf and yogi mecca.
The surf lessons will include paddling, duck diving, catching a wave, positioning, and more. A certified and experienced surf coach will give you the personal attention you need, and it does not matter if you are a beginner or already a bit more advanced surfer. During the final surf lesson, the Lucero team will go to the beach for your photography session, capturing you in action with the waves. These photos will be sent to you by email after the trip.
Yoga trains your mind to be still so that you can see things clearly. Nature will intensify this experience and heighten your awareness. When you practice yoga outdoors, it will give a different dimension to your practice. During this retreat, there will be a total of five yoga sessions. Four sessions will be held at a beautiful outdoor yoga deck nearby, and one session will be at a breathtaking yoga studio out of town, which the Lucero team considers as a secret spot in the area.
There are different classes to choose from and you can choose when you want to join. You can either start your day with a yoga session while the jungle around you is just waking up, feeling the soft morning breeze on your face, or end your day with an evening class around 6 p.m., where you can rejuvenate after tiring activities under the sun.
A day trip to the Montezuma waterfalls via an all-terrain vehicle is included in your package. Montezuma is a nearby hippy town and you will be taken there to experience its beautiful waterfall. You can choose to hike all the way to the top and jump off the waterfall, or you can also stay at the bottom and swim in the fresh pool underneath. You will also do a stopover in the town proper to check out the souvenir shops.

This retreat will take place in the town of Santa Teresa in Costa Rica. It is a small popular beach village on the Pacific coast. The beautiful white sand beaches you will find here are known for some of the best surf breaks in the entire country, with great surf conditions all year round which is ideal for surfers of any level. This booming travel destination offers a pristine jungle view from the beach with no big buildings anywhere.
The rustic beauty of this town comes with one road that runs from the southern part of the town of Malpais up to the beach town of Playa Hermosa and further, parallel from the beach. Many amazing restaurants and quaint hotels are spread out across town on either sides of this road. This, in combination with clear blue water, white sand, and palm trees in the background, truly makes you feel like you are surfing in paradise.
All daily breakfasts and lunches are included in the price of this retreat. These meals will be provided at the accommodating hotel and prepared with fresh local ingredients. For breakfast, you can choose real Italian espresso or creamy cappuccino, delicious homemade cakes, tropical fruit salad, pancakes, or American-style food. The menu always provides an array of vegetarian, meat, and seafood options.
During your free time, there are other available activities near the camp like fishing, horseback riding, snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, and zip lining. Lucero Surf Retreats can help you organize a series of activities or excursions at an additional cost.
You can also choose to join optional morning group runs on the beach. The mornings in Santa Teresa are beautiful and perfect for an early work-out. Running together can be motivating and you will be so happy that you started your day off this way.
You can also choose to join a camp fire and music session on the beach. Every Sunday, there is a restaurant and bar at the north end of Santa Teresa that hosts Pura Sonica, a gathering of locals and tourists to celebrate with good food, good music, and a camp fire for sunset.
One massage session is included in the price of this retreat to relax, relieve, and invigorate tired muscles after a few days of surfing.
Please book your flight to arrive at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) or Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).
It is easier to fly into San Jose but sometimes, flights to Liberia are a lot cheaper which makes it a better choice to fly in instead. From both airports, it´s about the same distance to get to Santa Teresa but from San Jose, you have more transfer options.
From San Jose, you can book a domestic flight to arrive at Tambor Airport (TMU). Flights last for about 20 minutes and cost around 90 USD. The two airlines that fly from San Jose to Tambor are Sansa and Nature Air.
For the more adventurous traveler, there is the option to take a direct bus to Santa Teresa from San Jose. It leaves from the Coca Cola bus station at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The trip takes five hours including a one-hour ferry ride when you get to the pier. A ticket costs 10 USD for one way. Even though this option is a little more challenging because you have to take a taxi to the bus station and then make sure to find the right bus, once you're on the bus, it is a direct shot and you don´t have to worry about your luggage or changing buses.
From Tambor, expect a 45-minute taxi ride that costs approximately 50 USD for one to four people. There will be an extra fee of 10 USD for each additional person.
From San Jose, you can also take a shuttle to Santa Teresa. It will pick you up from the airport or your hotel and take you directly to meet up with the Lucero team. The trip is for about four to five hours including a one-hour ferry ride. The price is 45 USD per person and the shuttle leaves at 9 a.m. If you would like to leave at a different time, the price is 200 USD for a private shuttle that can take up to seven people.
