    All accommodation is en-suite and spacious, with air-conditioning, a sea view and its own private terrace. There is a mini bar and a safe in each room. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels are provided.

    There is a swimming pool, gym and sauna at the hotel for your enjoyment. A 5-euro fee is charged by the hotel for use of the gym and sauna. The hotel provides beach towels and there are sun beds on the sea front, around the pool and in the gardens. Bikes are available for hire, and there are also tennis courts.

    It’s a very precious and blessed occasion, when you have time to give yourself solely to yoga and meditation. This week in a beautiful remote part of Cyprus offers exactly that opportunity. It is for those who wish to explore further the power of yoga to bring transformation to body, heart and mind. Sadhana is a Sanskrit term meaning dedicated practice and that is exactly what this week is about.

    The 2018 retreat theme and structure is being offered at the request of participants from previous Cyprus retreats. Some have been returning each year to move more and more deeply into practice in the embrace of this natural Mediterranean landscape. They have expressed a wish to move even more deeply into practice and this offering is for them, and for you also. If you share that wish to move fully into yoga and meditation practice, away from the distractions of regular daily life, then perhaps you would like to join this May 2018.


    • You will be in a remote part of Cyprus next to a beautiful deserted stretch of beach
    • Your yoga practice is right next to the sea and some meditations are on the beach
    • You will practice Hatha yoga - asana and pranayama - and meditation twice daily
    • The focus will be on the energetics of Hatha yoga practice and how that transforms body and mind
    • This prepares you for deeper meditation and when integrated into daily life supports happier and wholesome living
    • You will explore first-hand how to build, contain and direct prana (your life-force) through your Hatha yoga practice for greater health
    • You will learn how to engage this alchemical force of prana held within you for healing and transformation of body, heart and mind
    • There will be some time set aside for silence each day to allow the benefits of the practice to integrate
    • There will be inner enquiry to support the releasing and clarifying effects of your practice, on physical and mental levels
    • You will be nourished each day by home-made Cypriot vegetarian meals, served three times daily, made from organic and/or locally-sourced, home-made fresh produce
    • Outside of practice, swimming in the sea or pool, resting in the sun, connecting with other retreat participants all add to all-round nourishment enjoyed on this week in Cyprus

    The yoga

    The yoga classes draw from Shama’s training in Sivananda, classical Hatha, dynamic Hatha, Ayurveda, Tantra, Restorative and Yin yoga styles. The two daily yoga classes offered on the Cyprus full and new moon retreats are designed to support the replenishing of body, heart and spirit. Whilst the full moon is a time for nourishing yourselves and your yoga practices reflect this during the full moon yoga retreats, The new moon is a time for quiet and introspection to replenish naturally low energy reserves and our practices also reflect this during new moon nights. On both full moon and new moon retreats, participants learn to support their health and well-being by adapting yoga and meditation practices, lifestyle and diet according to the phase of the lunar cycle.

    With a focus on an energetic nourishing of the body, heart, and mind, these yoga classes help to build steadiness, calm and strength in body and mind. This supports and enhances your “ojas“, the source of your vitality, vigour, immunity and longevity. In particular, when the moon is full and the light of the moon shines on you, you have the perfect conditions for buiding ojas. When the moon is new, it is time to conserve it. You will practice with this awareness.

    The Yyga classes will also include special breathing practices, healing visualisations and meditations which work to free up the flow of your prana (life-force) and to expand it. These practices and meditations nourish the heart, uplift the spirits, and restore positivity and optimism to the mind. You will be practicing outdoors on a yoga platform in the hotel gardens, a stone’s throw from the sea alongside a deserted unspoiled beach, with stunning views of the coast and mountains.

    This year the classes are particularly structured to connect you more deeply with the flow of prana within so that you may experience first-hand the transformative, alchemical power of Hatha yoga practice and know how to apply practice to direct and change your inner state for greater physical, mental and emotional well-being, as well as for transformation of consciousness.

    Most mornings and evenings, you will gather on the beach and meditate together as the sun rises over the mountains and sets over the sea. On the nights of the full moon, you will enjoy a special fire ceremony on the beach.

    Please note that on Friday, May 25, there is no lunch included and no afternoon yoga session to give everyone some extra free time. You will eat dinner together as usual and LoveYogaHealing will arrange something special for you on Friday evening.


    Due to the nature of the work that you do together on this retreat, it is not essential but recommended that you attend a workshop, a UK day or weekend retreat, or one of LoveYogaHealing's yoga holidays first of all. Two years’ yoga experience is required and a telephone chat to ensure that the retreat is right for you.

    The pre-requisites for this retreat are for everyone’s benefit to ensure a successful, safe and happy time for all in a retreat which includes but is about much more than physical yoga posture practice.

    • Regular prior attendance at Shama’s classes, or attendance on a workshop or past retreat
    • Agreement to:
    • 1. Attend all the meditation and yoga sessions
    • 2. Follow the retreat vegetarian dietary and lifestyle guidelines
    • 3. Abstention from alcohol once the retreat starts
    • 4. Maintaining silence during the dedicated silent hours of the retreat
    • 5. Valid travel insurance

    Please know that this is a transformational week in a powerfully healing environment. Due to this and due to the nature of the practices, you can sometimes find yourselves going through sensitive moments of transition and change, which may be experienced as reactivity, resistance, anger, sadness. This is all part and parcel of the purificatory nature of deep practice. Be prepared to be moved out of your comfort zone. You will have full support, love and respect from Shama, as the retreat teacher and other past, experienced participants at all times. On such a retreat as this, both teacher and all participants require your respect, kindness and cooperation.

    There are local excursions available to the Polis museum with its interesting ancient artifacts from the local area, the lovely small town of Polis, Aphrodite's Baths and nature walks, or boat trips to the Blue Lagoon, Longer excursions for your day off may be taken to the beautiful Troodos mountains, the ancient sites in and around Polis, or on a Jeep eco tour of the Akamas Peninsula nature reserve.

    • Shama Sara Palmer

      Shama learned yoga from her yoga teacher, who taught her the power of the breathing practices of Hatha yoga. She spent a lot of time traveling around the globe to places such as India, Japan, Thailand, Italy, USA, Canada, and the Bahamas, where she learned from and practiced many healing and spiritual traditions, before managing an integrative health clinic in London. She took her teacher training course from Sivananda Ashram yoga retreat in the Bahamas.

    Polis is a small town at the north-west end of the island of Cyprus, at the Centre of Chrysochous Bay, and on the edge of the Akamas peninsula nature reserve. You will be staying in a quiet, remote, eco-hotel, set alongside a beautiful stretch of coast in Cyprus. Here your accommodation and yoga space look out across the sea and are surrounded by peaceful gardens, olive and orange groves, and herb gardens with mountains beyond to three sides. The tranquil, natural setting invites your whole being to deeply relax and restore itself to balance and happiness.

    Be nourished by home-grown, lovingly prepared organic vegetarian foods. Apart from the restorative yoga classes and meditations, further nourishment and opportunity to build vigor and vitality is offered during this week through the carefully chosen meals. LoveYogaHealing discusses the food each year with the staff of the hotel to ensure that their lovingly-prepared Cypriot mainly vegan meals support your practice.

    Foods in the hotel are made from home-grown organic produce and locally sourced produce. This means the meals are full of nutrients, and this year LoveYogaHealing takes extra effort to ensure they are easily digestible to support the healing, cleansing and nourishment of the internal organs that your daily yoga practices will be initiating.

    Breakfast is a buffet service, taken with other guests of the hotel, and includes home-made breads, preserves, yoghurt and goats’ cheeses, home-grown fruits and herb teas, and the hotel’s own free range eggs. Lunch is specially prepared for the yoga retreat participants and is 95% plant-based meals with a little dairy on the side (yoghurt, goat's cheese) for those who like it. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated, such as gluten-free, dairy-free.

    The meals are taken on the restaurant terrace with views across the gardens to the sea. In the evening, you will dine whilst watching spectacular sunsets as the sun starts to go down over the sea.

    The hotel lounge bar sells juices, water, local wine, ice cream, teas and coffees, and the hotel’s own home-grown organic herb teas.

    For the Intensive Sadhana Retreat it is recommended to reduce activities outside of the retreat venue as much as possible to support the deepening work you are embarking upon. However, in between classes and meal times, you are free to enjoy the peace and quiet of the hotel gardens and beach, or to explore the beauty, history and culture of the surrounding area.

    There is the nearby small town of Polis with its many cafes, restaurants and shops. It is just a 15-minute walk away. Alternatively, about a 30-minute walk up the beach is Laatchi with its many waterside tavernas.

    Nearby sites of interest include Aphrodite’s Baths and the beautiful nature reserve of the Akamas Peninsula. There are jeep tours around the Akamas nature reserve, and boat tours to the wild and deserted Lara Bay and Blue Lagoon. A little further afield in Paphos (about a 45 minute drive away), are wonderful archaelogical sites such as Tombs of the Kings and the Paphos Mosaics.

    Arrival by airplane

    Please arrange your flights to Paphos International Airport (PFO). Transfers from and to this airport is available upon request. From the airport, LoveYogaHealing will have a taxi collect you and bring you to the hotel. If others are landing around the same time as you, LoveYogaHealing will organize shared taxis. It is 50 to 55 EUR, depending on the time of day, for a small taxi. For larger groups, larger taxis are available: these are approximately 80 EUR.
