It is with great honor and humility that Little Temple presents to you what will be the retreat of 2018. Little Temple welcomes you to this amazing and dynamic continent for what will be their fourth and biggest retreat to date. Dive into the very heart of Northern Africa, in a country packed full of culture and mysticism, and in doing so, you are invited to dive deeply into yourselves. Dynamic yoga, breath-work, meditation, beaches, mindfulness, live music, Moroccan dance workshops, silence, family constellations, rebirthing workshops, Kundalini yoga, and much more awaits you. All levels welcome.
The actual property is nestled inland from the ocean, protected from the Atlantic winds and has its own micro-climate. The property is almost completed isolated and this is what makes it so beautiful. The retreat villas are attached to resort property known as Essaouira Lodge, so you will have the full support of this facility should we require it.
You will be staying in beautiful villas attached to the lodge. Each villa has its own saloons (two per villa), beautiful private gardens, pools (4 by 9 meters), roof and outside terraces for (for sunrises and sunsets), and kitchens (the local market is available for any separate cooking or food preparation you would like to do outside of planned meal times).
The temperature in May is still mild however air-conditioning is available if needed or midnight dips in one of the three pools will hit the spot. Two persons per villa room accommodation are provided, however, upgrades are available should you feel the need to treat yourself and be alone during your African adventure. If you will be traveling with your family, the villas have their own self-contained family units with its own independent facilities, and if you are a couple or want a double bedroom to yourself, the villas have private suites that will be made available to you.
You will also enjoy the newly built yoga pavilion made exclusively available to the retreat's participants and fully stocked with all relevant yoga equipment. Retreat-goers will have full access to the resort's facilities: a pool house, restaurant, and bar, hammam (Moroccan spa) with saunas, hot pools, massages, and treatments. However, you will have your own masseuse or osteopath joining you again for the retreat offering his magical hands and touch at your request.
The lodge also offers adventure activities such as golf, quad biking, windsurfing, kite surfing, paddle board lessons, horse riding, desert camel treks, beach transfers twice daily, free wifi, hairdressing, babysitting, and laundry service, Marrakech or Essaouira airport transfer, 24/7 reception, and car rental.
In saying this, this is a home away from home. The team is small and intimate and really enjoys being intimate with their guests. It is a top priority for them that you feel at home when you are there, a place in the heart so to speak.
No matter if you are a beginner or advanced practitioner in yoga or any of the listed practices, you all are welcome!
After the morning early breakfast, you will start the day in silence with a rooftop sunrise meditation overlooking the beautiful surrounding African countryside, before moving to the brand new fully equipped yoga pavilion for an all level dynamic Hatha practice. The retreat is a time for deep yoga, introspection, rest, regeneration, and healing, this is why silence with oneself, especially in the mornings, is so important. It’s a time to let go and just be.
The rest of the day will be spotted with a couple of workshops, free time next to the pool, and time to explore the nearby beach (which is famous for surf and kite surfing) and at night, you will have relevant practices to gently integrate the day's experiences. Esther and Grant have run and held countless workshops and retreats, and they use their intuition to feel the group's dynamic as each group is different. Once they have done this, they will set the exact daily schedule.
The retreat mantra is that ‘everything is an invitation’, so if your perfect idea of a retreat is sitting by one of the two private pools attached to the villas, being served exotic drinks by the bar staff, going for massages in the private spa facilities, and practicing yoga now and then, you are most welcome!
And for those more adventurous souls who want to go deep into themselves and are not afraid to face those dark parts that are deeply buried inside, the varied practices and therapies will be made available to you and will open you to amazing new perspectives and realizations.
Everything is an invitation and the invitation is to everyone. We will have assistants available keeping an eye on everyone, so you will never feel unsupported. Positive and safe psychology is a top priority for the team, and their expert training will allow you to gently and deeply guide you through the different therapies.
Grant Sparkle is a 34-year-old New Zealander born in South Africa, currently working as an alternative therapist in Stockholm. His diverse teaching style comes from over 16 years experience on the yoga mat, across multiple alternative traditions, and training, spanning across the globe. He is originally a classically trained Hatha, Kundalini, Satyananda, and Sivananda yoga teacher. His style burns with the fire of a fusion of traditional Hatha and Kundalini practices, Pranayamas, asana, and meditation, as well as modern practices in meditation, psychology, and breathwork.
The venue is situated near the wild Atlantic Ocean, stone's throw from the amazing city of Essaouira, situated on the west coast of Morocco, a couple of hours drive from Marrakech. Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, was once a Portuguese counter. It is famous for its surf spots and its fortified medina which was built in the eighteenth century by the French architect Theodore Cornut. An amazing city which was classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001.
During your free time, you may try a hot air balloon ride over Marrakech to say goodbye (this is not co-formed yet and will be at an additional cost). You may also visit the Moroccan spa that will be made fully available to the guests with its own masseurs joining again this year and offering discounted massages in expert hands. Also, there will be two daily transfers to and from the beach, so if surfing, kite surfing, or water sports interest you, this is the retreat for you.

The resort is well connected by air with direct flights to Essaouira Airport (ESU) from London, Paris, Lyon, Brussels, and Frankfurt. The resort is 30 min from Essaouira city. Transfers are also possible through Casablanca. Cars can also be rented at the resort or airports (check availability). The cheapest route is to arrive into Marrakech (capital city) and transfer by car to the resort. Personal chauffeurs have been organized for the retreat specifically for this purpose and it is advised not to take local taxis for this two-hour drive if you fly into Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK).
The transfer will give you a gentle introduction to Africa as you will be zoomed passed the beautiful Atlas mountains for the door to door arrival. The chauffeurs have been instructed to stop for a tea break at a little café on the way for your comfort. The cost per vehicle for the door to door service (seating two to eight people) is just under 80 EUR for the two-hour journey.
