During this retreat, you will be staying at Sharpham House, a grade 1 listed mansion in the heart of the stunning 550 acre Sharpham Estate on the River Dart in South Devon. The aim of the Sharpham Trust of which Sharpham House is part, is to connect people with nature and themselves. Enjoy capability brown gardens, vineyards, and views over the Dart estuary this is a place of absolute peace.

Sharpham House offers a very different experience to staying in a hotel. You will enjoy the entire mansion to yourselves, which also has the relaxing, informal atmosphere of a family home. The surroundings are simply stunning and made the atmosphere and ambience of your stay so wonderful.

In addition to the 20 bedrooms offering single, double, twin and quadruple bedded rooms, you are free to make the house and make your home and lose yourself in the many stunning rooms including the music room, the octagonal room, the maurice ash room, the library, the dining room, and south wing. There is a choice of standard or premium rooms. As well as these rooms, they have a garden terrace with spectacular views of the Dart River.


During the retreat, we'll be guiding you through practices of Hatha yoga, Neurogenic yoga, and yoga Nidra.

Hatha yoga

Soothing, mindful movement, and breathing practices to help you calm your mind and connect with the wisdom held within your body.

Often, we consider thinking and analyzing to be a means to understand ourselves and find ‘solutions’ to our problems, forgetting that our body has its own memory and wisdom, if we take time to inquire and listen.

Neurogenic yoga

We’ll re-awaken our inner healer, allowing body and mind to release and let go. This deeply restorative practice awakens our innate tremor release response through gentle mindful Hatha yoga, restoring and rebalancing us as tensions ripple away.

Neurogenic yoga is accessible to everyone and we’ll be honoring your pace and ability in a nurturing and supportive space.

Yoga Nidra

We’ll ease you into guided yoga Nidra practices where you will effortlessly be carried into a meditative state, surfing the stages of sleep and exploring awareness from a clear non-analytical perspective. In this deeply relaxed state, your ‘judgements’ will be absent, your preconceptions gone and only the essence of your being will be present, offering insight and often a profound sense of everything being OK just as it is.

Jo Hamilton
Jo's journey began in 2006 with her own search to restore and recover. She had been supporting her son Matt’s journey through the special education system, who had autistic spectrum difficulties. Jo got lost between bureaucracy and overwhelm and needed to find herself again to feel better. Her search began. In researching therapies that would support both her son’s and her healing journey, she gathered a tool kit of practices that offer powerful release from emotional stress, physical stress, and trauma, safely and effectively. She has found all these tools personally healing.
James Reeves
James Reeves has almost two decades of yoga experience and teaches regular classes in Oxford and London and on He runs workshops and retreats worldwide and is the only iRest Yoga Nidra teacher trainer in the UK running training courses throughout the year. His interest in yoga Nidra was sparked during his first ever yoga class when the closing relaxation left him feeling a profound sense of interconnectedness and wholeness, an unexpected discovery that led to many years of self enquiry and in depth study with master teachers around the world.

This retreat takes place at The Sharpham Trust in Totnes, Devon, UK. The Sharpham Estate is set in a majestic location high above the River Dart. The house and gardens exude a sense of peace and tranquillity with exquisite views in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It consists of consists of 550 acres with activity happening at different locations.

In this retreat, you will be served daily breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, and afternoon tea. The food at Sharpham House is vegetarian and sourced, wherever possible, from their kitchen garden. They follow sustainable practices across the Sharpham Estate, their chefs produce high-quality, seasonal food. The Sharpham Estate farms produce award-winning wines and cheese as well as organic eggs and vegetables.

During your free time, you can dip your toe into the retreat, enjoy as much as feels right for you, or you may choose to simply dive in. You are free to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful heaven through walks over the stunning countryside on your own or with fellow wanderers. You also might choose to meet yourself on a hill and be still.

Driving directions from Devon Expressway

  • From the A38 or Devon Expressway, take the Totnes or Buckfastleigh exit.
  • On arriving in Totnes, at the first traffic lights, turn right onto the A381 towards Kingsbridge.
  • Half a mile outside Totnes, turn left to Ashprington which is about two miles.
  • On reaching the village, turn left up the hill and onto the Sharpham Estate.
  • Follow road downhill till you get to three way junctions and then follow signs to the back of Sharpham House, where there is a small car park. This is also the way to South Wing and the coach yard.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Exeter International Airport (EXT).

Arrival by Train

Please book your train to arrive at Totnes railway station or to arrive at Exeter Saint Davids. Frequent direct trains run from London, Birmingham, and the North. Trains to Totnes are on the Exeter, Plymouth, and Penzance lines. Totnes railway station is a five minute walk from Totnes town centre. From Exeter Saint Davids is approximately 20 minutes away by car from the retreat's venue.

Arrival by taxi

Committed to reduce the impact of cars arriving on the Estate and want to avoid lots of taxis turning up at the same time with single passengers, it is recommended for you to share a taxi.

The taxi share arrangement is with Happy Cabs and it takes ten minutes to get to Sharpham from the Totnes train station. Book your taxi in advance and let them know the time of arrival and leaving your phone number.

Happy Cabs will then meet you at the station with a board saying Sharpham Trust and the names of people to share the taxi (if others are arriving at the same time). You then divide the costs with your fellow travellers making it cheaper for you! For this Sharpham House retreats, to increase the chance of sharing a cab, it is recommended for you to take the 1.05 p.m train from London arriving at Totnes train station at 3.54 p.m.
