Hatha Yoga World believes yoga is for everyone. You will be welcomed into a safe, supportive space where we only ask that you engage yourself in the present moment with an open heart. You don’t have to touch your toes to do yoga! Yoga is the integration of mind, body, and spirit. Our course is designed to foster transformation and growth within you and around you. Much of the curriculum derives from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, which lays out a system approach to move toward greater physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being (and eventually enlightenment).
Known as the father of yoga, Patanjali wrote his famous collection of aphorisms, known collectively as the Yoga Sutras, roughly 2600 years ago. The 196 sutras (verses) are divided into four chapters. The first chapter describes yoga and the nature and means to achieve Samadhi. In the second chapter, Patanjali describes Kriya yoga and Ashtanga yoga (8 limbs). The third chapter focuses on siddhis, or supernatural powers. The final chapter describes the process of liberation and the reality of the transcended ego.
Patanjali laid a detailed path to enlightenment, known as the eight-limbed path or Ashtanga yoga. Due to the popularity of the Astanga style (Mysore) of Hatha yoga, this journey may also be referred to as Raja yoga.
