During this retreat, you can opt to stay in the Luxury Villa or the Mala Villa. Most rooms are shared occupancy so if you are traveling with a friend, please let Echo Flow Yoga know and they will get you connected in the same accommodation or else they will match you up with a new friend. A few single occupancy rooms are available at additional prices, so please do not hesitate to inquire with Echo Flow Yoga.

Luxury Villa

The beautiful villas each have their own unique earthen adobe design with high domed ceilings with smooth curves throughout. The villas have twin bed, air conditioner, refrigerator, and Wi-Fi.

Mala Villa

The Mala Villas are earthen structures mixed with brick work, large beds, cotton mosquito nets, and tastefully chosen furniture. Each have their own air conditioner, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and fans. There is a stunning spiral outdoor bathroom only steps away from the villa. While they are smaller than the luxury villas, they are no less amazing.

In yoga philosophy, it is said that god is Sat Chit Ananda which translates to existence consciousness bliss. Paramhansa Yogananda adds that Ananda is different from temporary joy that comes from sense pleasures such as eating, listening to music, and seeing beautiful things. It is also not a monotonous joy that is always the same.

Ananda refers to a joy that changes and dances itself in many ways to enthrall your mind and keep your attention occupied and interested forever. This adventure retreat is meant to be a retreat from the daily grind. A retreat away from whatever it is that is keeping you from fully expressing yourself as the light that you are.

This is a time for conscious individuals to come together on a journey of truth, of compassion, of self inquiry, and of selfless service. You will spend much of your time together in a community enjoying sunrise meditations, morning and evening asana practices, Thai Massage training, dharma talks, and various creative workshops. Aside from your daily yoga schedules, you will step outside your comfort zone and take adventures into the beauty of Northern Thailand during the days.

Echo Flow Yoga wants more than anything is for their students to leave this retreat with open eyes, open hearts, and open minds. Life is much too short to spend any time in the dark. You must awaken to all that is around you and it is up to you to choose what path you take. You can either fear change, challenge it, risk it, or embrace them fully. And at the same time, fundamentally change your perspective of the world around you as well as your participation with and in it.

Typical daily schedule

  • 06:30 Sunrise meditation and Yin and Yang yoga practice
  • 07:30 Breakfast, tea, and community
  • 09:00 Thai massage partner workshop
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 13:00 Activities off site (cave and hot spring excursions, steam bath, dancing, temple excursions, farming project, and karma yoga)
  • 18:30 Echo Flow Yoga encourages everyone to take a 30-minute break before dinner to write and journal over the daily theme or anything personal that they may want to reflect on
  • 19:00 Dinner at Mala Dhara
  • 20:30 Restorative yoga, Thai massage, or sometimes both together with satsang

Thai massage

Thai yoga massage has its roots in the ancient systems of yoga, Buddhism, and Ayurveda. It is called the lazy man’s yoga, this meditative flow weaves together energy, loving-kindness intention, and mindful techniques to dissolve blockages and alleviate stress. It combines assisted stretching, acupressure, and compression to improve flexibility and balance the body’s energy.

A Thai treatment is fully clothed, uses no oil, and is done on a mat on the floor. This bodywork is easily accessible and will make you even more popular with your friends.

During your off-site activities, enjoy cave and hot spring excursions, and a lovely herbal steam bath in the rice paddy field.

    Yoga Alliance RYT 200 (Yoga)

    Echo has two 200-hour RYT training certifications with a total of 400 RYT training, and hundreds of hours of teaching under her belt. Her background began with Hatha, Vinyasa, and Power yoga. It evolved to Yin, Restorative, Sivananda, and most recently training under Baron Baptiste mentors. Like progression, her practice evolves as she does but most of her teachings are quite fluid. She focuses on alignment, breath, and flow. She tries her best to create organic movement in her individual practice as well as the practice she shares with her community.

This retreat will take place at Mala Dhara Retreat in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Although you will be staying about 30 kilometers outside of the hustle of the old city, you will journey into the cultural center of Thailand as well. Nestled among the forested foothills, Chiang Mai is much older than it first appears.

During the city's medieval heyday, almost everything was made of teak hauled by elephant from the surrounding rain forest, with the notable exception of its towering Wat Chiang Man. The monasteries still remain, centered on ancient brick chedi or stupas in a remarkable range of shapes and styles, but the gaps between them have been filled in with modern Thai houses and traveler hotels.

Despite this, the historic center of Chiang Mai still feels overwhelmingly residential, more like a sleepy country town than a bustling capital.

You will be served vegan breakfast, lunch, and dinner with ingredients straight off the farm and onto your dining table. Your meals are prepared by an amazing local chef.

Massage

Massages are available on premise for 400 THB an hour.

Moped

It is important to note that Thailand is most easily accessible by moped, so it is in Echo Flow Yoga plans to have students rent mopeds on the days where you venture into the beautiful Thai mountains. Please contact Echo Flow Yoga if you are uncomfortable driving a moped, do not have an international driver's license, or want to learn to ride a moped but nervous to do so.

If you are interested in mopeding in Thailand, make sure to go by your local AAA and pick up an international driver's license for 25 USD. It is simple and all you need is a current driver's license. If you want to ride on a moped but do not want to drive, there will be many of the Echo Flow Yoga staff members that can be the drivers, so those who are not so comfortable driving can be passengers on the back. You can contact them if you have any issues with this.

Bangkok

If you have extra time, it is nice to stay a day or two in the capital city before hopping on a cheap and short flight to Chiang Mai. There are also cheap trains from Bangkok if you want to squeeze in another adventure. Echo Flow Yoga has detailed instructions on where to meet in Chiang Mai.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Echo Flow Yoga will pick you up from the airport. It is best to book your flight to arrive any time before 2:00 p.m. and depature any time after 5:00 p.m. Should you arrive or depart outside these time slots, Echo Flow Yoga are still happy to help but transportation will not be included.
