The Yoga Teacher Training Course, held in the beautiful Ardennes in Belgium, offers a unique opportunity to train with world-renowned teacher Mahayogi Gokulacandra, one of the most advanced practitioners of asanas today. The course is supervised by teacher-trainer, Ph.D. Janne Kontala and Emma Silventoinen, a specialist in prenatal and physiotherapeutic yoga.
We believe that yoga is much more than purely postural exercise. To sufficiently grasp the theoretical part - yoga philosophy, we fortified our 200h TTC with the 6-week online Introduction to Yoga philosophy module. Studying the Yoga Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita brings students in touch with sacred knowledge of the sages and unlocks a deeper inner wisdom.

For the holiday, you will be offerred two types of accommodation: Ashram-like style or Retreat Center.
During this training program, students will learn teaching skills for individual, hands-on adjustments and teach in a group. They will also improve one’s own practice to become pillars of learning for students and gain a basic understanding of prenatal yoga. To better facilitate students’ endeavors to grasp the wisdom of Yoga we went beyond the usual and included the 6-week online course on yoga philosophy into this teacher training program. This powerful combination of practical and spiritual techniques will stay with our students for a lifetime.
%We explore two different ways of practicing and teaching. Slow yoga is an approach wherein the focus is on doing exercises at a slow pace, paying attention to correct alignment and techniques. Here we will stay a longer time in each position, and spend more time building a strong basis. Dynamic flow yoga is a way of practicing in which movement is integrated with the position. This experience will be more aerobically challenging, and practitioners will stay in one position for a relatively shorter period of time. Ultimately, the style of practice is up to the practitioner’s personal preference. The same goes for teaching, and the course will give prospective teachers tools for teaching yoga in many different ways.
The course will prepare students to act in the role of yoga teachers. Developing the following knowledge and skills is the aim of the program:
To be entitled to register with the Yoga Alliance on the RYT 200 level, students need to demonstrate their skills and competence in the following areas:
1. Functional anatomy and physiology.
2. Understanding yoga philosophy (assessed at the end of the online module)
3. Personal practice. How to do asanas and breathing exercises with proper technique and ability to sustain the effort for the required time
4. Teaching skills. How to introduce an exercise, guide students in a group setting through an exercise, and give personalized instructions.
The uniqueness of our venue depends on the contribution of each resident, no matter how long or short she or he resides on its premises. To leave a positive imprint, both on a physical and energetic level, all of us are expected to follow the basic house rules. These guidelines prohibit the consumption of non-vegetarian foodstuffs and intoxicants (alcohol, cigarettes etc.) and frivolous behavior on the premises. Thank you for contributing to the venue’s purity and its ability to host truly transforming learning experiences.

Jani Jaatinen aka Mahayogi Gokulacandra is an internationally renowned teacher and the founder of Gokul Yoga. Since 2000, Jani has explored yoga with Janne Kontala, his life-long teacher, and friend. Jani has been practicing yoga for 15 years and his personal practice has become an integral part of his spiritual experience. Known for sharing his love and knowledge of yoga in a dynamic and generous manner, he receives invitations and returns regularly to teach workshops and retreats throughout Europe, Asia, USA, and South America. Gokul runs Yoga Alliance registered school in Borneo and Bali.
A Ph.D. in Religious Studies, 2016, Abo Akademi and the author of the book Inner Yoga, introduced to the Ashtanga-Vinyasa yoga tradition in 1992 under teachers Petri Räisänen and Derek Ireland. Janne did an additional five-year yoga training in ashrams in India and Finland, developing an interest in yoga philosophy and using sound in yoga (mantra meditation). He had undergone teacher training in two recognized schools (Sivananda and Iyengar). He currently teaches in Helsinki and Stockholm, educating both practitioners and teachers in the physical, meditational, and philosophical aspects of yoga.
Emma's yoga path started in 1999 to 2000 with Hatha and Ashtanga yoga. Slow yoga has become a daily habit since 2009 when she started practicing it with her teacher Janne Kontala. Emma also studied yoga therapy and has been teaching a wide range of yoga at several locations in Finland and abroad since 2008. Currently, in addition to her weekly lessons and courses, she trains with Janne Kontala slow yoga instructors in Helsinki, Stockholm, and Oulu. Key themes in her teaching are anatomy, body function, therapeutic perspective, and increased awareness and safety in practice.
Bhaktivedanta College is situated in the verdant Ardennes region of Belgium, in one of the most attractive and popular holiday areas, an hour’s drive south-east of the national capital. The College campus lies adjacent to the picturesque Radhadesh Chateau de Petite Somme, home to a thriving ISKCON community of bhakti yogis. It houses a gorgeous Radha-Krishna shrine, renowned for its high standards of puja (worship) and kirtan (musical meditation).The castle also offers other facilities, such as the Museum of Sacred Art, a vegetarian restaurant and cafeteria, a retreat centre, an exotic boutique, a promenade trail on the wooded estate, and a traditional bakery. Radhadesh is a vibrant community where many retreats, courses, and cultural festivals are held. With its scenic, secluded environment, the campus is ideal for study, research, meditation, and reflection.

Even our food vibrates with the rhythm of yoga philosophy! Bhagavad Gita, a yogic text, describes which food is in the mode of goodness (sattva) and how it should be prepared and honored. Such food nurtures the body and elevates the consciousness. We offer three vegetarian/vegan karma free meals per day. If you have special dietary requirements please to communicate it to the organizer when making a reservation.
If you wish to spend free days (one per week, usually Sunday) exploring Belgium and its attractions here are a few options:
Only 5 km from us the Adventure valley offers a multitude of pleasant and extreme activities: kayaking, climbing, mega zipline, speleo, rent a bike, escape rooms etc.
You can visit Dinant (40 km from us) an area which was already populated in Neolithic, Celtic, and Roman times. The city's landmark is the Collegiate Church of Notre Dame de Dinant (13th century) and the fortress Citadel of Dinant that was first built in the 11th century.
Even visiting Brussels for a day is possible. With a direct train from the nearby station, it takes less than 2 hours to reach Brussels.
There are two airports near Brussels: one is called Brussels National Airport (Zaventem) and is close to the city centre (13 kilometers from Brussels Central); the other is called Brussels South (Charleroi) and is situated 67 kilometers south from Brussels Central. Other options are Luxembourg and Cologne Bonn airports.
From any of the airports, you can either take a train to Liege, Marloie or Barvaux and arrange a pick-up from there, OR arrange a pick-up from the airport. Please contact us timely if you would like us to arrange your pick up.
Closest train stations to Radhadesh are Barvaux (10 minutes by car) or Marloie (25 minutes by car). Check the current train schedule on: www.b-rail.be. Please contact us well in advance if you would like us to arrange your pick up from the airport and/or train station.
All transfers from and to the airport/station can be arranged by the organizer.
