The sleeping area has a comfy queen-sized bed, and an additional double bed can be arranged in the living room if needed. Ceiling fans, a refrigerator, coffee and tea maker, phone, complementary snacks, TV, and DVD player.

This retreat will be one full week of complete immersion in a rural Costa Rican eco-retreat and wellness center. The yoga, meditation, and hike give an extra special experience in the natural surroundings in Costa Rica with fresh mountain breeze, wide acreage of open spaces splashed with natural elements and a wealthy wildlife.

This yoga retreat offers two daily yoga classes including guided and silent meditation in a magnificent open-air pavilion overlooking acres of green, lush vegetation of the Costa Rican mountains. You will also enjoy hiking adventures to catch the sunrise, watch the different bird species, and a slow paced afternoon waiting for the sunset.

La Paz Waterfalls and Poas Volcano

Enjoy one full day tour to two popular Costa Rica destinations: La Paz Waterfall gardens and Poas Volcano. La Paz Waterfall gardens give you the opportunity to enjoy lush tropical rainforests, flowing white rivers, beautiful waterfalls, and a variety of birds, butterflies, and flowers. Over three and a half kilometers of hiking trails allows you to take it all in at your own pace.

Then, a visit to Poas Volcano allows you to look into the heart of a live volcano. Although there is no lava flow, the steam arising from the crater and occasional geyser eruptions make this a spectacular sight. You will get a bird’s eye-view approximately 320 meters down into the powerful crater and the deck is practically at the rim of the crater.

Private local waterfall

A half day tour to explore the local waterfall, which is a private local waterfall, 15 minutes from the resort.

Turubari Park

A half day tour to Turubari Park, which is just 15 minutes from the resort. High above the rainforest, Turubari Park is an eco-adventure experience with rain forest tours, an aerial tram, and a tram ride. Turubari is known to have the best canopy tours in all of Costa Rica.

This professional consultation can lead you to a diet appropriate for your goals and can help you get started on detoxifying or making dietary changes. Consultation fee is not included in the retreat cost.

The goal is healthful, enjoyable dining. You will feel good about the attention to freshness and wholesome ingredients. Only healthful oils, (no trans-fats) real butter, and local honey are used in food preparation. Often, substituting honey or "dulce" (minimally processed sugar cane) for white sugar. Desserts are homemade and generally light, though the resort cooks also accommodate everybody’s love for chocolate!

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). Transfer from and to the airport is included. The organizer will pick you up from the airport.

Driving directions from San Jose International Airport (SJO)

  • From San Jose or Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO), there are two ways to go: the new highway and via Ciudad Colon.
  • The new highway cuts off about 15 minutes but does involve a dirt road for about 15 minutes of the journey.

Driving directions from the new highway

  • Once on Highway 27 toward Orotina, which is a toll road, go straight on this road, past the Atenas toll, past "Pan de Azucar", and exit at Escobal.
  • At the top of the exit, turn left, then right.
  • Once you are over the highway, onto the frontage road, follow this to its end which is about one point two kilometers and then, turn left.
  • Stay on this little dirt road for about 15 minutes, over a one lane bridge, until you eventually get to a town called San Pablo, with a town square on the left.
  • Go straight past the town about two to three blocks, past Bazaar Kinito, and you'll see Soda Francini on the right.
  • Turn left there, toward Puriscal, and go uphill.
  • AmaTierra will be on your left side about one kilometer up the road.

Directions from Ciudad Colon

  • Take the road from San Jose to Ciudad Colon.
  • Once you are in Ciudad Colon, look out for a sign saying "no hay paso" that means you're going on to a one way street.
  • Instead, turn right at the gas station.
  • Then left at the next street and you will see a green AmaTierra sign up high (on a car wash building) stating you are 35 kilometers from the hotel.
  • Go to the top of the hill thru the town of Cuidad Colon.
  • Turn left before the road turns to dirt, following paved road.
  • You will see a University of La Paz (Peace) sign on the left.
  • Make sure you follow the road out of town (do not turn right to the U. of Peace), but veer right after that sign and go towards Puriscal.
  • After about 20 minutes, you will arrive in Puriscal.
  • About 300 meters past the gas station on the right, you will see a sign for Turrubares / Orotina / Jaco.
  • Turn left there, in front of the Red Cross or ICE building.
  • Follow about three blocks past the church, and just after the stop light you will see a white sign that will say Turrubaris / Orotina / Jaco.
  • Then you must turn right after the sign and take this paved road past the cemeteries, continuing on to AmaTierra.
  • The hotel is located 17 kilometers or 20 minutes once you leave Puriscal.
  • It is located on the right side of the road, two kilometers before San Pablo, and you will see a green AmaTierra sign, 200 meters before to let you know you are close.
  • It is easy to find and the road is paved the entire way. Simply look for the living green fence and wooden gate. If the gate is closed, just honk and the guard will open the gate.
