Yoga is known for having health benefits for people of all ages but it is not often that you hear of a 12-year-old who has been so dedicated to yoga that she has managed to become the youngest ever certified female yoga instructor in America!
Jaysea Devoe is the 12-year-old girl who has completed her 200 hours of teacher training and is now certified to teach her own yoga classes in the US. While she teaches her family and friends at home she is also now taking classes for adults and has said that she intends to fit in some classes designed for families in between her school lessons. According to the Daily Mail, she said: “I felt like I wanted to do this for such a long time because I love teaching so much.”

Jaysea and her brothers all only attend school three days a week because their parents wanted them to be able to dedicate more time to be able to do other activities in their lives which has meant that not only is 12-year-old Jaysea a qualified yoga instructor but her 15-year-old brother is also a spear fisherman and a surfer who teaches and has his own sponsors.
Rick, the father of the children said: “They only go to school three days a week and we told them “You have to figure out what you want to do and you’ve got four days to do it”. He added: “And hopefully by the time you graduate high school, you have a career path chosen.”

While the family may be alternative in their thinking, even they were surprised that Jaysea had chosen to dedicate 200 hours of her time to becoming a yoga teacher. “We were like “Woah”, said Rick. “She was just adamant about doing all the homework and never wanting to miss a class. We were just really thrilled and very honored that they allowed her to do it and that she pulled it off.”
For Jaysea, her favorite pose is the Sun Salutation: “I like turning on the music and flowing with it - it is called sun salutation…that is probably one of my favorite parts.” She is not worried about dealing with any possible problems that may occur during a class, as in her own words: “We have learned so many variations of all the poses to do if people have injuries or to prevent injuries.”
For her father, it was no real surprise that she chose yoga as her path. He said: “Jaysea is just really Zen-y. She’s got this spiritual side to her. She has always been intrigued by the moon and nature.”
