If you are new to yoga, there is a fair good chance to get lost in a variety of different yoga styles. Of course, you can start with basic positions for beginners, but the best results come to the most assertive and consistent people, so you’d better choose a certain yoga style and practice on a regular basis. That’s why I’ve prepared some great information to help you get started. There are four major yoga styles, and each of them is associated with unique health benefits:
- Hatha yoga. The first and probably most popular style can be described as a combination of postures and breathing techniques known as asanas and pranayama. This style is usually considered a preparatory stage for higher meditation.
- Vinyasa yoga. The word ‘vinyasa’ stands for ‘arranging something in a special way.’ When practices Vinyasa yoga, students should focus on coordinating their movements with breathing and flowing from one pose to another.
- Kundalini yoga. This style is a balanced combination of both spiritual and physical. It incorporates dynamic breathing, active movement, meditation, and mantras. Experts claim that Kundalini yoga works best for those whose goal is to increase consciousness and strengthen physical vitality.
- Bikram yoga. This yoga style is based on a combination of 26 postures and two breathing exercises. The traditional Bikram yoga class lasts for 90 minutes. It might be hard for newbies to jump-start into the world of yoga with Bikram yoga, but it’s very individual.
