A typical day consisted of a sunrise walk on the beach, a morning yoga session on the yoga deck overlooking the beautiful black sand beach of Playa Hermosa, a personalized surf lesson adjusted to my skill level as I advanced each day, relaxing down time for naps or reading, a daily excursion (zip-line canopy tour, shopping in Jaco, scenic drive, and others), unforgettable sunsets, and evening drinks with a mix of surfers and staffers that are regulars at Las Olas.

While the rustic accommodation and laidback attitude may not be for everyone, I felt they served a reminder that this trip was more about the experiences and the people—the important things in life!—and less about the thread count of the sheets or worrying about schedules and appointments.

The Las Olas staff gave me the VIP treatment all week, catering the yoga, meals, and planned activities to fit my desires. Jason, Rafael, and the other friends I made while at Las Olas became my family for the week and made me feel safe, special, and accepted into their pura vida culture. It wouldn’t have been the same without them. And yes, I was the girl crying when Rafael dropped me off at San Jose International on my final day!

All in all, I would give my experience 4.5 out of 5 stars—the whole trip was simply unforgettable. I'm already planning for my next trip to Las Olas and can't wait to bring my friends and family to experience their amazing hospitality once again!
