They are Jennipher, Erin and Kristen; three women who, through their website Fit Bottomed Girls, are inspiring everyone to embrace our inner beauty, by taking care of ourselves without having to ‘suffer’ to do so. They suggest to be fit and healthy by eating what we like and doing workouts we love. Doesn’t it sound like yoga? Well, Jennipher and her partners think so; they do yoga on a regular basis and consider it an important part of their daily routine.
Fortunately for us, she used some of her time to share with us her experience and talk about how the journey of Fit Bottomed Girls has evolved. Read on to find out more, you’ll be surprised with the title of the book they wrote:
1. How did the name Fit Bottomed come about?
It's funny, Erin and I wanted a name that was fresh, funny and got people's attention and showed we didn't take ourselves too seriously. We thought for weeks and couldn't come up with anything that felt totally right. Then, one night I was at a Kansas City Royals' game with my husband, and Fit Bottomed Girls – as a play on the Queen song "Fat Bottomed Girls" came to me. I texted Erin right away and we both just knew that it was perfect.
2. What is your take on fitness and well-being and how is it different (or the same) from other approaches of fitness?
We believe that fit bottoms come in all shapes and sizes – and that dieting is a four-letter word. We don't think there's one single way to be fit and healthy, instead it's the way that works for you and that you love that's perfect. We're definitely not about deprivation (wrote a whole book on why diets don't work!) or workouts that kill you. That positive body image approach to well-being is becoming more mainstream, but it's not quite the norm. We still have lots more work to do!
3. What exactly is the Fit Bottomed lifestyle?
Do workouts you love; eat foods you love. Everything in moderation. Know that you're more than the number on the scale. And make healthy decisions because you deserve to feel awesome.
4. Do you do yoga? How has it made an impact in your life?
All three of us – myself, Erin and Kristen – do yoga pretty regularly. Besides increasing our flexibility, I think I can say for all of us that yoga has become an essential part of our usual workout routines because it just feels so good. It reduces stress, helps us connect to what matters and allows us to just tune in and be. And that's beautiful! In fact, over the past year or so, we've fallen so in love with yoga and meditation that we added a new site, Fit Bottomed Zen, to cover more in that realm.
5. We always hear that yoga is about aligning body, mind and soul. What are your thoughts on that?
Couldn't agree more. Yoga can physically be a great workout, but we love it because it's so much more than that. It's one of our favorite forms of stress relief.
6. If you could choose a destination to retreat to so that you can focus on your self, where would it be and why?
Somewhere warm ... with a beach! This spring has been rainy and cold. I'd love some extra sunshine!
