April means shoulder season in Italy. The combination of relatively good weather and affordable prices, make the country very appealing for travelers.

Easter celebrations in Italy are gorgeous. They include a Good Friday procession. It is believed that the oldest such procession takes place in Chieti in the Abruzzo region. In other places, beautiful torchlight processions are held.

Did you know that Italy is a wonderful destination if you like to dance the Argentine tango? April 29 marks International Dance Day so why not attend a tango workshop or milonga while you are here.

Weather is far from predictable in April but you can expect more sunny days than rainy ones. As you travel south the temperatures increase. While Milan has an average high of 17C, in Rome and Naples it’s 18C.

Now it’s a great time to explore Venice or check out Rome’s Colosseum. Further south, the temperatures are just perfect to plan a day visiting the ruins of Pompeii or hiking Vesuvius.

You may not immediately think “yoga retreat” when you think about Italy, but yoga is popular in the country. There are retreats held all over Italy, so the choice would be which part of Italy you want to visit. If you fancy warmer weather, then head to Puglia and its gorgeous Alberobello.

The UK is a year-round destination but if you want to enjoy a relatively crowds free country, plan your trip in April.

Cities such as London or Edinburgh can be very busy and expensive during the summer. But once Easter is over, you can plan a vacation at an affordable price. Sure, you might need a scarf and a jacket for the morning and evening walks, but you won’t be scrambling over too many tourists to take that perfect selfie. And don’t forget to venture out into the countryside to see beautiful wildflowers in bloom.

The downside for April travel though? The weather is notoriously unpredictable. But the airfare is affordable, so London or Manchester can be great choices for a city break. A plus? Many sites that were closed over the winter open by late April or even for Easter.

Don’t give up the layers as the average high temperature is only 13.7C in London, 13C in Manchester, and 11.6C in Edinburgh.

Head to Stratford-upon-Avon on April 23 to mark Shakespeare’s Birthday. Or plan a visit to Stonehenge. Plan for a long week in London and don’t forget to check out the changing of the guards in front of Buckingham Palace and stroll through the city’s parks. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the British Museum offers the perfect place to hide from the rain and enjoy the exhibits.

Yoga retreats are available throughout the country so it’s just a matter of choosing your preferred area. If you want to mix yoga with stand-up paddling, go for a retreat in North Wales and if you prefer to hike, choose East Sussex.
