If you want to know first-hand what it feels like to be on a yoga retreat, well, wait no further! Earlier this year, Begoña González Galarza went on a week of Hatha yoga retreat with Yoga Paros, a yoga studio located in Greece.
Hailing all the way from Madrid, Spain, Begoña spent seven days in Greece 'tasting' her first yoga classes. Her retreat package took her to the beautiful island of Paros, a popular tourist spot known for its beaches with crystal clear waters, breathtaking natural beauty, and many traditional villages.

"Paros is a paradise," she said. "[Yoga Paros]'s studio is located in a very local and not too busy village called Aliki, a great place to get to know Greece, its real culture, its food, its people…"

Apart from the lovely location, Begoña also enjoyed the flexibility of her accommodation options. There are more than ten places to choose from, and she had the opportunity to stay at one that was most suitable for her.
"I stayed in Aphrodite Hotel, a family run hotel very close to the studio," she said. "I had a good time there."

Above all, however, Begoña credited Oona Giesen, the owner of Yoga Paros and a well-known yogini, for her amazing yoga experience.

"Oona's way of teaching and knowledge of yoga [are] very gentle and very personalized," said Begoña, who only had praises for her yoga teacher for that week. "Some days we had four hours of yoga but it seemed like an hour!"

It isn't a surprise. Oona, who began studying Iyengar yoga when she was eight, is very passionate about her practice. To the well-known yogini, yoga is a way to get to know your body, to know its weak spots, to make it better—which is why she prefers to teach small groups: to adapt every pose for every individual. It is with this kind of thinking that she approaches her yoga classes and retreats, leaving all of her students satisfied and impressed.
Begoña, of course, was one of them. This was her first contact with yoga, and she enjoyed it very much.
"I was very lucky to have this experience with Oona, with her almost 40 years of yoga experience," she declared. "My rate is 10 out of 10!"
