NamKhan Project & Ecolodge's retreats are often organized around traditional Lao or yogic celebrations to provide guests with an authentic cultural experience. This particular retreat will take place during a very auspicious time, Lao New Year or Pi Mai as they say in Laos. Luang Prabang is the best place to experience Pi Mai with many people gathering to make merit and bless each other by throwing water over friends and strangers. Lao New Year takes place over 3 days from 14-16 April and also signifies the start of the monsoon, the changeover in seasons which is the perfect time to perform cleanses and detox.
All yoga and Qi Kong classes take place on an outdoor yoga platform which offers amazing views of the Nam Khan River, classes are taught in English with fully qualified teachers.
An organic farm supplies fruit and vegetables to their farm-to-table restaurant located in the heart of the ecolodge so you can guarantee the plant-based menu will be fresh, healthy, and balanced.
During Pi Mai Laos, there are many activities going on in the city from an elephant parade on 13th April to watering the Buddha image ceremony and processions on the Main Street.
On this half-day tour, you will prepare a picnic and take you to the starting point at Baan Pik-Noy. Tour guides will safely lead you down the river to the picnic point where you will disembark, enjoy your lunch on the river banks and then continue your tour down the river until you reach the endpoint of the island river beach.
Please note if this excursion is not possible due to the river levels or there are a large number of guests, an excursion to Kuang Si with a picnic and swimming in the waterfall will take its place instead.
The retreat is located upon the Nam Khan River, just 7 kilometers outside of the ancient capital of Luang Prabang in northern Laos, where the Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers meet. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage city, is a popular destination for travelers and those looking to experience the natural wonders and traditional culture of Laos.
Luang Prabang is well known for its many Buddhist temples where early morning almsgiving still takes place with many locals and tourists waking up early to prepare offerings for the monks. It is a beautifully picturesque old city that displays a mixture of Lao and French-style buildings due to the French colonization between 1893 and 1953.
The morning markets display a colorful array of fruit and vegetables and whilst the night market which take-over the main street from 5 p.m. exhibits beautifully handcrafted items and traditional Lao clothing.
Laos is a beautiful place to visit all year round and has two distinct seasons, the rainy season May to October, and the dry season November to April. November to February is cooler and March and April are hot seasons.
NamKhan Project & Ecolodge is extremely fortunate to have Kuang Si Waterfall, probably the most picturesque waterfall in Laos located just 40 minutes away, and Mount Phousi on the Main Street which gives exceptional views and sunsets.
The natural relaxed way of life in Laos is something Namkhan Ecolodge likes to promote along with nourishing your body with fresh organic produce which you can see being grown on the farm. Namkhan Project supports local people by developing and teaching new skills, practicing the English language, and providing employment.
