Join Namaste Yoga Safari Namibia for 7 days of yoga and meditation flows along the Okavango Delta while on Safari. Botswana is not only famous for its wildlife and stunning beauty, but one of the greatest adventure safari destinations in Africa. It is also home to the largest population of elephants and wild dogs anywhere in the world. The yoga sessions and most activities promote a calming and meditative state. You will feel as if time is standing still, where living in the present moment is the only option. Your body is relaxed and your mind is in a state of absolute peace. You will certainly be renewed after each yoga session and you can expect plenty of wildlife, relaxation, and unique activities specific to the area.
The lodges will not be used exclusively for the yoga retreat, there will be other guests around. However, yoga sessions will be held when most guests are out on their daily activities. There are 2 room options available at both lodges; private luxury room for 1 person and the shared luxury room for 2 persons shared with either your partner, friend, or family member.
Staying at Mopiri Camp offers a water experience right on your doorstep, with boating safaris, mokoro trips, bush walks, sunset cruises, star gazing, and nights out at fly camp in the heart of the Delta. Game viewing is mainly aquatic - Hippos, Crocodiles, incredible birdlife, Elephant, Red Lechwe, and Sitatunga, to name a few.
Spacious tents set on the banks of Weboro Lagoon offer panoramic views from their private decks. Long winding boardwalks between the main area and the tents offer privacy, and the opportunity for guests to stretch their legs. The tents are light and airy and have en-suite bathrooms with large rain showers.
Staying at Nokanyana offers a game-rich experience. Wildlife moves right through camp. Days can be spent out on short morning and afternoon game drives, or full days out exploring areas further afield. With seven luxury rooms and three family suites set on the banks of the Khwai River, Nokanyana offers fantastic game viewing.
Rooms have been built to ensure that guests have a panoramic view of the bush around them. All have inside and outside showers, so you don’t have to miss a thing with large rain showers.
Namaste Yoga Safari Namibia has teamed up with Roots & Journeys, a circuit of lodges with a strong passion for the country, the people, and conservation. The retreat takes place at 2 of their luxurious lodges, Mopiri and Nokanyana, offering you the best of both worlds in the Delta.
The Okavango Delta is a unique ecosystem with both a permanent and seasonal home to a wide variety of superb wildlife, a large concentration of birds and lush vegetation. Not only will you experience the remoteness from land, but also from above with 3 short scenic flights that are included. A flight from Maun is mandatory to reach most of the Delta’s luxury camps and lodges due to the aquatic nature, and there is no better way to take in the remoteness of this region. It is common to spot large herds of elephant, hippo, buffalo, wildebeest, lechwe, impala and zebra from a flight like this. It’s a must when visiting Botswana and what a way to start this incredible 7-day journey.
Morning sessions will be a combination of breathing techniques, vinyasa flows and guided meditation - finding and creating space within, as the world along the Delta awakes. The therapeutic moves will allow you to go inward and become familiar with your own body as you link your breath and connect with nature. You will certainly be renewed after each session and ready for what the day has in store for you - plenty of wildlife, relaxation and unique activities specific to the area. You will find yourself back in nature for an afternoon yin or Hatha practice while listening to the sounds of hippos along the river, and bird life as night approaches. Here, you will feel as if time is standing still, where living in the present moment is the only option. Your body relaxed, your mind in a state of absolute peace. The practice promotes a calming and meditative state that will benefit beginners to experienced students.
Please note there are 3 retreat dates in Botswana for 2021 and each retreat there will be a different yoga teacher. March: Marcel Vosloo and Jill Schrader. September: Caroline Pajewski. November: Marcel Vosloo
On arrival at Maun Airport, you will be met by your yoga teacher and a representative of Roots & Journeys. From here, you will make your way to Mopiri Camp with a small aircraft. The flight to the camp is a short scenic flight over the Delta, an amazing experience on its own already.
Once at Mopiri, settle into your luxurious accommodation before a much needed meditation session as the sun sets over the Delta.
Dinner will be a healthy 3-course meal under the stars, followed by a one on one individual session with your yoga teacher.
This morning you will have one last beautiful yoga flow, taking in the natural beauty and energy of the Delta. After breakfast, you will fly back to Maun in time for your departure flight back home. The short scenic flight over the Delta is the perfect chance to reflect on the natural beauty and self-reflection you have encountered over the last week.
Marcel found her love for yoga over a decade ago while sailing and diving all corners of the World. Even though taught in Ashtanga yoga, she has developed a deep understanding of more mindful and calm practices out in nature, connecting with the energy that surrounds her, which she also applies to her retreats. "Our retreat groups are small allowing personal attention. It is a fun and non-competitive environment, making it a peaceful healing space for anyone joining. It’s about you and connecting with yourself and nature, being mindful and having an adventure of a lifetime".
Caroline has been teaching yoga since 2005 and in 2009 she opened Recline Yoga Studio in Swakopmund, Namibia where she also hosts YTT's. Her love of yoga started in 1994 and she’s been practicing ever since, turning her passion into her work.Training in South of India in the art of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, then in 2011 Vinyasa training which transformed her yoga practice. 2013 Jnana training in Thailand which has made her grow even more in her own yoga practice. She hosts retreats in Kenya and Namibia.
