This retreat takes place at two luxurious lodges, Mopiri and Nokanyana offering you the best of both worlds in the delta - an incredible opportunity to connect deeply with the elements and energy of nature as we move from the wetland to the drylands. Not only will you experience the remoteness from land, but also from above with three scenic flights that are included in the costs.
The lodges will not be used exclusively for the yoga retreat, there will be other guests around. However, yoga sessions will be held when most guests are out on their daily activities. There are 2 room options available at both lodges; private luxury room for 1 person, and the shared luxury room for 2 persons shared with either your partner, friend, or family member.
Staying at Mopiri Camp offers a water experience right on your doorstep, with boating safaris, mokoro trips, bush walks, sunset cruises, star gazing, and nights out at fly camp in the heart of the Delta. Game viewing is mainly aquatic - Hippos, Crocodiles, incredible birdlife, Elephant, Red Lechwe, and Sitatunga, to name a few.
Staying at Nokanyana offers a game-rich experience. Wildlife moves right through camp. Days can be spent out on short morning and afternoon game drives, or full days out exploring areas further afield. There are no set timings and the team will work out an itinerary to suit you.
Join Marcel and Jill, an Australian gong master and yoga teacher, for 7 days of yoga flows along the Okavango Delta. Botswana is not only famous for its wildlife and stunning beauty, but one of the greatest adventure Safari destinations in Africa. It is also home to the largest population of elephants and wild dogs anywhere in the world.
They have teamed up with Roots & Journeys, a circuit of lodges with a strong passion for the country, the people, and conservation. The retreat takes place at 2 of their luxurious lodges, Mopiri and Nokanyana, offering you the best of both worlds in the Delta. The Okavango Delta is a unique ecosystem with both a permanent and seasonal home to a wide variety of superb wildlife, a large concentration of birds and lush vegetation. Not only will you experience the remoteness from land, but also from above with 3 included scenic flights.
Morning yoga sessions by Marcel will be slow Vinyasa flows, finding and creating space within, as the world along the Delta awakes. Not only will the picture-perfect settings give you the feeling as though time is standing still, but you will certainly be renewed after each session and ready for what the day has in store for us – plenty of wildlife, relaxation and unique activities specific to the area.
You will find yourself back in nature for an afternoon yoga practice with Jill while listening to the sounds of hippos along the river and bird life as night approaches. Over the last 30 years, Jill taught and trained with amazing teachers in several styles of yoga - Hatha, Radiant light and Kundalini is just a few to mention, including mantra, yoga therapy, shamanic healing, sound healing and Trauma Aware yoga. Her yoga sessions encourage movement of energy for endurance and healing, using pranayama and movement. Jill teaches from an inner perspective, bringing awareness back into the body and feeling what is. - “My yoga is focused on inner awareness, opening the heart, refining the relationship to self, bringing the mind to the present, sitting in meditation connected to the loving, unchanging eternal part of Self, I often use mantra for meditations. I am very traditional in my yoga teachings and beliefs.”
Please note Jill will only be teaching along with Marcel on the March retreat. Only Marcel will be teaching during November's retreat.
The chefs will prepare healthy vegan/vegetarian meals and you can also expect to have lunch in various locations around the camps.
On arrival at Maun Airport you will be met by a representative then make your way to Mopiri Camp with a small aircraft. The flight to the camp is a scenic flight over the Delta, an amazing experience on its own already - what a way to start this incredible journey.
On arrival to Mopiri you will be welcomed and briefed on your yoga retreat. Settle into your luxurious accommodation before a much-needed yoga and meditation session as the sun sets over the Delta. Welcoming dinner and one-on-one individual session to follow.
This morning, you will have one last beautiful yoga flow, taking in the natural beauty and energy of the delta. After breakfast, you will fly back to Maun in time for your departure flight back home. The scenic flight over the delta is the perfect chance to reflect on the natural beauty and self-reflection you have encountered over the last week.
