Energy work and vision quests on this Namibian journey

Cat’s known for her lightness, humor, presence, multi-dimensional intelligence, sensitivity, and depth. You will get personalized attention in all of our practices. Cat’s gift is being able to read your needs. This is your opportunity to understand your body more and refine your alignment, and you will leave the retreat standing taller, moving more fluidly, and embodying yourself on a whole new level. All levels of experience are welcome; with such an intimate group, you will learn and receive a lot. Cat’s known to teach fun, engaging, and empowering practices that will transform you physically, mentally, and emotionally. With her extensive training in yoga, Gyrotonic, pilates, dance, Feldenkrais, somatics, and yoga therapy, she offers many possibilities that will empower you to enjoy being in your body even more. Her high-sense awareness makes her sense your energy and offers energetic adjustments and healing as needed. You will practice dynamic, inspiring, deeply nurturing, and restorative practices to reach a level of rest and self-healing you didn’t know existed.

Energy work and vision quests with Cat Kabira

You will practice meditation to help you connect to yourself and refine your ability to focus and ground. You will receive energy work in our group energy healing. You will also learn self-healing techniques that will be game-changing practices you can take home with you and use daily. You will focus on grounding, keeping your energy flow strong, working with individual chakras, and how to respect and master your intuition. You will also refine your awareness of your boundaries and what space you need to thrive. Practicing energy work in such a sacred and powerful land will level your senses and experience.

Vision quests are Yoga Nidra+, which helps you drop into the theta state, connect to your subconscious, rewire negative beliefs, and access your own wisdom, power, and self-healing state. This is also a great way to reclaim your creativity and imagination. Students love it because they feel like they're starting as a kid in storytime and then going on a very deep journey where they can safely rewire deep-seated beliefs and transform old pain.

All yoga, meditation, and healing sessions will be out in nature amongst the most magnificent scenery, sunsets, and sunrises.

Sample itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek

On arrival at Windhoek International Airport, you will be met and your Namibian adventure begins.

The first stop is Windhoek, Namibia’s Capital. After a city tour, you will have dinner and a discussion about what the next 10 days have in store for everyone.

  • Accommodation: The Weinberg
  • Includes: DBB (welcoming dinner, bed and breakfast) and city tour

Day 2 and 3: Namibrand Nature Reserve

Day 2

Today, you will head south to the NamibRand Nature Reserve. The drive is about 6 hours along scenic landscapes.

Arrival at the Tok Tokkie Trails base by 14h00, where their friendly team will welcome you with some refreshments. You can refill water and pack your small daypack for the personal items you would like to take along on the walk. Your luggage will be transferred to the overnight camp by vehicle.

The trails starts with a visit of the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET), a non-profit, donor-sponsored trust, that aims to develop environmentally responsible citizens of Namibia.

A short scenic drive takes you to the starting point of the Tok Tokkie Trail. Today, you will walk over a slope strewn with mysterious “fairy circles” and over rolling sand dunes to the first overnight camp. The dunes are not the massive ones encountered at Sossusvlei, but small, vegetated dunes that have a unique beauty of their own.

At camp, take in the the magnificent scenery while immersing yourself in yoga, breathing in the freshness of nature… This will be an unforgettable first night sleeping under the stars. If the sky is clear and moonless, you will quickly understand why NamibRand Nature Reserve is one of the few International Dark Sky Reserves in the world.

  • Walking time: 1 to 2 hrs, sleeping out in the open on stretcher beds.

Day 3

Early morning tea or coffee is served before sunrise yoga, followed by a light breakfast so that you can set off in the cool of the early morning. The highlights of the walk are the breathtaking views of the dunes and plains as well as the “coming alive” of the desert as the guide allows you to feel, smell, taste and see the oldest living desert in the world. The “morning news”, as written in the sand is always fascinating and with some luck and the guide’s trained eyes, you may spot some of the desert specials (golden mole, dancing white lady, barking gecko, dune lark, flightless wasp just to name a few). You walk over a mountain saddle before descending gently to a dry riverbed.

During the course of the day your guide will explain some wonders of the Namib to you - how the fascinating desert flora survives, how insect and reptile life adapts to the harsh environment and how mammals can survive here without water. Birding is surprisingly good and you may be lucky enough to see one of Namib endemics, the dune lark. Larger animals you might come across include bat-eared fox, oryx, springbok and ostrich. As you realize that your survival depends on the water that has been deposited for you, this will probably heighten your admiration for the plants and animals that dwell here.

For lunch, you will stop at a shady spot where you can enjoy the treats prepared by the chefs and fill up your water bottles. There is plenty of time to relax, have a siesta and reflect on all you have seen. As the heat recedes you start walking again up and over the dunes to your second overnight spot. The scene in front of you is a sea of endless dunes and “fairy circles” against a backdrop of magnificent mountain scenery. Photography is spectacular! The shadows on the dunes create an ever-changing palette of colors shortly before sunset. Sundowner yoga and a delicious dinner after a long and enjoyable day. You might just hear some barking geckos, owls or just deafening silence.

  • Walking time: morning - 4 to 4.5 hours; afternoon - 2 to 2.5 hours. Sleeping out in the open on stretcher beds.
  • Accommodation: Tok Tok Tokkie Trails Trails
  • Includes: 2 nights accommodation under the stars, all meals and hiking

Day 4: Namib Naukluft Park - Sossusvlei/Deadvlei/Sesriem Canyon

Once again you are woken in the soft light shortly before sunrise. Yoga, coffee and breakfast before you set off through the dune field. The soft and rolling dunes are interspersed by camel thorn trees, which provide welcome shade for a rest. Today’s walk is easy and you arrive at Tok Tokkie farmhouse at approximately 11:30.

  • Walking time: morning - 3 to 3.5 hours

Please note: sometimes the trail is walked the other way around and the landscape will be seen at different times of the day than described above.

Once back at the main camp, you will head to the next destination - Sossusvlei. Relax at the pool for the rest of the afternoon. Tomorrow morning calls for an early start to visit Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. A visit to Namibia is not complete without experiencing this incredible white salt pan and the red dunes that make it so popular. After all, these monstrous dunes are some of the largest that can be found in the world, reaching heights of 400 meters. You will explore this area and perhaps even climb one of the highest dunes in the world if you are up for it. Breathe and simply take in the peacefulness of all that surrounds you. Dinners will be around the campfire.

  • Accommodation: Desert Homestead Lodge
  • Includes: DBB (dinner, bed and breakfast) and Sossusvlei excursions

Retreat location

Namibia - a country that feeds your soul

Its majestic landscapes and natural environment offer a unique flora and fauna population with an abundant variety of wildlife. Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Angola, Zambia, Botswana, and South Africa, it has something exciting to do for everyone. Whether you love animals, birds, nature, the ocean, the desert, or adventurous activities, Namibia has it all. Can you imagine doing yoga amongst these landscapes?

Namib Naukluft Park - Sossusvlei

The famous rolling sand dunes of the Namib Desert surround the marvel known as Sossusvlei which is situated in the Namib Naukluft National Park, one of the largest conservation areas in Africa. A visit to Namibia is not complete without experiencing this incredible white salt pan and the red dunes that make it so popular. After all, these monstrous dunes are some of the largest that can be found in the world, reaching heights of 400 meters.

In some ways, the beauty of this area is eerie as you can almost hear whispers on the wind that softly kisses the crescents of the dunes. What makes it so overwhelming is the knowledge that the sheer size of the dunes was created by wind over millions of years. Ever changing and growing, the dunes remain one of the most amazing phenomena you will ever get to see.

Despite the fact that this area is dry and gets extremely hot during the peak in summer months, there is a large amount of animal life, bird life, and plant life that still thrives here. Incredibly adapted to withstand the harsh environment they call home.

Swakopmund

Known for its laid-back feel along the Skeleton Coast, with palm trees, sandy beaches, good restaurants, and gift shops, this town is the perfect stopover between Etosha and Sossusvlei. Established by German colonists in 1892, with German Colonial Architecture, a small part of the population is still German-speaking. Here, where the desert meets the ocean, you can relax or join one of the many adventurous activities from quad biking, fat wheel biking, ocean safaris, dune boarding, surfing, hot-air ballooning, or scenic flights.

The Skeleton Coast got its name from the whale and seal bones found on shore from the past whaling industry, although in more recent years, received the name from sailors who feared sailing the coast due to the epic winds and unpredictable changing sandbanks that resulted in a number of shipwrecks, of which some of the oldest can still be seen today. Although it may sound like an area with an eerie past, it is indeed an area diverse and full of animal life. The coast itself is inhabited by millions of Cape Fur Seals, of which the largest colony, calls Cape Cross their breeding ground.

Spitzkoppe

It is one of the locations to go to during the tour.

Etosha National Park

You will witness the park's vibrant wildlife and vast, dramatic landscapes.
