Chettuva in the Thrissur district of Kerala is a backwater destination. Houseboat cruise in the backwater is a favorite choice of tourists to Chettuva. The backwater is dotted with small islets. Dense mangrove thickets on the banks enhance their beauty. Chettuva has a prominent place in the colonial history of Kerala. The Dutch and the British had in turn camped here. The backwater of Chettuva is much greener and calm than famous Alleppey, which is crowded with tourist boats.

It consists of the tea estate owned by Tata Tea. Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of Malakkappara area. Along the route if you are lucky you may end up seeing some good wildlife.
A sliver of a state in India's deep south, Kerala is shaped by its landscape - almost 600km of glorious Arabian Sea coast and beaches, a languid network of backwaters and the spice and tea-covered hills of the Western Ghats. As relaxing as an Ayurvedic massage, just setting foot on this swathe of soul-quenching green will slow your stride to a blissed-out amble. Kerala is a world away from the frenzy of elsewhere, as if India had passed through the Looking Glass and become an altogether more laid-back place.
