Program

Is this retreat for you?

This retreat takes place in the magical landscapes of rural Georgia - under the mighty Caucasus mountains, in between the glaciers, above deep river canyons, on blooming meadows and hills dotted with centuries-old stone towers and houses. Latali Village is located in Upper Svaneti region, at the very foothills of Caucasus mountain. The village is 7 km away from Mestia, the biggest town in the region.

It is a perfect place to turn inwards and dedicate your time to your yoga and meditation practice. The emphasis of this retreat is to investigate how we can bring our yoga off the mat and make the ancient teachings more relevant for your everyday lives.

With no distractions in sight, it will be an easy task to have time for yourself, contemplate and take care of your needs. You will visit a remote fairy-tale like the village of Ushgui - the highest continuously inhabited settlement in Asia Minor. We will hike up the mountain to admire the 360 degrees panoramic view of the Caucasus. You will ride horses in the countryside.

And on quiet restful days, you can enjoy the breathtaking setting of the yoga center - perched on top of the vertical cliffs of a river canyon, tucked away between green hills with the snowy peaks at arm's reach.

Yoga and meditation

On most days, you will practice two times a day. The center features a spacious yoga dome with a panoramic view of the surroundings. Marija teaches rather slow Hatha yoga, with a lot of emphasis on the proper alignment of the body, breath, and meditative state of mind. Apart from asana (posture), you will practice pranayama (yogic breathing), as well as meditation in each class.

The classes are organized as workshops, during which we will explore different physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the practice.

Marija believes that yoga makes sense only if we apply it to our everyday lives, that is why during the retreats we practice many other aspects of mindful living: mindful eating, periods of silence, walking meditation, sharing sessions in which we discuss how what we learn in a yoga class can help us lead more conscious and fulfilling life.

The retreat is suitable for all levels. Beginners will have the chance to get the taste of yoga and build a strong foundation for their yogic journey. More experienced yogis will deepen their understanding and get some inspiration to further develop their practice.

Day by day

Mornings are reserved for your practice, which will usually take around 2 hours. You'll have an early start, and after the class, you will have a freshly prepared brunch.

You will have a chance to visit a remote village of Ushgui, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the highest continuously inhabited settlement in Asia Minor. We will take a half a day hike to Mkheri to admire the 360 degrees panoramic view of the Caucasus. Horse riding can be organized upon request.

The biggest town of Svaneti region, Mestia, is 7 km away, which makes it a nice day trip destination - good opportunity to explore the unique Svaneti towers or to visit the local museum or hike to Chalaadi glacier.

Some afternoons will be left without additional activities, offering you a chance to turn inwards and dedicate time to yourself.

Evenings will see you back in the center, having another shorter class (1-1.5 hours) before delicious home cooked dinner around 7.00 p.m. After dinner, there is free time for everybody. All activities and classes are optional, and everybody is welcome to skip any of them any time they feel like it.
