Seasonal information

The weather is always perfect somewhere at all times of year. Moroccos weather changes very quickly once you head inland or away from the Atlas. You can expect soaring summer temperatures of 40 degrees during the summer and sometimes even more in the desert regions but much less once on the coast and near the Atlas mountains where its usually no more 25 degrees. Essaouira has a temperate Morocco climate and all year round with temperatures of between 18-25 degrees. Moroccos winter climate ensures that from November to March locations close to the High Atlas such as the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge will feel much cooler. All the hotels have air conditioning units to heat rooms at this time of year. Away from the Atlas you can expect winter temperatures of around 20 degrees. A rainy season doesnt really exist in the middle to southern parts of Morocco but November to March receives more rainfall than other months, mostly falling in the evening and clearing for the days.

Dressing information

You are advised to get clothes that you can stretch and breathe in - but don't over-pack. For the cooler months: April, May, and October, bring layers of clothing and a warm jumper as it will get cooler in the evenings and mornings.

What to bring

You may also bring your favorite yoga mat (although the organizer may also provide one), prescription and other medications (although there is a pharmacy in Essaouira). Bring a bathing costume, sunglasses and sunscreen as well as comfortable footwear for gardens and lounging around. You should change your currency into Moroccan Dirham at the arrival airport to cover your lunches, drinks, other activities, and shopping. About 100 is recommended. The lighting in the rooms is quite dim, so you might need a book light to read at night in your bed or a head light.

Special menu request

Special requests to include meat, dairy, or fish in the meals are available.

Extension options

If you would like to book for extra accommodation days, you can do this at the time of booking.

"We travelled with Hafid our driver from Essaouira on an 8 day tour with our itinerary arranged by Darren. We wanted to see the Cascades, Todra Gorge, and the Dades Valley but we experienced so much more; staying in an oasis village wed never heard of in an old Ksar and visiting a nomad family and a cobbler! The route meant we didnt spend too many hours on the road each day something we were aware of before booking and part of our decision to book with Wheels. Hafid is very patient. Both my wife and I were impressed with his driving skills and each night we arrived he helped with our luggage if the hotel staff were busy. In all the hotels were very good. Bagdad Cafe in Ait Benhaddou was my favourite. Very lovely hosts. Seeing the views of the High Atlas were also breathtaking. I cant recommend the tour enough. Well be back to cover another part of Morocco."

"Great day trip into Marrakech today, Hafid was a great host, picking us up from our hotel and giving us exactly what we asked for goats in trees, Argan Oil Co-op and loads more. Really pleased we booked to go with Darren who was professional and helpful and Hafid made for a wonderful day out."

"In February I went on a photographic trip with Darren Lewey to the Atlas mountains. I can recommend this trip for the beautiful mountain scenery, the river valleys with the almond trees in flower and ancient ruins melting back into the earth. The people were very friendly and allowed us to take their pictures. I hope to go on another trip with Darren in the future."

"Darren and his Moroccan team deliver a very professional, well organized yet exciting tour; taking care of all of us well before we arrived and without them this experience wouldnt have been the same. For each day different sights and activities were proposed, and depending on the weather conditions or our groups interests alternative plans were available in a very easygoing way.We had the privilege to visit wonderful cities, like Ait Ben Haddou (where few movies were partially recorded in, like Gladiator), amazing landscapes (including the Atlas mountains, the dunes, oasis, etc) and the unique possibility to get to know the generous, genuine and happy Moroccan people; visiting their houses, markets, etc learning about their culture and enjoying wonderful stories while drinking tea. We even had a chance to share some hours with a Nomad family in a very remote location in the Atlas, as well as to enjoy a camel trip to a Berber camp in the dunes where we spent the night. The hotels were picturesque, clean and with a good service. We always had good local food, and the van trips didnt feel very long."

"We visited some amazing locations (Essaouira Medina and port, Ait Benhaddou, an oasis, the Atlas mountains, Dades valley). Each of the Hotels / riads were carefully chosen by Darren for comfort, location and their warm welcome and the food was always great. Thank you Darren and Naima for a wonderful and memorable week!"

"Darren expertly navigates the territory in a Land Cruiser and his Moroccan wife knows the culture so you learn quite a bit about Morocco while taking great pictures under blue skies and moderate temperatures (in February)."
