  • Darcy Hagerman

Darcy began her yoga journey with an interest in meditation. After attending several Vipassana meditation retreats, Darcy was soon introduced to Ashtanga yoga. Captivated and inspired by the idea of awareness through movement, she was hooked. Two years later she stumbled upon her first hot and sweaty yoga class and knew she had found her thing.

  • Jess Lemon

From her very first Hot yoga experience at age 18, yoga has helped her grapple with some of life’s most pressing questions: “Who am I? What am I here to do?” These questions and the thirst of physical, intellectual, and spiritual engagement have led her to many great teachers. After completing the inaugural Moksha teacher training in 2004, Jess traveled to London, France, Trinidad, Halifax, and Las Vegas to teach and study, combining her passion for yoga and travel.

  • Amanda Montgomery

Amanda’s yoga journey began in her mid-teens, as she struggled with questions about who she was and what was her purpose in this life. Her discovery of yoga philosophy led her to cultivate a practice of svadhyaya and she spent the next several years reading and wondering how she was going to make sense of it all. Through yoga, Amanda has found peace in her heart, joy in her life, and love in the world. She continues to pursue her passion through studying philosophy with Michael Stone and finds time for reflection while teaching and practising Yin and Moksha yoga.

Costa Rica is a destination internationally renowned for its friendly and genuine people and spectacular nature. While it may seem remote, Costa Rica is easily accessible from the United States and Canada and attracts more eco-friendly and holistically oriented tourism each year.

Costa Rica occupies a territory of around 20,000 square miles in the southern part of Central America and includes several small islands mostly on the Pacific side. The country is only about 200-mile long and 70-mile wide at the narrowest part with 2 long coastlines.

Even though Costa Rica is a very small country and only accounts for about 0.25% of world’s landmass, it has almost 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Much of the country is set aside forever into protected national parks, wildlife refuges, and nature reserves.

Driving directions from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR)

  • Exit from Liberia International Airport (LIR).
  • Turn right in direction to Santa Cruz and Nicoya.
  • Follow the paved highway. You will pass through different villages until you reach the outskirts of the town of Nicoya after approximately 65 kilometers or 1 hour.
  • You will come to an intersection with a 4-way red flashing light and there will be signs there indicating a right turn into the town of Nicoya.
  • Make that right turn and drive straight through the town of Nicoya.
  • Stay always on the main road without turning. Drive slowly as there are a lot of pedestrians in this bustling town.
  • As you leave Nicoya on the other side, continue south on the paved road in the direction of Samara. There will be some twists and turns as you pass through different villages, but you stay always on the paved main road.
  • After approximately 30 kilometers, you will see a large gas station on your left. There is also a hardware store and a little soda cafe for snacks and drinks. Stop here and get gas if needed.
  • Shortly after the gas station, the paved road makes a sharp curve to the left. At the apex of that curve, you will notice a small dirt road turning off to the right, downhill.
  • Take this dirt road. It’s the road to Garza, Guiones Beach, and Nosara. It is marked with several signs.
  • Stay on this dirt road for about 20 kilometers. There are, once again, some turns and twists, but stay on the main road. There are also occasional signs that tell you how many kilometers you still have to go to reach Playa Garza, Guiones and Nosara.
  • You will pass through different villages, until you come to a T-intersection. Turn right here in the direction to Playa Garza where you’ll soon meet the ocean on your left.
  • Continue straight through the village and leave Garza behind in the direction of Playa Guiones and Nosara.
  • After approximately 300 meters, you’ll see on your left a gate and the Blue Spirit Costa Rica sign in blue and orange letters.
  • Make a turn to the left and follow the little winding road all the way to the parking lot and main building.

Driving directions from San Jose International Airport (SJC)

  • Leave San Jose International Airport (SJC) and follow the signs towards San Jose Escazu
  • Stay on this road for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the traffic.
  • Turn right at the intersection and you will see a McDonalds on the far left-hand corner. This is Autopista del Sol or Highway 27.
  • Follow the signs to Caldera and Puntarenas. You will pass the Port of Caldera and once you get to Puntarenas Route 27, turns into Highway 1.
  • Leave Puerto Caldera and travel northeast toward Liberia and Limonal.
  • After 28 kilometers, you will pass the little town of Esparza.
  • Keep on going straight for 6 kilometers, passing the first turn off to Puntarenas, the turn off to Puerto Caldera, and later the second turn off to Puntarenas.
  • Keep going straight for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the center of Limonal.
  • Leave Limonal to the west and travel toward the Puente de La Amistad (29 kilometers) and Nicoya (63.5 kilometers).
  • Pass over the Puente de la Amistad, which is a bridge and continue for another 21 kilometers until you come to a T-junction.
  • Turn right at the "T" onto the road 21.
  • Follow this road for 13 kilometers and turn left toward the town of Nicoya.
  • Enter Nicoya and drive straight through the town, always staying on the main road without turns.

"But I am not remotely flexible and I wouldn't have a clue about the poses. If, like me, that's been your excuse for not trying yoga for years, Moksha North York is your place to start. My first class with Yara was only intimidating until the moment she started talking; from that point on and 13 classes in with Elliot, Jessica, Angela, Rochelle, and Jes, every session has been truly a practice: instructors gently guide, encourage, and foster patience with oneself. We are constantly reminded that love for others must flow out of acceptance of self, to check in with how we handle discomfort or frustration, to pay attention to how our mind and body are connected and what they might be saying to us, and that we are connected to every person in the room through breath and presence."

"Meditation, sweat, challenge, acceptance, friendliness, and a peaceful atmosphere make yoga at Moksha North York one of the highlights of my day. I used to feel like I had to work out at the gym today; with yoga, I can't wait to get there and come out with a sense of renewal and connection."
