You will also have the rare opportunity to attend yoga teacher trainees teaching their first yoga class, which are extremely well-prepared and thought-out unique yoga classes.

Certifications

The course/hours count as Continuing Education hours for Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®) only.

Overview

You will truly be immersed in the heart of the Amazon jungle as their passionate yoga teachers guide you into an experience of unwinding. They will unleash your voices and move your bodies. This is a visceral, sensory, and somatic exploration. A true moment of connection to yourself, to your community, and to nature.

A time to resource while releasing the residual tension that accumulates in your modern lives and to learn tools and practices to take back home with you.

This retreat is for you if you are seeking:

  • Wilderness and immersion in nature
  • Connection to community
  • To tune into your intuition
  • To reconnect to your body and voice
  • To deepen your yoga and meditation practice
  • An adventure in the Amazon jungle

Fluidity: Vinyasa yoga

The Sanskrit word ‘Vinyasa’ translates as “to place in a special way,” and Vinyasa yoga is thus characterized by fluidly stringing asana postures together with each movement synchronized with the breath. The style is vigorous and movement-intensive based on a continuous flow from one asana to the next and offers a wide variety of postures which means that. Unlike the rigidity of Ashtanga yoga sequences, no two Vinyasa classes are ever alike.

Faster-paced than Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga classes involve progressively increasing body heat - and sweat - and building strength. It teaches you to cultivate an awareness that links each action to the next, both on the mat and in your lives. During this training, you will learn Vinyasa yoga methods to assess the needs of individual students or groups, and then build a complementary, step-by-step practice to meet those needs.

In addition to the postures you will learn during Hatha yoga classes (many of which transpose into Vinyasa), you will practice Ashtanga sun salutations A and B, plank pose, four-limbed staff pose, cat-cow stretches, side plank, cobra, grasshopper, as well as many other and more advanced asanas such as arm balances, headstands, inversions, and handstands techniques.

Gravity: Yin yoga

While the majority of yoga styles deriving from Hatha yoga are known as "yang" styles for their vigorous and flow-based approach to movement that mainly targets muscles, there is another, equally important and often neglected style that is opposite: Yin yoga. Where you focus on deep connective tissues, like the fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones, and on releasing tension, tightness, on relaxing body, breath, and on exploring stillness.

Yin yoga is a slow and gentle practice where you're holding postures for 3 to 5 or more minutes, stretching less-often used tissues, finding comfort in your edge and turning inward, tuning into your breath and your thoughts.

Props? Yes, please! Bolsters, blankets, blocks, and eye pillows support practitioners restricted in certain movements, and allows for a more meditative practice. Yin Yoga offers various opportunities for deepening one's practice. From physical stretching to quieting the mind, these can support sitting in meditation practice for longer periods of time.

Digital detox: Time to disconnect

The teachers encourage you during this retreat to take time off your screens, especially your phone. While the digital detox is optional, part of unwinding and connecting to nature is disconnecting from technology and the distractions and demands that often come with it.

If you are ready to go full detox, great! If you have commitments or responsibilities that require you to use your phone, they ask that you do not bring it to meals, practices in the shala, and that you consciously try to limit your screen time.

Master plants medicine: Optional Ayahuasca ceremony

Taking place on the last evening of each of their yoga teacher trainings, this Ayahuasca ceremony is available to participants of their 7-day Bosque de Las Nuwas retreat, and will be held in an atmospheric space (the yoga shala) which contains a mattress, a blanket, cushions and bolsters for each participant, allowing you to comfortably lie down.

The ceremony starts with the establishment of your intentions. During the 5 to 7 hour journey, you will be carried away by accompanying icaros (traditional plant medicine signing) and you will be supported by a loving, experienced curandero or shaman and some of your yoga teachers as guides.

Their curandero / shaman is further familiar with spiritual and energetic work and has a lot of experience in life, in drinking Psilohuasca / Ayahuasca, and in guiding ceremonies. The individual process of each participant is the starting point and the guidance will be matched to the need at that time.

During this magical week full of activities, you are free to attend the activities and practices of your choice; none are mandatory! You can either relax by the pool, explore Moyobamba's markets and street-art, perhaps get a massage, or dive deeper into the tools you will be learning with them. As their retreats take place during their yoga teacher trainings, you will have the opportunity to sit and take part in their yoga teacher training theory lectures and movement practice clinics whenever you want.

Moksha Yoga Amazonica welcomes all men, women, non-binary, and the whole spectrum of self-identity. This retreat is open to all levels, whether you are a beginner or a regular student of yoga, you will find various benefits from the practices they will share with you. They simply ask you to be curious and to come with an open mind and an open heart.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Cad. FAP Guillermo del Castillo Paredes Airport (TPP) in the city of Tarapoto. They recommend landing in Lima Late at night or early in the morning to both avoid having to stay at a hotel in Lima, and to arrive at Kantu Garden Lodge in time.

The drive from Tarapoto to Moyobamba takes 2 hours. Transfer from the airport to the hotel is included. Moksha Yoga Amazónica's representative will pick you up at the airport and hold a Moksha Yoga Amazonica sign.

The main airlines serving domestic flights within Peru are Star Peru, Latam, Sky Airline, and Viva Air. Do check their baggage policies as they tend to have several options. Star Peru for example tends to include luggage in their airfare pricing (and generally have the best prices), while Viva Air and Sky Airline offer cheaper flights but sell luggage allowance separately.

Arrival by bus

You can travel from Lima to Moyobamba by bus, which takes about 24 hours. It is recommended to take the bus companies "Movil Tours" and "GH Bus" as good service options. On the first day of the training, you can arrive anytime during the day.
