In the morning, the sunrise fills the room with energy and the late afternoon turns the mountains pink.

Program

Saturday is the arrival day, where you get to meet everyone, share an evening meal, discuss plans and wishes for the coming week. On Sunday you will combine a short ski and splitboard tour with a workshop of basic touring techniques and how to use the equipment. You will also learn how to use your avalanche safety equipment.

The following days they will provide two full-day guided free ride days, with an instructor to develop off piste skills. On two of the days they will then offer a ski tour, the location and distance will be decided by the local mountain guide. Depending on weather conditions, optimal fresh powder and group preferences they will plan the tours with the mountain guide each evening.

Tours

Lesachriegel 2121m

This is a good tour to the start the week with. From Oberlesach (1400m) you will ascend through the forest towards the mountain ridge above the tree line. The south face has a soft slope and high avalanche-safety. You can climb to a viewing point just above the ridge to enjoy a stunning view of Austria's highest mountains Grossglockner and Grossvenediger. The ride down is easy-going.

Böses Weibl 3121m

This is a demanding but absolutely beautiful tour! The way up offers amazing views and the ride down is probably one of the most rewarding in the region. From Lucknerhaus (1920m) you will ascend through a diverse landscape all the way up to the 3121m summit. There are different descend options - if the weather allows you can take the 1800 vertical meter ride down into Lesacheralm valley. In the evening, you could check out the footage in your TV room, do some video analysis or maybe just drink a cold beer in the wood fired hot tub.

Experience

You don't have to be an advanced skier/boarder, but you should have a good level of fitness and be confident riding in a variety of snow conditions and terrain. For the fitness element, you should be able to ascend 700-1200 vertical meters in a day, which means you are comfortable hiking up hill for three to five hours with a 30 kg backpack. With skiing/riding, you should be able to descend comfortably down a black piste and have some experience with off-piste skiing/snowboarding.

Don't worry if you have limited or no experience in using a split board or touring skis, MoaAlm will help you with that. You will always do a workshop on avalanche safety and rescue, even if you have attended one previously, as MoaAlm believe repetition is important.

Equipment

  • Touring ski’s or splitboard and snowboard
  • Skins and ski crampons
  • Telescope poles for snowboarders
  • Touring boots and bindings
  • Avalanche safety gear: transceiver, shovel and probe
  • Equipment can however also be rented here in the village of Kals at Sport Gratz. At MoaAlm they will help you with the contact and assist you in your rental.

Included excursions

5 guided ski tour days

Avalanche awareness training

5 morning yoga classes

5 evening inversions classes or self guided practice

Retreat location

Your home away from home will be MoaAlm Mountain Retreat in Kals am Grossglockner, Austria. The MoaAlm Mountain Retreat has a secluded location at 1800 meters above sea level; just three kilometers above the farming community of Kals am Grossglockner in the middle of Hohe Tauern National Park.

From the house, you can ski down to the ski resort and at the end of the day, MoaAlm will pick the skiers up at the bottom of the ski slopes with the jeep to drive everybody back up to MoaAlm.

Because MoaAlm’s three-kilometer driveway serves as the local tobogganing track in winter, normal cars cannot drive up and down to MoaAlm. If you are traveling by car, you can park your car at the parking lot down at the bottom of the driveway and MoaAlm will pick you up with the jeep.

Kals

Being one of the most snow-sure regions of the Alps, Kals is a perfect place to ski and snowboard. The GG-resort offers 40 kilometers of pistes that are suitable for skiers of all ages and with all levels of experience. There are no waiting lines for the lifts and the many restaurants on the slopes serve local specialties.

Food

A big part of the WearActive holiday is their delicious plant based food. They love cooking, eating, sharing and sourcing locally produced food. They believe that food tastes best when it's fresh, grown close-by and, above all, when it is shared with friends both old and new. In their Croatian and Austrian homes they have a communal dining table - all guests and hosts sit together to share the plant based meals.
