MoaAlm Mountain Retreat is not a regular winter holiday. Because they love the mountains and everything they have to offer, they like to offer more than just skiing. If you like, you could definitely hit the slopes every day, but if you're up for something different, you are welcome to join in one of their alternative guided activities, such as snow shoeing. Of course, they also offer daily yoga classes in their in-house yoga studio with panoramic mountain views.

There is no set daily schedule; you will have the opportunity to discuss your preferences upon your arrival. The following is a suggestion of a daily program. MoaAlm Mountain Retreat understands that every guest and every day is different. The benefit of small groups is that they can adapt, discuss, and personalize each day. Some will prefer to ski in the resort most days and take the opportunity to try something new on one day, whilst others, in the same week, will choose the alternative activities on offer daily and choose to not ski the pistes. It makes the discussion around the dinner table much more interesting as they have all had their own days of adventure.

Day 1

Arrive to MoaAlm, your mountain home. Enjoy a welcome drink and a chat over dinner about your weekly activity preferences.

Day 2

Practice yoga looking out at the sunrise from behind the mountains before breakfast, followed by a snowshoe hike from MoaAlm to a mountain hut. This will be followed by time to relax back at the house in the late afternoon, before dinner is served, and the next day's plans are proposed.

Day 3

Enjoy breakfast followed by a fresh power run down to the chair lift of the GG-resort. This will be a day cruising on the pistes. You can enjoy an apres ski drink in the village before being driven back up to MoaAlm for late afternoon snacks and dinner at the house.

Day 4

There could be poor visibility up high, so you will head down the valley and take a winter hike trail through the trees. An early evening toboggan ride will be followed by dinner at the house.

Day 5

Today there are no alternative activities so you can head to the piste for a day, take the snowshoes out on one of the marked trails, or improve your cross country ski technique. Dinner will be served out this evening at one of the restaurants in the village.

Day 6

If you have never tried it before, then take the opportunity to join a beginners cross country ski group, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. Dinner will be served at the house in the evening.

Day 7

Friday comes around all too quickly, but you will make the most of it with a full day in the resort, skiing the freshly groomed pistes. Enjoy a final evening meal at the house with your new friends!

"A wonderful week in lovely accommodation - our room was big, bright with wonderful views. We were looked after by Barbara, Hubert, Beatrix, and Florian with all our needs catered for, and some. All the hikes were well chosen in terms of location, length, and level of difficulty. The yoga at 7:30 a.m. was a joy. I miss it still. The mindfulness led by Clare was inspiring. I'm still making time for my 'sit spots'. The food was wonderful. We will definitely be back! We love you Nelson!!!"

"I had a fantastic week at MoaAlm, where I participated in the Grossglockner Mountaineering Week (June 25th - July 2nd, 2016). I would definitely recommend mountaineering enthusiasts (both beginners and more experienced climbers) who wish to climb Grossglockner to go! "

"The one week program included many alpine activities led both by Barbara and Hubert (who are certified Tirolean Mountain Hiking Guides) and by professional mountain guides from the village Kals am Grossglockner. We started with a "warming up" hike to Schönleitenspitze (2805 m) to test our legs and to assess the (physical) ability from the members of the group on day 1. On day 2 we went on a mountain bike ride through the East Tirolian Dorfer Valley, a beautiful national park. Day 3 and 4 were scheduled for the ascent of Grossglockner, the highlight of our week. The first of the two days, we hiked to Studlhutte (2802 m) in the morning and we had a training on the glacier near Studlhutte in the afternoon. During the training, we were taught rope techniques, crevasse rescue techniques and how to safely cross a glacier. We had dinner and stayed the night in the Studlhutte. After an alpine start on day 4, we climbed Grossglockner (3798 m; Austrians highest mountain)! After a well deserved lunch, we descended back to MoaAlm in the afternoon. Day 5 was our day of rest (and was also the spare day to climb Grossglockner in the event of bad weather conditions). On day 6, we went rock climbing with the mountain guide in the morning (Blauspitze, 2595 m). The route was not too demanding, which was necessary for some of the less experienced climbers in the group. In the afternoon, we went sport climbing. Since Hubert was training for the Grossglockner Ultra Trail, we also went trail running through some of the toughest tracks in the area. "

"I really enjoyed my stay in MoaAlm and am really happy we made it to the summit of Grossglockner. I think this mountaineering week has lots to offer for climbers of different levels. Barbara and Hubert have profound knowledge of the mountains and are in close contact with the guides, which means they are flexible to adjust the program depending on weather conditions and the abilities of the members of the group. The local mountain guides are very experienced and professional. "

"In short: an amazing week full of alpine adventure, with the luxury of returning to MoaAlm (almost) every night to enjoy the warmth and comfort of Barbara's and Hubert's hospitality!"

"A remote spot of luxury high in the Alpine forest, MoaAlm is an inspiring place in many ways. The quality and space of the accommodation, the thoughtful attention that Barbara and Hubert pay to everyone's needs, the fabulous meals by Florian and Beatrix, and the stunning mountain location were all idyllic. Waking up to the bedroom views of mountain mists and deer set me up well for days of wonderful food (inc cake), company, space, hiking (and in my case mindfulness of nature retreat activities led by author Claire Thompson). Nelson the mountain dog is also lovely company. My experience at MoaAlm will remain deep in my mind forever."

"We returned from our first family ski trip relaxed, rejuvenated, and inspired. I am not sure what we enjoyed most; being surrounded by the mountains, learning to ski again, being outside, or seeing the kids hurling themselves down the slopes. "

"We have been carefully considering whether Oscars Apple cake was the best cake ever or whether eating after day 1 on the slopes was just one of life's good moments. "

"Mo Alm is a great setting, a world away from previous sking trips. Kals worked very well for us. Hiring the kit was really quick and easy, no lift queues (even during school holidays), good value lunches, and very friendly locals (stopping to help with my haphazard cross country skiing technique)."

"We have already booked for 2016 and are taking our neighbours with us (not sure if it's the food or the skiing they are coming for)."

"I cannot recommend MoaAlm highly enough. We had the most wonderful week with beautiful views, delicious food, interesting company, great skiing (downhill and cross country), and to top it all snow-shoeing some of the way up Austria's highest peak, Grossglockner. Everyone at MoaAlam bent over backwards to make each day a great experience."

"A week at MoaAlm mountain retreat is everything you thought it would be and more. Amazing food, beautiful surroundings, and awesome people. Waking up with yoga classes with Barbara is a bliss, Nothing like a good stretch in the morning. The ski resort has some great slopes and facilities are really good and well kept. Ofcourse the Moaalm crew is happy to help you around the slopes and give some great tips on where to go and when. The food is unreal! Every night is a food party on your plate. But most of all, the people (Xania, Craig, Hubert, Barbara, Oskar, and Martin) are really the reason why our holiday was so great! So, thank you! It was amazing!"

"We had the best holiday ever at MoaAlm! The food is great, the hospitality even better. Barbara, Hubert, Oskar, Craig en Xania really make you feel right at home, will show around and make you ski like you're an pro. The yoga was a really nice morning wake up activity and at night you can have some great wines. What makes this place even better is Nelson. The most cutest dog you've ever seen. Really would recomment this place to everyone who want the feeling of having a month holiday instead of a week, enjoys good food and perfect hospitality."

"We spent a memorable, amazing, funny, playful week at MoaAm with our family of 4 young girls. The staff could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. It was like staying with great friends, who just wanted to take you in, with the added bonus of a couple of cuddly dogs to play with all the time. The meals were delicious and interesting, the afternoon cakes divine. Our kids learned loads in an afternoon of guided ski with Hubert and really improved their skills. Barbara's excellent yoga classes set us up for skiing every day and worked out the kinks each morning after. We will certainly treasure the memories of this trip and are already talking about going back!"

"Lovely seven days with clear blue skies and fresh snow. Food was excellent and good range of activities. I had not been on a snow holiday before and had opportunity to try out snow shoeing, rodelling, and cross country skiing. Down hill was additional. Yoga was well taught. Did opt out of one day's activities to be able to spend time in solitude outside which had been an aim for me. Due to it's lovely position the transfer from airport is long (three hours)."

"This place is quite a find! Located in an incredible location, up the mountain above the village of Kals. Xania and Craig, the owners, were great - explored some of the valley with snow shoes and did cross country skiing as well - was surprised how much I enjoyed the cross-country. And then the food - which was delicious! Their chef Oskar is amazing. Would totally recommend a week at MoaAlm - and I forgot the yoga! Yoga, great hikes, incredible location, great food. What more could you want!"

Thanks to the hosts Barbara en Hubert, the program was precisely adjust to everybody's wishes. The food was really delicious (thanks Oskar!) and the views were amazing. "This is the second time we have stayed with Xania and Craig, but the first time with them in Austria along with Hubert, Barbara, Oskar, and Martin. Vis was amazing and Moa Alm was just as good. We travelled as a family of four with children aged 8 and 15 and they tailored activities suitable for all. Skiing was fab and Barbara took my eldest up higher slopes which was great and made his holiday, thanks Barbara!"

"Food was great, thanks Oskar! Martin in cafe was a great help building the igloo and great fun rodeling (sledging) to the restaurant. That was never on my bucket list but I'm going to write it on just to cross it off. Moaalm is stunning... very warm, comfy, clean, spacious and always welcoming. Honestly another top class memorable holiday. Can't thank you all enough. Would recommend to everyone."

"I honestly cannot recommend MoaAlm enough. As a solo traveler, I am always interested in new challenges and visiting places that are off-the-beaten-track. Thank you so much to Hubert, Barbara, Oscar, and Martin for making me feel part of the MoaAlm family and for the most unforgettable week, packed with snowshoeing, hiking, cross country skiing, yoga, and amazing food. Even if I'm a regular hiker but an absolute rookie at snow sports, that was not an issue, with them willing to take the time to explain to me how to use the equipment before we started off on our adventure. They take special care with attention to detail and I loved that they tailor your holiday based around what you decided you want to do the night before! Also, dietary requirements were no issue, with the chef Oscar whipping up heavenly dishes for any needs. The communal dining was another plus, allowing you to socialize and get to know your hosts and other guests. Also, if you're not too tired from the day before's activities, you may spend at least one morning watching the sunrise over the mountains. Thanks again for the laughs and treasured memories. I had a super relaxing week, enjoying the sunshine and snow with unforgettable views over Grossglockner, the Alps, and the Dolomites. I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone looking for something special away from the crowds. Definitely a highlight in my trip. In a word, this place was phenomenal."

"My wife and I were looking for an outdoors-oriented and exciting holiday, without the commercialism found in a packaged pre-planned chalet getaway; and MoaAlm could not have been a better choice. We knew we'd arrived at the right place on the first day when we were greeted with a cup of coffee and some cake which we enjoyed alongside other guests who had just come back from a mountain hike. Each evening we sat down to an amazing three-course dinner prepared by the on-site chef, whose cooking is only outdone by the care he took to accommodate our food preferences. But for us, the real highlight of our stay was the easy-going atmosphere. We wanted to be in the mountains as much as possible, and the staff arranged challenging and expertly guided activities for us, while simultaneously accommodating the preferences of other guests who had come to enjoy the views, food and to relax. Yoga each morning was also a treat and while it was our first time, we got a real kick from trying it. The best recommendation I can give is that before we even left, my wife and I began planning our next visit. MoaAlm will certainly be a place that we will enjoy visiting time and time again."

"Just before Christmas, we stayed in MoaAlm for a week, which has been an absolute pleasure. First of all, the retreat is situated beautifully in the middle of the mountains on a 10-minute drive uphill from the mountain village Kals, which gives the place a remote feeling, yet well accessible by car. The interior is cozy, contemporary, and clean, with large windows offering great views on the Austrian Alpes. What we particularly enjoyed at the MoaAlm was the relaxed atmosphere amongst all guests and hosts, which made us feel very much at home. Barbara and Hubert organize a variety of activities, such as hiking and yoga classes, in a professional manner, tailored to the wishes of the guests, in which you are free to participate whenever you like. This makes it very easy to enjoy the surroundings in an active way. Furthermore, the food at MoaAlm is a real treat, especially the three-course dinners prepared by chef Oskar. They are both delicious and healthy. The MoaAlm definitely exceeded all our expectations!"

"If you like fresh mountain air, lush food, and good company, this is the holiday for you. The setting of MoaAlm could not be more perfect. Its location at the top of Kals village ensures beautiful mountain views from each and every window and the balcony too. You can soak up the views of the mountains during the day and the spectacular stars by night. Barbara, Hubert, Craig, and Xania are brilliant hosts, really friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area. They were really committed to helping us get the most out of our holiday and offered lots of suggestions and options for the guided activities. Making me feel that it was my holiday rather than a pre-organized trip. Most days started with Barbara's optional yoga class, which was both rejuvenating and relaxing. The days were then spent hiking, snow shoeing, or skiing, all in the close vicinty of MoaAlm, so not much driving needed. On return from these fantastic days out, there was always a slice of Oskar's cake and a cup of tea ready and waiting! Evenings were also great. MoaAlm's talented chef, Oskar, served us freshly cooked, delicious, healthy and plentiful food, which was a total treat at the end of a hard day in the mountains. MoaAlm is both stylish and comfortable, with plenty of seating areas to relax and read in or chatter with new friends. There are also plenty of games to play! The bedrooms are comfortable, with nice lighting, and the view from the balcony is an added bonus. What I liked least? Having to leave!"

"We arrived in the evening, at eleven o'clock, for a retreat for a week and were warmly welcomed with a drink of our own choice from the well stocked bar. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals with friends were all served at the big table, prepared by the fantastic, imaginative cook, Oskar. All necessary ingredients in the mountains were gleaned by him and Navid, our waiter. The program of yoga by Barbara for breakfast, and mindfulness then in the beautiful yoga room overlooking the mountains, began for me as a fairly strict regime but was a good way to find peace, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and the friendliness of everyone around me. The afternoons were outside, walking in the wide, spectacular scenery of the Grossglockner; spent under the direction of Barbara and / or Hubert, and Nelson puppy as he wanted. An unforgettable week."

"Together with my girlfriend, I visited last July at the guest's stay of Barbara and Hubert. MoaAlm is a beautiful, brand new, renovated cottage and stands on top of a mountain, which towers high above the village of Kals. MoaAlm is very stylishly decorated, the bedrooms are very spacious, comfortable, and clean and the beds sleep insanely delicious. The food is served by chef Oscar and I must confess that I have rarely eaten so good. His dishes are extremely surprising and really exceptionally tasteful. I did not think you could eat so delicious in a mountain hut in the middle of nowhere. Food in MoaAlm is served with all the guests and staff together at a long table and gives a very special atmosphere. This makes the guest's stay really feel like a home rather than a place where that week you happen to have booked a room. In terms of the location of the shelter, it is unique in its kind. I, after many years of mountain vacations, have never been in such a beautiful spot in the Alps. We have taken pictures during our walks that could have come straight out of the background check of Windows XP. There are plenty of wildlife to see and the views are truly spectacular. For the more adventurous, there is plenty to be found in the immediate vicinity of MoaAlm. For example, we go rafting, which was completely crazy, but you can go paragliding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and much more. The icing on the cake was to be awake every morning during Barbara's excellent yoga classes with a panoramic view of Kals. I will definitely come back to MoaAlm. I am especially curious about how the winter is there. A holiday here is an absolute must if you're looking for tranquility, thrills, and great food; all your expectations are exceeded. In one word: Wow!"

"With two small children, aged 6 and 2 years, it was great to relax in the MoaAlm. The guest house was very clean but, above all, very cozy. The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone felt at home and we were very spoiled by Hubert, Barbara, and Oskar. Everything is super well organized, so you have to think about anything. The area was also very suitable for a young family; children's walking routes to toboggan and water parks. It was even thought for the smallest. A wonderful, active, relaxed place to definitely return to."

"After spending time at MoaAlm, I am tempted to spend every vacation in the future at this guest house. Where to start? There are three main features to MoaAlm that make a vacation here a perfect blend of relaxation, activity, adventure, and unique experiences. The mountain adventures, the incredible food, and the yoga made our time here perfectly and uniquely balanced. First of all, MoaAlm's location in the mountains made waking up each day exciting and full of gratitude. Hubert and Barbara take you on wonderful hikes in the mountains, which are layered in blankets of alpine flowers. I also highly recommend the canyoning and rafting tours, as they are incredibly fun and immersive in nature. The alm is somewhat isolated in the mountains, which truly made it a peaceful mountain retreat, with only a 25-minute hike into the lush valley, and doing yoga overlooking the mountains each morning was incredible. Barbara, the yoga teacher, is incredibly skilled and can adjust the classes to any level. Oskar, the chef, makes such delicious dinners that I worked even harder on hikes so I could be hungrier in the evening and fit in more food. The rooms are modern, simple, clean, and incredibly comfortable. Oskar, Hubert, and Barbara were incredibly wonderful hosts, with much to contribute to intellectual conversation, a wonderful sense of humor, and great at achieving days of balance tailored to guests' desires. The adventures helped our bodies and minds relax, and the evening filled with reading, board games, beer, and delicious food kept us satisfied. As someone who loves outdoor adventures and flavor-rich food, this was definitely the right place. I am definitely going to recommend MoaAlm to my friends and family."

"Excellent chalet in a beautiful area of Tyrol. Rooms are light, quiet, clean, and have a good kingsize bed. Early morning yoga becomes addictive, as is the fresh and healthy breakfast. Guides know the area very well and offer beautiful hikes and mountain bike tours. Terrace has the best view of the area, with sunlight the entire afternoon and a nice cappuccino. The three-course meal is local, organic, and original; but most of all, delicious. MoaAlm has very professional and friendly staff. Absolute value for money!"

"Dreamlike location, mountains as far as the eye can see in all directions. Very lovingly furnished guest house, to feel comfortable. Super dear host, always on the well by the guest. Tolle operations (mountain biking, hiking). Yoga to wake up in the morning, when you feel like it. Excellent food, thanks Oskar. Thanks for the hospitality Barbara and Hubert, it was a great trip for us with you, and we very much would like to come back."

"We just spent a very nice, active, and in the same time relaxing week at MoaAlm. We made beautiful hikes in the surrounding area of the National Park Hohe Tauern; every effort was rewarded by stunning views and awesome landscapes. I have never seen so many beautiful alpin flowers. The e-mountainbiking trip with Hubert gave the muscles a twist and the head a swirl. The atmosphere in and around the MoaAlm is absolutely relaxing. More then enough space in the guestroom and a lovely family sitting and dining room. The food is amazing (thanks to Oscar) and also the daily yoga class by Barbara helped us to unwind from the usual stress. We enjoyed the stay from the beginning to the end and will highly recommend it to people searching a lot of pleasure in their leisure. Thank you Hubert, Barbara, and Oscar for feeling at home in the MoaAlm."

"It was a very pleasant stay in the freshly renovated MoaAlm! The modern and at the same time classic interior allowed relaxing reading but, thanks to the amazing view, also made me think about what trip to take next in the beautiful mountain ranges nearby the MoaAlm. For people who finally want to escape, this is the place to go!"

"We immediately felt we had made the right choice on the drive up to the hotel, through the breathtaking Austrian mountains, where we were immediately made to feel part of the family and began to fall into the whole relaxed atmosphere that surrounds MoaAlm. Everything was taken care for us, leaving us more time to unwind before getting ready to go snow shoeing, skiing, or for yoga, etc. Meal times were a sociable time too, eating beautifully cooked food around an amazing big table with other guests really encouraged us to mix, we now have made some lovely friends, who we hope to meet there again. Cleanliness was second to none and there was something to suit all of us everyday, including keeping a busy 6-year-old entertained. I really can't speak highly enough of our holiday and look forward to many more years of holidays at MoaAlm."
