The MoaAlm Mountain Retreat has comfortable single, double, twin, or triple rooms all with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are stylishly decorated and spacious. The sizes vary up to 24 square meters. All rooms have an en-suite private bathroom and stunning views. Some have balconies but not all. All rooms can be made up with one double or two single beds. We also have the option of triple rooms. After an active day in the outdoors, you can enjoy the astonishing view from the sunny terrace or relax in the living room, enjoy a drink at the bar, curl up on the sofa with a magazine or book, or enjoy a meal at the shared dining table. The in-house yoga studio has a panoramic mountain view and is the perfect place for an active start of the day with some energising yoga or a relaxing session of Restorative yoga in the afternoon. In the morning, the sunrise fills the room with energy and the late afternoon turns the mountains pink.

Program

MoaAlm is situated at 1800m and is the ideal place to relax and get away from it all and escape the crowds. This retreat is the perfect holiday for single travellers, families, or groups of friends. There is something to do for everyone. Some like to participate in the morning yoga and spend the day reading, whilst others go skiing in the resort or join the organised snow shoe hiking or cross country skiing. At the end of the day, you will all come together over a delicious plant based meal.

Yoga

MoaAlm offers a one hour morning yoga class with a certified instructor on five days of the week. You are very welcome to join whether you have never done yoga before or you are a regular practitioner. The classes are always tailored to individual needs. Your yoga teacher teaches an energising yoga class in the mornings and occasionally teaches a Restorative yoga session in the afternoon. Every evening an inversion class is offered and the yoga space is also opened for self-practice

Typical day

There is no set daily schedule. MoaAlm Mountain Retreat understands that every guest and every day is different. The benefit of small groups is that you can adapt, discuss, and personalise each day. Some will prefer to ski in the resort most days and take the opportunity to try something new on one day whilst others in the same week will choose the alternative activities on offer daily and choose to not ski the pistes.

It makes the discussion around the dinner table much more interesting as you’ve all had your own days of adventure. However, a typical week might look like this:

Day 1

Arrival to your mountain home from home, MoaAlm. Welcome drink and a chat over dinner about your weekly activity preferences.

Day 2

Morning yoga class looking out at the sunrise from behind the mountains before breakfast. You choose either: Introduction to snowshoe hike with our Activity Leader or a day of skiing from MoaAlm where you orientate you to the local ski resort. Invesion class and self practice in the yoga studio before dinner.

Day 3

Today could look like you having breakfast followed by a fresh powder run down to the chair lift of the GG-resort. There could be a day cruising on the pistes or maybe an apres ski drink in the village before being driven back up to MoaAlm for late afternoon cake and a soak in the hot tub. Alternatively you may wish to join our introduction to cross country skiing organised by our Activity Leader.

Day 4

There could be poor visibility up high so you will head down the valley and take an accompanied snowshoe hike through the trees. There will be an early evening toboggan followed by a restorative yoga session or inversion practice.

Day 5

There will be no alternative activity today so you can head to the piste for a day, take the snowshoes out on one of the marked trails or improve your cross country ski technique. Dinner out this evening will be at one of the restaurants in the village.

Day 6

If you’ve never tried cross-country skiing before, then take the opportunity to join a beginner’s cross country ski group guaranteed to make you laugh out loud! Dinner will be at the house in the evening.

Day 7

Friday comes around all too quickly but you make the most of it with a chance to explore the fresh powder and off piste skiing at the base of Austria`s highest mountain, Grossglockner. Alternatively join our final organised snow shoe hike along a stunning ridge-line with views of Grossglockner. Final evening meal at the house with new friends!

Day 8

This will be your departure day.

Included excursions

MoaAlm Mountain Retreat offers two daily yoga sessions (one in the morning, and inversion classes each evening) in a panoramic mountain studio alongside organised cross country skiing or snowshoe hiking on five days of the week. The yoga studio is always open for self practice. Equipment is provided.

Retreat location

Your home away from home will be MoaAlm Mountain Retreat in Kals am Grossglockner, Austria. The MoaAlm Mountain Retreat is a secluded location at 1800 meters above sea level; just three kilometres above the farming community of Kals am Grossglockner in the middle of Hohe Tauern National Park.

From the house, you can ski down to the ski resort and at the end of the day, MoaAlm will pick the skiers up at the bottom of the ski slopes with the jeep to drive everybody back up to MoaAlm.

MoaAlm’s three-kilometre driveway serves as the local tobogganing track in winter, normal cars cannot drive up and down to MoaAlm. If you are traveling by car, you can park your car at the parking lot down at the bottom of the driveway and MoaAlm will pick you up with the jeep.

Kals

Being one of the most snow-sure regions of the Alps, Kals is a perfect place to ski and snowboard. The GG-resort offers 40 kilometres of pistes that are suitable for skiers of all ages and with all levels of experience. There are no waiting lines for the lifts and the many restaurants on the slopes serve local specialties.
