Meditation and yoga

Do you want to discover what is needed to walk your life in a more relaxed way, while you enjoy an adventurous safari in Tanzania with everything to it? This is only possible with Mindful Adventure. You are invited in a double adventure among friends, who are willing just like you to find a deeper relaxation towards life and at the same time feel more alive and joyful.

The wild nature in Africa, the walks, meditations, healing, and sharing with your fellow travellers will help you to become more free of restricting habits in your daily life. You will learn to shift from your thoughts to your senses, which feels like waking up from a deep sleep. Also you will be shown what is needed to live more from the heart, which will create better relationships. You can change your life, if only you know what to do.

Safari Adventure

This safari is also a vacation and you will experience an unforgettable meeting with Mindful Adventure's Masaï friends in Ngorongoro and help you trace for lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, elephants and more at Serengeti. From there you will enjoy the views of two great lake areas in Tanzania. In Mwanza you will do a Cultural Tour and if you like, you can visit a local outdoor club with swinging African music. After sailing and hiking at Rubondo Island, enjoying the diversity of birds, you will be surprised by hippos coming ashore after 5.00 pm and be impressed by face to face meetings with Bushbocks, Impalas and Gazelles which stare at you with their big wonderingly eyes. A crocodile will slowly pass if you pay attention. Later you will walk through the Rainforest, searching for Chimpanzees, which hang lazy in their tree or intensely panic when the Alpha male joins them.

Day 1

On arrival day, you will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania (JRO). You will be picked up and brought to L’Oasis Meserani just outside Arusha, where you will spend the night.

Day 2

During the second day, you will leave early to start the journey to Endonyowas in Ngorongoro Crater Highlands. The Masaï friends will have prepared a heartwarming welcome for you. Endonyowas is not a fake tourist village but an authentic village where Masaï are living a simple and hard life to survive. The circumstances have dramatically changed and they know they have to develop to save aspects of their culture.

One of the reasons why they are very open to show you their culture, their lifestyle, some activities and gladly exchange with you during a cup of tea. During the evening, you will rest at Olmoti Campsite in a light-weighted tent with comfortable mattresses. Also, you will enjoy a first meal made by the private cook.

Day 3 - 4

During the third and fourth day, you will depart for a three-day game drive in Serengeti. During the day, you will try to spot lions, leopards, giraffes, cheetahs, and other wild animals. At night, you will stay at a public campsite among the wild and listen to strange, tropical sounds from the immediate surroundings.

These campsites have enough space for you to practice yoga and other exercises or meditations to stretch your body after the game drives. And you should not be surprised if Impalas, warthogs, mongoose, and buffalos walk through your eyesight during your meditation.

Day 5

During the fifth day, in the morning, you will have a meditation and yoga practice after which you will slowly drive to Mwanza; a lively town bordering Lake Victoria. You will spend the night in Tilapia hotel which is beautifully located in the bay of Mwanza. You will enjoy dining outside on a sultry night with the view across the bay.

Day 6

During the sixth day, you will go for a nice walk at Mwanza City. There, you can visit the famous "skopjes" of which the "Bismarckrock" is the most well-known. You will probably come eye to eye with one of the "Maraboe Storcks" of Mwanza. You will also be taken to the lively general market of Mwanza and the Masai market. Weary but fulfilled, you can relax in the Talapia hotel, use the swimming pool, and enjoy the view across the bay.

Day 7 and 8

During the seventh and eighth day, you will leave early for Rubondo. Rubondo is an island in Lake Victoria where you will see many species of birds. During a special boat trip, you will see birds close by, pass Crocodile Island and you will probably come across some hippos. You will be dropped off on the island with the private cook to camp for the night. Hippos can often be seen grazing in the grass right in front of you.

Day 9

During the ninth day, you will get the boat back to the mainland and get the jeep to travel to Gombe National Park. It’s a long travel day and you will stay overnight in a basic hotel in Kasulu, when you make it in time in Kigoma, where the boat leaves for Gombe. During this day you will be offered meditation techniques in the jeep.

Day 10 and 11

During the tenth and eleventh day, you will leave to Gombe National Park by boat. Gombe National Park is a paradise next to Lake Tanganyika where Jane Goodall did her research on chimpanzees. Two hours after departure you will arrive in this paradise with amazing sunsets and a beautiful place to swim or sit on the beach surrounded by the jungle behind you. Gombe National Park cannot be reached by mainland, only through the jungle.

Many groups of chimpanzees live in the jungle and you will spend time looking for them. Quietly observing the behavior of the chimpanzees will be unforgettable and exciting. Don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful walk through the tropical forest. It will be also possible to join for a bird watching tour and visit a waterfall.

Day 12 and 13

During the twelfth and thirteenth day, after breakfast, you will return to Kigoma by boat. You will travel by jeep to Tibora where you will stay the night. From there, you will travel back to Arusha and you will be taken to Safari Lodge in Ilboru, which is situated on the slope of Mount Meru. It has nice rooms, a good menu, and a swimming pool to relax after a long trip.

Day 14

During the fourteenth day, you will be escorted back to Kilimanjaro International Airport(JRO) to fly back home. In case you have a night flight, it is possible to join on a city tour in Arusha. It will be nice to see the markets, the shops, the museum, and in general to experience the street life.

"I felt carried by nature. Some moments I will never forget. When we were meditating at Empakai, the beautiful Vulcanic Lake in Ngorongoro. I had found a spot where I could just see the Lake through the plants. This was an unforgettable moment of looking within myself ánd looking outward. I felt so carried by nature. All my senses where wide open. Alina chooses for people and places that fit to her Mindfulness approach. The exercises (that certainly have an impact), the walking, camping in the wild, the Masai that we meet, it all was real and pure. I am grateful to Alina, Rama, Msafiri and Tuma for this very beautiful travel experience. A meeting with man and nature, and with myself."

"I had a wonderful time in every way. A camping spot between Masai villages, a tree with a wide view. Dancing Five Rhythms by Gabrielle Roth at daybreak. Memories of years of dancing, memories to profound events then. Now dancing again with emotions of mourning and loss; flowing and crying, stamping staccato and stillness. The Masai guide Muran dancing with us, the teen daughters of driver Rama as well. This is life as it can be in al it’s diversity and liveliness. On the road people are walking from village to village, they stand still, watch, and lean on their walking stick for a while, and continue. A Mindful inner and outer journey through Tanzania, adventurous and inspiring."

"A journey with beautiful faraways, incisive proximity and deep insights. And what an adventure it was; campfires, plains, Masaï, dryness, dust, silence, primitive, warriors, forgo, compressed energy, vulcans, emotion, clear nights. Unfamiliar men became comrades. And apart from that all the animals and wonders of nature on the way. But also; meditations, yoga and sharings. That was fairly new to me but it gave such en extra dimension. And all of that in such a setting."

"To describe the intensity, the contrasts, the small and the magnificence, words simply fall short. What I do want to share is what it brought me; personal leadership as human and man and a more intense relationship with my wife. The talks with the trainers and comrades, Tanzania, the Masaï, they all contributed in their own unique way. I end with a powerfull and loving Aho. Thank you Mindful Adventure and Tanzania for seeing the need for this and for making it possible."

"Wow, what a trip! I knew there was something with me and Africa, but this trip made me experience and see this even more. The (walking) meditations made me experience everything more intense and made mee see the beauty of the African landscape even more. The walking trekking, The Masaï, the wild animals, driving through the African landscape, hearing the roaring of a leopard, the African relaxedness, all highlights of this extraordinary safari!"

"A real wow feeling! This safari was a trip to an incredible beautiful country but also an incredible inner journey. From the first moment I was there, my nerves fell away and there was only excitement: what would happen these coming 2 weeks. And so much has happened. We watched for lions, elephants, leopards. What was it beautiful to stand amidst of all that! A real wow feeling. Apart from that there was the amazing beautiful landscape during the walks where we enjoyed so much more because of the mindfulness exercises that made us live completely in the NOW. Every meal was a feast from our loverly cook. If you are in doubt, just do it and let you be carried away in a special adventure. I am taking it with me and am absolutely less fearful since I’m back. Really wow!"

"AFRICA! I didnt know much about it really. I felt attracted to Africa, but also tense because of my ignorance about the country and its inhabitants and not knowing what was going to happen. Msafiri was welcoming us on arrival and that was very nice. I felt safe from day 1 onwards. The people are very sociable, speak reasonably English and are cheerful with a positive attitude. They also take good care of the food. I especially appreciated camping on small sites and being in touch with nature and locals instead of traveling around like a rich tourist. The contrast between rich and poor was made crystal clear during this trip. The climate is good and certainly not too hot. Nature is overwhelmingly beautiful. I have never been in a country with so many different animals and birds. Streets are colourful. The trip itself has a diverse program with riding, walking, temperature differences, heights, relaxing, meeting Masai villages and towns. I felt I was traveling with friends instead of a travel organisation which made the whole experience very special.Africa, Im glad I met you. Many thanks to Alina and Msafiri for this beautiful experience."

  • Review by Anita Smulders from the Netherlands

"It has been a fantastic experience to travel to Tanzania with Mindful Adventure. It was a completely different holiday compared to standard trips offered by most travel agents. Walking with the Masai through the ever changing views of the countryside; absorbing the greatness of nature and camping with donkeys, their riders and our own cook. My three highlights were Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti and I also really enjoyed swimming underneath romantic waterfalls! It is indescribable how many animals can be spotted in such a short time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and often still think about it with great pleasure."

  • Review by Maarten van der Velde from the Netherlands

"It has given me the experience of slowing down, a closer relationship to nature and myself, a sense of respect for the Masa people and their unchanged lifestyle through the ages, the beauty and purity of the landscape and a hard question to ask: who is taking better care of this earth, the Masai or the remaining people in this world?"
