Azula’s 90 m2 hand-built yoga deck is located in the heart of the project on top of the hills. With its great view over gentle hills, the platform is surrounded by beautiful cork oaks. The roof of the yoga deck is a wooden lotus-shaped geodesic Zome covered by colourful fabrics, as a celebration of life and the connection between the Mother Earth and all beings.

Energising morning yoga and meditation sessions, restoring afternoon sessions, and evening candlelit guided meditation sessions under the stars, will take place on this beautiful platform, deeply connecting you with the wonders and unique healing power of nature. This epic five-day Positive Self-transformation Retreat is designed around four key practices:

In Guided Meditation Program, you'll be given psychoanalysis and positive psychology-based guidance to work with your own mind - to learn to observe your thoughts and feelings from the inside out, to cultivate non-judgmental and mindful awareness of yourself, to connect deeply with your inner voice and intuition, to develop stronger psychological and emotional resilience, and to explore what it truly means to relax, look after yourself and flourish. The sessions will be conducted with the assistance of aromatherapy and candle lights, creating a magical ambience that helps you to arrive into deep relaxation, peace and blissful stillness.

In yoga, you'll learn different styles of practices including Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin, Hatha, Traditional Balinese Watukaru and Power Yoga, to help you develop greater body awareness and learn to listen to your body, let go of the ego-mind, and flow into stillness and inner harmony in order to experience the truth of who you are.

In meditation, you’ll practice various techniques such as Mindfulness, Walking, Tibetan Tonglen, Breathing, Silent and Dancing Meditation. These practices give meditation beginners a great chance to kickstart their individual practices, and those who have been practicing for a while an opportunity to experience other forms of practice.

In pranayama, you'll learn to tap into the power of your breath, to reverse the "fight-or-flight" response and deeply relax your body, to remove emotional blockages and turbulence in your mind, and to feel perfectly safe and grounded in the present moment using the breath as your anchor.

Located on the South-Western coast of Portugal, only a 20 minutes drive to the beach, Azula (meaning “A cozy place on earth” in Arabic) is a place, a project and the home of two families that share the same vision, to raise their children in a beautiful safe environment and to cultivate their land and themselves so as to enjoy life fully. The Azula Team is full of enthusiasm, passion, determination, and knowledge, and they are transforming this previously heavily grazed land into an abundant off-the-grid ecological farm by applying fully integrated Permaculture design systems.

This is a fantastic opportunity for all participants of this retreat to see how to make dreams into reality by designing and building a Permaculture project from scratch and working with, not against our Mother Earth. So far, this process has come to transform many lives, filling them with passion for what they are doing and giving them great joy. They want to share their experiences with more people through this retreat and to make a real, strong, positive change in this world we share.

The Mediterranean diet is renowned for being the healthiest diet in the world. Every day you’ll enjoy wholesome, abundant and delicious vegetarian and vegan Mediterranean/Portuguese/Indian cuisine with freshly picked organic vegetables of your choice! How to get there

Recommended Airports

BY BUS

From Faro, please check on the central station in Faro for a bus from Faro to Lagos. There is a bus available every half hour. From Lagos to Cercal and São Luis is only one bus a day available.

From Lisbon, the bus leaves next to the zoo in Lisbon and goes twice a day to Cercal or once a day directly to São Luis. The ticket costs 16 EUR if you above 30 years, 13 EUR for under 30 years old.

Driving direction

From Faro

  • 1. Get on the A22 to Lisboa/Portimão/Albufeira from the IC4 (15 minutes)
  • 2. Take the A2 following the signs to Lisboa/Messines (43 minutes)
  • 3. Take the exit 12 to merge onto IP2/N123 towards Ourique
  • 4. Take the N123 exit towards Odemira
  • 5. Take the M532 until you arrive in Lameiros
  • 6. Take a sharp right up the hill in Lameiros but not all the way up. Continue downhill onto the unpaved road for about 1 kilometer always keeping left until you see the Azula sign
  • 7. Azula's coordinate is 37° 44`34.67” N 8° 36`42.85” W

From Lisbon

  • 1. Take Av. Da Liberdade to R. Joaquim Antíio de Aguiar (6 minutes)
  • 2. Follow the A2 to IC1/N262 in Setúbal. Take the exit 10 from A2/E1 (1 hour 7 minutes)
  • 3. Follow the N120 until you see the São Luis sign, some meters before taking a left to the direction of Lameiros
  • 4. Continue for about 5 kilometers and take the left up the hill about 200 meters after the “Lameiros” sign and then keep right (don't go left again towards the café) downhill on the unpaved road for about 1 kilometer. Always keep on the left until you see the Azula sign 6. Azula's coordinate is 37° 44`34.67” N 8° 36`42.85” W.
