Join this yoga, qigong, and meditation retreat in a stunning retreat center nestled in the open hills of southern Spain. Days will include morning and afternoon sessions to choose from depending on your level and preferences. There will also be plenty of downtime for relaxing, walking the hills, swimming in a salt-water pool, therapies, and napping. Matthew and Mimi will offer teachings that reflect aspects of the heart’s function, as well as its relation to the season of summer and the element of fire.

Centro Santillán

Centro Santillán is a secluded, Andalusian paradise that is surrounded by mountains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Located in Rincon de la Victoria, it is 20 kilometers from Malaga, the capital of Spain’s Costa del Sol.

​The spacious and beautifully decorated Spanish rooms at Santillán accommodate single, double, and triple occupancy. You will be matched with roommates if you are coming by yourself and would like a double or triple room.

All rooms include a bathtub and shower, toiletries, hair dryer, and air conditioner or fan. There are telephones for internal use, a safe deposit box, and a desk. Each room has a balcony or patio with sea, garden, or mountain views.

As these seven days are about meeting your personal retreat needs and practicing svadhyaya (self-study), all activities are optional.

Mornings

Days will begin with a light breakfast followed by gentle qigong, pranayama, and meditation inside Santillán's stunning, state-of-the-art studio with views of palm trees and the clear, Mediterranean waters. After a full breakfast, there will be a long morning session including a dharma talk and active practice of yoga, qigong or a combination of both. There will be options given for all levels of practitioners.

Afternoons

After a nourishing lunch, there will be free time to nap, book therapies, sit in the salt-water pool, chill out on a sun bed, play paddle tennis, or take a taxi to the beach, which is just seven kilometers away. The afternoon yoga sessions will be gentle, relaxing, and quiet.

Evenings

After dinner, there will be an evening meditation session to close the day.

Visit the surroundings

Mid-week, there will be a half-day off. Participants are welcome to rest or visit the historic city of Granada and visit the sacred Alhambra, a Unesco World Heritage site.

The retreat includes an afternoon excursion to a nearby village where you will enjoy a seaside lunch of grilled fish and vegetables. The restaurant is right on the beach, so stunning views of the Mediterranean sea will accompany you while you enjoy the food.

  • Mimi Kuo-Deemer

    Mimi has been a student of yoga since 1995. She teaches a breath and alignment-based vinyasa Yoga that is cross-pollinated with aspects of Daoist and Buddhist teachings. In 2002, Mimi co-founded Yoga Yard, Beijing’s first and leading yoga studio, which she co-directed for seven years. She now teaches classes, workshops, and retreats. She is the author of the DVD Vinyasa Yoga: A Steady Mindful Practice, a contributor on movementformodernlife.com and on triyoga’s yoga teacher training faculty. She is a faculty member on triyoga's teacher training and a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher.

  • Matthew Cohen

    Matthew has a love for the healing practices of yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi, martial arts, Buddhist meditation, and Chinese medicine. He used to teach Mimi Kuo-Deemer's yoga studio in Beijing. He is also passionate about storytelling, a good laugh, and introspection. He aspires to teach safe, sacred, inspiring, and transformative practices that are accessible and open to everyone.

This retreat will take place near Malaga, Spain. Malaga is the capital of Spain’s Costa del Sol and has an international airport with many direct flights from London, New York City, Frankfurt, Madrid, and Paris.

The meals at Santillán are lovingly prepared and are influenced by the Spanish and Italian cuisines. Tea, coffee, and still water are available 24 hours a day. Complimentary soft drinks, beer, and wine are available on the first and last day. At all other times, beverages can be purchased at the bar and paid on check-out. Common dietary requirements will be honored.

Visit to Granada

Mid-week, there will be a half-day off, during which you can visit the historic city of Granada and the sacred Alhambra, a Unesco World Heritage site. Tickets must be booked far in advance for this. You will be asked upon booking as to whether or not you would like to join on this excursion. Please note, the cost of entry ticket and shared luxury coach, approximately 15 EUR for the ticket and 20 EUR for the bus per person, is not included in the retreat costs.
