Holistic Yoga Teacher Training Malta

A teacher training created by you, the student. Mentally, emotionally, and physically, you will unpack what holds you back from growing forward. Michelle Bartolo has been practicing yoga for 21 years and guiding classes for 17 years now. Her dedication to her self-practice has made her teaching life rich with encounters from students and teachers that ride on the same wave, whether they’re just beginning or are further along on their journey. Michelle Bartolo Yoga’s semi-private (maximum eight students) 200-hour KriyaAsana Teacher Training course provides you with in-depth training to connect to the teacher in you while releasing blockages and baggage in the body that you’ve carried around for years. Through this union, you will dive into self-discovery with soul, heart, and play where you’ll find your inner mystic and then share that with others that come for your message.

Michelle has teamed up with Tal Fanal Village which is a short distance (two kilometers) away from where the training will happen. Bicycle rentals can be arranged for an additional fee for those interested (approximately 15 minutes ride each way). Walking would take 25 minutes each way. Car rides to and from can be arranged for an additional fee of 30 EUR/week. There are also BOLT taxis on Gozo which are similar to UBER. Set in the heart of the beautiful countryside, Villagg Tal Fanal is a great rustic retreat.

Apartments are quintessentially Gozitan, featuring stone arches, wooden beams and decorated in a traditional style. With a swimming pool on-site that is surrounded by peaceful gardens, a small mini-market a short stroll away, and the capital Victoria just five minutes away by car; this is a great choice for those looking to escape away from it all on the island of Gozo, thanks to the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.

The complex consists of 26 maisonettes ranging from one to four bedrooms. Villagg Tal-Fanal is five minutes away by car from the capital city Victoria. There is a small well-stocked mini-market within walking distance from the village. There are 26 houses in all (with one, two, three, or four bedrooms), each having a well-equipped kitchen (ideal for self-catering holidays) and a comfortable living room.

All the two bed-roomed houses have a large terrace on the ground or first-floor level. A large swimming pool and sunbeds are at the disposal of the residents. The village is adorned with plants, and there is an atmosphere of complete relaxation and tranquility. All residents may park their cars in a large underground car park situated beneath part of the village itself.

Weekly maid service including change of linen and towels is offered free of charge. Apartments have coin-operated air conditioning units in bedrooms for both cold air and heat. The air conditioning units are operated using 1 EUR and 2 EUR coins.

Program

MBY will lead you into your own self-practice through her teacher training which is where your authentic voice will shine through to bring you all the students who need what you are practicing. The course is designed around what you want to work on in mind, body, and spirit - each student sends a description of this a few weeks before the course starts. From there, the course is designed to meet those needs. The students, therefore, design the training each training is different. MBY’s teacher training will teach you more than how to teach yoga.

With a strong intention on personal improvement, psychological flexibility, opening up to allow energy to move through you this course is designed not only to provide students with tools to share the wisdom of yoga with others, yet also to look at their own lives from a spiritual perspective. Each training holds unique energy, created from like-minded souls. As you train and embody this approach, you will open up to the wisdom and the teacher that is already within you. You dance, you chant, you sing.

You will find community with like-minded people and embrace the stillness within yourself. You call on your intuition for the answers and you will speak from spirit to spirit. You will dive deep into the experience, free from unnecessary distractions, and allow your authentic connection to emerge. Each day carries an intention, a spiritual lesson of the day, that we each set for ourselves along with the efforts that need to be made to achieve it. You will begin each class with a meditation, followed by a 90-minute kriyaasana practice.

Then, you will dip into learning yogic theory, yogic practice, and healing through group discussions. During this time, you will cover the fundamentals of yogic living, including yogic diet, anatomy, meditation, cleansing practices, pranayama, Ayurveda, and sharing all the things in your lives you’d no longer like to carry around. The trainings also open up to include other methods of healing, calling on not just the physical and mental elements but also the more subtle forms such as energy healing. Michelle Bartolo Yoga will share the Art of Teaching and the Art of Touch, during which students learn to teach a segment of a class in every class you share.

They will include Kundalini Kriyas to unravel any blockages in your roots so your serpent energy can rise; a Slow Flow which is a slow, meditative, practice followed by Vinyasa Flow, a more intense, breath-synchronized flow. You will also share the fundamentals of intelligent sequencing and explore the alignment and adjustment of poses in depth. Each class will end with meditation and kirtan (chanting).

Retreat location

The training will be held in a 350-year-old farmhouse that is full of charm. There aren't many homes left like this one on the island. It is shaped like a riad with an indoor courtyard, traditional Maltese tiles, and lots of trees and plants. The yoga studio is painted all white and has arches making the room feel more round than square with windows out to the garden and views of fields. The space is also very quiet. From the garden, you can see Sicily on a clear day if you sit in our gazebo facing the sea, it’s a stunning view!

The garden area has all sorts of trees that are 40 years old so there is also plenty of shade when needed. There is also a beautiful large pool area with deck chairs and hammocks. You will have your lunches in the garden weather permitting. There is also a lovely flat rooftop for the classes weather permitting which has a great view of fields leading to the sea. You can breathe freely. The neighborhood is friendly with local farmers and families that have lived there for over 30 years.

Everyone is incredibly supportive and friendly and it is also very safe. The retreat location is blessed to be just a two-minute walk from many trails walks leading you into the farmers' fields, to a beautiful stone window over the sea, a quaint chapel in the middle of the farmers’ fields, and stunning views. The best part is these walks are very quiet as they rarely see anyone out there! Nearby you can find a masseuse, a grocery shop, post office, pharmacy, bus stops, and hikes.
