Participants will be accommodated in a beautiful and clean hostel with a garden. All the rooms have bunk beds and of a quadruple occupancy.


During this retreat, each participant will spend around 10 hours helping children from underprivileged families, working with Tanzanian women and engaging in other Karma yoga activities to support local communities: painting the walls of a local school, cooking, photography, visiting local families, animal rescue, etc.

Sample itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrival to the retreat center
  • 13:00 - 15:00 Welcome ceremony and welcome lunch
  • Orientation, Q&A, short meditation, and relaxing Yin yoga

Day 2 to 6


Each morning starts with meditation and a gentle morning flow yoga class. Rich and delicious breakfast will offer organically sourced veggies, fruits, nest-run eggs, yoghurt and pastries. Rice can be served for participant on gluten free or vegan diet.

Example of a Karma yoga experience: after breakfast, you will take a 20-minute meditative walk through the local area called Mianzini to the local pre-school. During your walk, you will observe the local life, small market, and the bustling local streets. %Upon arrival, you will work with some of the most amazing kids on the planet. You can play with them, color mandalas, tell them stories, teach them English, Maths, and yoga. Other Karma yoga activities: women empowerment, animal rescue, etc.


After the Karma yoga time, you will return to the retreat center, have tasty healthy lunch, enjoy a short siesta, and then gather for an afternoon program: Yin and Restorative yoga, meditation, Dharma talk, psychology, creative art therapy, etc.


Most evenings are free from activities and reserved for rest, self-reflection, journaling, and exploration of the local life.

Day 4 (reserved for a trip to Maasai village)

A colorful experience of authentic Maasai life with singing, dancing, Maasai food, and learning about their unique and fascinating culture and traditions. The departure is planned after morning yoga session and breakfast. The trip is offered for a small extra fee. Those who decide not to join, can have a regular Karma yoga session.

Day 7

You will have a morning yoga, meditation, breakfast, and a closing ceremony. After the retreat, days 8 to 12 are open to safari adventures, hiking, and mountain climbing (Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru).

Please notice: the above schedule may be slightly adjusted to fit the needs of the retreat participants on a given day. Participants also need to be open-minded and flexible as the way people live and work in Tanzania may be very different from your home countries, so it is important to keep that in mind, especially regarding such things as punctuality, accountability, etc.

About half a million people live in Arusha. Most of them belong to the Waarusha, Wameru, and Maasai ethnicity. Although the town is smaller than Dar es Salaam, you have access to almost everything you need, like shops, ATMs, and restaurants with a variety of cuisines (ltalian, French, Indian, Chinese, Tanzanian, etc.)

Arusha is world famous for its wonderful nature: Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, the Lake Manyara, Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro.

In your free time, you can visit the local craft market (also known as “Maasai Market“), hang out at a swimming pool, walk around town, visit other local markets to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables (and with a couple of Swahili words, bargain for them - a must in Tanzania!).

You can also join a cultural tour to visit different tribes and explore their rich and fascinating culture, traditions, mysticism, and everyday life.

Expect delicious breakfast and even more delicious lunch of Tanzanian as well as Western food. Don‘t worry if you are vegetarian, vegan, plant based or have any allergies – just inform Metta Pilgrims in advance to make sure they will meet your dietary needs.

Why dinner is not included: to avoid monotony, Metta Pilgrims inspire the participants to explore other dining options and enjoy the huge variety of local street food and restaurants.
