Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga Netherlands Retreat

Mindfulness meditation is a special technique in which you will learn a basic posture of letting go, patience, acceptation, and mildness. This presents a paradox: something changes without the goal that something needs to be changed. A part of the physical and mental pain which you experience exists due to the thoughts you have about it. In this course, you will learn to be in the present and to accept thoughts and feelings without judgments. Yoga exercises support this process. Learn how to combine yoga and mindfulness meditation, and you can continue this meditation form at home.

Yoga and mindfulness

Through yoga classes, you will connect yoga with mindfulness meditation exercises. Mindfulness meditation will allow you to focus your attention on one thing and make all other thoughts, such as work and other matters, get sidetracked. Your attention is fully focused on the movement. As a result, you can relax.

The exercises are slow and typically performed in silence. Your attention is fully focused on the exercise. Sometimes, the exercises are combined with the body scan (a relaxation from head to toe) or a guided fantasy. The most important thing is to always relax and focus your attention. All muscles will be affected so you will experience your body relaxed after an hour. For your mind, you will have a sense of calm and peace. It makes you experience the day, leave everything that has happened behind, and go to a deep relaxing sleep at night.


During this retreat, you will get to know the different sides of mindfulness meditation which will be preceded by Hatha yoga exercises. You will also have some sessions of body relaxation or body scan, guided fantasy, and mindfulness meditation. After class, you can share your experiences with other students in a safe and pleasant atmosphere.

First day

Philip van der Linde
Philip is a yoga and mindfulness meditation teacher since 1988. He has a great deal of experience in teaching Hatha yoga, yoga therapy, and meditation classes in the Netherlands. He received a diploma in yoga teacher training in Scheveningen, a diploma in meditation teacher training at Osmosis, and has joined an 8-week mindfulness training (MBSR).

Retreat location

You will be staying at Fontana Resort Bad Nieuweschans in Netherlands. Its wellness center is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate yourself. Fontana Resort Bad Nieuweschans provides a pleasant atmosphere where you can learn a new basic attitude in life, gain many experiences, get inspired, move, and gain insight into yourself. Wellness, meditation, and yoga are a perfect combination to be practiced at this resort.


Waters of the World restaurant serves an extensive breakfast buffet in the morning which uses regional products. Lunch and dinner are also served in the restaurant (clothing required). Coffee and tea break will also be provided.

Spa treatments

Thermal bath

The thermal water does not only relax body and mind. It also has a beneficial effect on the health. During the bathing process, the body warms up. This causes the blood-vessels to widen, the blood-pressure to drop, the heartbeat to accelerate, and the absorption of oxygen to increase. Owing to this, the body loses extra waste matters. Besides that, all the minerals in the water have their own specific effect on the body. The high grade of salt strengthens the upward pressure and makes the body almost float in the water. This effect relieves the muscles and the joints.

Advice: bathing too long and too often makes the minerals work too intensive. Please bathe no longer than 30 minutes and do not move intensively during the bathing. Afterwards, it is advisable to rest in the relaxation room and to take another bath after at least 5 hours.

Steam and thermal spa

In the steam and thermal water spa, you can enjoy the benefits of warm steam coupled with the soothing effects of thermal heated water flowing over your shoulders. Delicious fragrances are added to the steam which is alternated daily and matched with the seasons. In addition to its relaxing qualities, the steam spa is particularly beneficial for the respiratory system and the skin. The steam spa has a 100% humidity level at a temperature of approximately 47 degree Celsius.


The fluctuations of the temperature on the sauna stimulate the blood-circulation. In consequence of this, your body loses waste matters and your skin is cleansed. The warmth of the sauna square relieves the pain in your muscles and joints and frequent sauna visits increase your resistance and energy level.

Advice: to optimize results and in connection with hygiene, a visit to the sauna should be undressed. The fluctuation of the temperature during a round has a very relaxing effect and gives a feeling of well-being. Do not forget the basic rule of the sauna which is “heat up first, than cool down and relax for a while”.
