Maureen Quinn invites you to join in Costa Rica for a week of inner exploration and outer adventure. This is a place where you can nurture your body, mind, and soul to revitalize the balance and joyful living. You can also experience “pura vida” (the pure life) of the beautiful land of Costa Rica.
The Ripjack Inn is a boutique hotel located 75 meters from the beach. There is a path from the hotel to the beach. The Inn has Wi‐Fi, 21 guest rooms. All of the rooms have coffee makers, a safe deposit box, and the electricity with the voltage that is the same as in the US.
TheRipjack Inn has six standard rooms that are located in the main building with a small patio and hammock hanging out front, great to lounge around in. The rooms have one queen size bed, one single bed, and completely remodeled bathroom. Each room has air-conditioning, ceiling fans, hot water, private baths, coffee maker, in-room safe, daily housekeeping, and toiletries.
TheRipjack Inn has 12 deluxe rooms throughout the property. You can choose from one king size bed, two double beds or one queen, and single bed. Deluxe rooms offer more space and finer amenities than basic standard rooms. It is great for couples or families traveling with children. Each room has a 32-inch flat screen television with cable, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, hot water, private baths, coffee maker, in-room safe, daily housekeeping, and toiletries.
There are two yoga classes daily. There is one class on the day of the half-day trip, and no classes on the day of the full-day trip. You have the chance to trek to volcanic craters and secluded waterfalls, and take a canopy tour on the full-day trip to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Sunset sail or snorkeling will be set off in the early afternoon on a beautiful catamaran into the deep blue sea. Enjoy exploring secluded beaches, islands, and coves, and snorkeling in some of the best spots around will give you a wonderful half-day trip.
Yoga brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve peacefulness of body, mind, and spirit, helping you to release tension and pain and manage stress and anxiety. A consistent yoga practice allows you a glimpse of the healthy, joyful, and free person you can be. This sense of health, freedom, and joy is your true nature. Yoga helps you to remove the obstacles that obscure the true nature.
Through yoga, it is possible to find strength, confidence, presence, and discipline to change your lives for the better. Yoga poses break down the psychological, emotional, physical, energetic, and psychic blocks that inhibit you from thriving. Yoga teaches you to be mindful and deliberate, to set intentions, and to surrender.
A consistent yoga practice offers clarity, presence, peace, trust, pain relief, stress relief, better breathing, flexibility, balance, strength, weight management, improved circulation, better body alignment, and a quiet mind.
Maureen Elise Quinn
Maureen Elise Quinn, M.Ed., RYT, CST, a certified CranioSacral therapist and yoga instructor, has held a life-long interest in the mind, body, spirit connection, and holistic health. She found that yoga helped to reduce stress, made her stronger, more grounded, more at peace, and her mind was more clear. Due to the impact that yoga had in Maureen's life, she wanted to share it with others through teaching. Maureen is also a watercolor artist, which she considers another form of healing art.
Lauri Deary is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga school (RYS).
Playa Grande is a small town on a large beach located on the Pacific side of the province of Guanacaste, on the northern peninsula of Costa Rica. The capital of Guanacaste is the city of Liberia. This is where the closest airport, Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR), is located. The beach is pristine and sparsely populated. It is known as a good surfing beach. Tamarindo, a large touristy town, is a 20-minutes cab ride away, and this is a good place for shopping.

Daily breakfast is included at the RipJack Inn hotel. It will follow after the morning yoga session. Dinner is included on Saturday (the day you arrive) and Friday (the last full day of the retreat). Lunch is included on the two days taking trips.
The lunch and dinner meals that are not included in the price of the retreat can be purchased at the hotel restaurant or at other local restaurants. Lunch for five days is about 10 USD per day plus gratuities and dinner for five days is from 10 to 20 USD per day plus gratuities, depending on where you eat.
There are two or three other boutique hotels with restaurants within a few minutes walking distance of the RipJack Inn. All the hotel restaurants serve good quality food, and the other restaurants are less expensive than the RipJack Inn. There are also more restaurants that are within a bit longer walking distance, and yet more restaurants accessible by cab. The local hotel restaurants serve delicious fresh juice drinks and smoothies as well.
Set off in the early afternoon on a beautiful catamaran into the deep blue sea. Spend the day sailing, snorkeling, eating, and drinking aboard some of the best boats in the Pacific. Explore secluded beaches, islands, and coves and snorkel in some of the best spots around.
Equipment is provided and you will have the opportunity to spot colorful fish, turtles, octopus, coral reef, and much more. On the way back, enjoy the sound of live music as you watch the sun sink slowly into the horizon, definitely the best seat in town. Food and drink are provided.
Strap yourself in and sail through the treetops on a canopy zip lining tour. See the beach, waterfalls, and local flora and fauna as you are moving from tree to tree. With 23 platforms and tưo suspension bridges to get you adrenaline pumping, you can see the Costa Rican jungle like never before. These excursions are all day, so pack sunscreen, hats, and the appropriate apparel.
Climb aboard a local fisherman’s boat and spend a few hours floating down the Playa Grande estuary. Listen for the howler monkeys in the trees and keep an eye out for caiman floating in the Rio Mata Palo. If you want to explore on your own, you should rent a kayak and be adventurous.
Saddle up and giddy up. See the beautiful terrain of Playa Grande and the adjacent area with a horseback tour. The Ripjack Inn is happy to book daytime and sunset rides along their neighboring beach Playa Brasalito. Playa Grande beachfront is a protected zone for the Leatherback Turtles, so no horses allowed.
Playa Grande is just a short drive to some of the best hiking in all of Costa Rica. Adventurers can pack up their car for the day and make their way to Rincon de la Vieja or Tenorio National Parks. Trek to volcanic craters and secluded waterfalls. If you prefer, the Ripjack Inn can provide a driver and a guide. Parks are closed on Mondays.
This is a charter with the most experienced captains on the coast. You can choose from either a full or half day sport fishing charter out in the open Pacific. Troll for sailfish, yellow fin tuna, dorado, snapper, and more. Playa Grande visitors must drive to Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo to catch the boats.
Guided surf trip is in Avellanas, Marbella, Playa Negra, Little Hawaii, secret spots and based on availability.
There is private guided surf trip for three to 45 people with five-hour guided surf trip (five hours from pick up time to return time with two to three hours of surf time depending on destination). It will depend on what the waves are doing (swell and wind, etc.) as to where you are taken. The furthest point away is Marbella and it takes a little over an hour to get there. With this time frame, you are looking at almost three hours of water time.
Surf trip includes door to door transportation, surf guide to help you maximize your wave count, cooler with ice, water, juice, fresh pineapple, and a beer each. Moreover, they also has spare wax, spare leashes, spare fins in case you break your own.
Playa Grande is famous its leatherback turtles. Visitors from all over the world come to witness these 800 pounds creatures coming ashore and laying their eggs. You can take guided tours to see the turtle hatchlings make their way towards the Pacific. Turtle season officially spans October 15 through February 15, though turtles can be spotted all year long off the coast.
Experienced surfers can hop aboard a chartered boat for a surf adventure like none other. Accessible by boat only, Witch’s rock enjoys endless offshore winds and fast barrels. Ollie’s point is a right point-break with rides that seem to last forever. The staff at Ripjack Inn is happy to book you a day or overnight charter so you and your buddies can catch epic surf.
After a long day of play, or months of buildup from work stress, treat yourself to one of the best massages you have ever had. The masseuse’s area can accommodate a variety of needs. Whether you need gentle hands to work out daily stress or an intense sports massage, local masseuses are sure to make you feel your best.
