During the retreat, you will be staying at Samahita Retreat. Samahita Retreat has been a pioneer in healthy programming for the body, breath and mind for almost 15 years. It is known as one of the most authentic yoga teaching locations worldwide while introducing a balance of practices and activities for both body and mind, including meditation, pranayama, and breathwork as well as full cardio and core strength fitness routines.

Formerly known as “Yoga Thailand”, this lifestyle retreat center features a variety of guest room options, Wi-Fi across the property, four dedicated yoga shalas, an indoor cycle studio at the beach, an open-air fitness and barre sea-view loft, a detox and wellness center, eco-lifestyle boutique, juice and coffee bar, drinking water stations, and the celebrated buffet-style health-food restaurant, Sattva Dining.

All rooms are set back from the main retreat, perfect for quiet contemplation and relaxation. The eco-friendly buildings make use of cross ventilation, natural lighting, rainwater harvesting, and solar power. There are rooms for couples and singles, as well as loft-style accommodations that are ideal for families or two people sharing.

Regardless of which room you stay in, the yoga shala, restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, and beach are only one minute away. You can see the ocean from some of the balconies in the top level rooms, but they cannot guarantee sea views.

The air conditioner is provided for your comfort, but please use as needed. You are encouraged the use of the fans and open breeze as much as possible to be conscious of the environment. Wi-Fi, refrigerator, hot water kettle, and writing desk are available in your room. Natural non-bleach cotton sheets and towels, personal locker drawer, and hair dryer will also be provided.

The eco-friendly design of the rooms includes energy-saving magnetic key card, low energy appliances, low-flush water-saving toilet and bathroom fixtures, mosquito screens for cross ventilation, photo sensor light switches, rainwater harvesting, solar-powered hot water, and structured brick-work that minimizes both energy and sound loss.

Private room

The private room has approximately 35 square meters of personal space, which includes a private balcony. The room has a queen size bed with individual reading lamps and personal built-in shelf space at the headboard. It has a fully equipped bathroom with large shower area and room for clothes hanging and drying.

The room also includes a large writing desk, bookshelves, storage cabinet that can be locked, hot water kettle, medium size fridge, built-in wardrobe with sufficient space for luggage, ceiling fans, and air conditioning.

Semi-private room

The semi-private room is suitable for two people sharing. You can enjoy approximately 25 square meters of personal space, including a private balcony. The room features include a queen size bed with individual reading lamps, writing desk, bookshelves, lockable storage cabinet, hot-water kettle, medium size fridge, built-in wardrobe, ceiling fans, and air conditioning.

The bedroom section of these rooms is private and includes a dedicated entrance, as well as direct access to a fully furnished bathroom, which is shared between two rooms. The reservations team will arrange the bookings, so guests of the same sex are in these room types unless guests are friends and request otherwise.

Shared two-bedroom loft

The shared two-bedroom loft has approximately 50 square meters of personal space which includes a private balcony. The room is split-level with a loft. Each bedroom has its own private space. There is a fully equipped bathroom shared by both bedrooms. Some of these rooms are equipped with an outdoor rain shower. Each bedroom has a queen size bed with individual reading lamps and a personal built-in shelf space at the headboard.

The room also includes a large writing desk, bookshelves, storage cabinet that can be locked, hot water kettle, medium size refrigerator, two wardrobes with sufficient space for luggage, two ceiling fans, and air conditioning. Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Alliance. Registration with Yoga Alliance provides a globally recognized credential.

Continuing education

For Yoga Alliance registered yoga teachers, this program is eligible for 75 hours of continuing education. Continuing education is required to maintain your status as a registered yoga teacher.

Extra hours

The on-site training will consist of 65 contact hours. Students will be required to complete at least 10 additional hours of post-training, self-study (as per further instructions), and read the required reading material. Students are expected to dedicate additional hours during the training to prepare for practice teaching and the final exam.

Marije E. Paternotte was born and raised in Amsterdam, where she studied law and worked as a corporate lawyer. After joining a yoga retreat in Bali, life led her to the United States, where she took her first yoga teacher training. She currently lives in New Jersey, teaches yoga locally, as well as workshops and retreats around the world. She encourages her students to find their own yoga and to practice mindfulness in everything they do, thus cultivating nonjudgmental self-observation that leads to inner peace, genuine happiness, and the discovery of who they truly are.

Retreat location

This yoga teacher training will take place in Samahita Retreat in Koh Samui, Thailand. Samahita Retreat is set away from the busy tourist areas, chosen for its proximity to Koh Samui’s important cultural and historical landmark, Laem Sor Pagoda.

Samahita Retreat lies on the south coast of Koh Samui, a tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand that still has long stretches of pristine beaches and unspoiled land. Situated on Laem Sor beach, Samahita Retreat is surrounded by towering coconut trees in a quiet, spacious area, with incredible sunrises and sunsets that play with the colors of the water, sand, and tropical fauna. The main shopping areas are still within easy reach, about 15 to 30 minutes away by car or motorbike.

How to get there

Driving directions from Koh Samui ring road

  • From the Koh Samui ring road 4169, take road 4173 at the Namuang waterfall intersection.
  • Follow the road for three kilometers until the four-way intersection at Ban Thale.
  • Turn right onto road 4170 towards Laem Sor Pagoda or Thong Krut.
  • Continue for approximately one kilometer, then turn left where you see signs for Mor Din restaurant, Easy Time Resort, and Samahita Retreat (fawn colored back-light sign).
  • After 700 meters, you will arrive at the end of the road on the beach and the location of Samahita Retreat.
  • The reception is right on the beach while the guest accommodations are opposite the beach.
