All yoga classes are for all levels of students and the instructor encourages all those on the retreat to enjoy the time away to explore their true potential in a safe and nurturing environment. There will be ample free time to discover the island, the beautiful Indian Ocean markets, and the island’s blend of French, Indian, Chinese, Creole culture, and cuisine. Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with average temperatures for May in the mid to late 20’s maximum. and a minimum in the high teens.
All ages are welcome as participants.
Iyengar yoga uses asanas or yoga postures as its basis for individual development, to restore natural flexibility to stiff backs, necks and limbs. The emphasis is placed on balancing the dynamic forces within the body through close observation of physical alignment, spinal extension and breath. Asanas are used to tune the mind to be receptive to messages the body is sending. The practice of asanas has a beneficial impact on the whole body. Asanas not only tone the muscles, tissues, ligaments, joints, and a nerves, but also maintain the smooth function and health of all the body’s systems. They relax the body and mind, allowing both to recover from fatigue or weakness, and the stress of daily life. Through cultivation of the senses and reflections on actions within the context of asanas, a better understanding of our whole being is created so that we learn from and about ourselves.
Yoga found Shane way back in 1982. He never realised that his first class would take him on a life long journey of self discovery! Shane was fortunate to have two teachers that nurtured and developed his keen interest on the subject of Iyengar yoga. This encouragement inspired him to start his daily practice. This journey was soon to put Shane on a collision course to meet a man by the name of John leebold. John had already established the W.A School of Yoga back in 1986 and would later become Shane’s mentor for many years to come.
Shane resided in India for a 5-month period in 1987. This was to be an amazing yogic experience and a total immersion into the Indian culture. On his return to Margaret River, Shane began teaching classes in Iyengar yoga and this was to carry on for several years. In 1994, Shane passed his introductory level 1 course and currently now holds his junior intermediate level 2 in yoga teaching. Shane holds daily classes, regional workshops and overseas retreats. Shane continues to travel to India every few years to continue his study with the Iyengar family. He also attends workshops, and national conventions with other senior practitioners around Australia.
Your accommodation is ideally situated in the Northwest of the Island, Grand Baie is approximately a two-hour drive from the international airport. The north of the island provides fine beaches, a great range of restaurants, world class water sports, and wonderful shopping.
